View Full Version : Torn Between Career Choices...

Hey Guys,
I have been a fan of the Warhammer franchise and currently own a High Elf 3500 point army. Up until today I wanted to be a High Elf come launch, especially a Shadow Warrior. But for some reason I took a look at the dwarf careers today and I was instantly hooked on the Engineer. Unfortunantly after researching this character class I no longer have my beloved High Elves as my first choice.
I was wondering what you all think about having an Engineer as a main instead of an Alt. I have played WOW and SWG and absolutely hate playing the over populated class which I fear may be the Shadow Warrior career path. I kind of enjoy playing as the under dog.
What this comes down to is I was hoping to get some input from you guys regarding what you have seen from footage of the Engineer class and if they are worth playing instead of becoming weak, old, repetative come end game.
Thanks for putting up with my post and I apologize if I made any typing mistakes because I am typing this on my iPhone.
Thanks!

Hey Guys,
Now that I have read my post I realize that it is difficult to determine exactly how the gameplay will be with the Engineer career choice without being able to play the game so if anything; any input regarding my post would be great.
My apologies!

As both of the classes you picked were ranged dps that use nonmagical dmg (for the most part), I'd say picking engineer over shadow warrior was one that I don't think you'd regret.
The main difference between the two classes would be their dps beyond ranged dps. The shadow warrior is supposedly less weak in melee combat, and the engineers get a bag full of tricks. Personally, I'd choose engineer because the bag full of tricks will probably result in attack patterns and strategic differences between what a shadow warrior would generate.
All in all, I'd say it's a safe bet. They're both the same archetype, so your overall satisfaction with the class should be just fine. Also, engineer will 99% most likely be less played than shadow warrior, as many people don't find dwarves appealing.

What exactly would you like to know?
We shoot things, throw nades, plant bombs, set up turrets, smack people with hammers/spanners. We can talk more about it if you want to know something in particular, otherwise the engy is a pretty big topic to just tell you about.

btw, ability list. It's kinda old, peiced together from wrtieups, gamesday footage, that sort of thing. But this should give you an idea as to what we have at our disposal.

Thanks Biocide & Drakehouston,
Thanks for linking the abilities website and giving me feedback about choosing a class.
I've been getting really excited over WAR for months now and I can't wait for it to come out.
If anyone knows of any good websites tailored to Dwarves/Engineers I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again!

Don't use waaaghpedia. I only link there because those ability lists are made from a few lists I found. waaaghpedia is really dead :< but at least some of the crap i edited is convenient to link :)

Thanks again Draco, your the best!
This may seem like a stupid question but all Order races can be in the same guild correct? Your not restricted to being in an all dwarf guild because of the lore right? Maybe not.
And also like the Or a get larger when they level up, what happens to dwarves?
Thanks again.

Yes, high elfs, dwarfs and empire are all allied and can be in the same guild or group.

I think it would be cool to get a group of dwarves together through Warhammer Alliance prior to launch to be on the same server and be closely knit right from the start.
What do you think?
Maybe a starter Guild too.

Here are some old PvE videos taken from Beta. I wouldn't judge the class solely on this footage since things are likely to change and no doubt will be more polished upon release, but you get an idea of the importance of the gun and the turret looks cool. All in all, I'd say this career looks like a lot of fun.

I've seen some RvR (PvP if you didn't know) footage of the Engineer and it looked like a complete blast, but that was part of a much longer video and I can't remember where I saw it now, sorry :p
Hope you enjoy Tanaus
