View Full Version : I think the choppa will have higher straight DPS than marauder
But I think this is a good thing. Why? I think the marauder class will be more dynamic (thanks to mutations) and yes, harder to play. Ill take utility and more diverse abilities over "damage and damage"any day. Discuss

The choppa does one thing. Chops.
The Marauder can do *at least* 3 things.
Slice with Axe/Sword Arm.
Rip with Claw Arm.
Or Smash with Mace Arm.
Each does something different.

I kinda think the Marauder will have higher straight up dps, the Choppa will have more defense though.

In a not so recent podcast, so I dont know how valid it is marauders where said to be verry easy to pick up and do less dammage than other mele dps classes.

In a podcast? Uhhh... no. First of all, watched all the podcasts several times, and I woulda remembered that. Second, a dev would never say that one class was weaker unless it was something like "The Marauder wasn't performing up to par with the other melee dps classes, so we tweaked their damage". And even if they did say it was weaker, it woulda been edited out by marketing.

As far as I can see, the Choppa will do high damage on ranged (and the Archmage), low damage on tanks (and Warrior-Priests), and medium damage on Melee DPS (and Rune Priests). The same can be said about the Witch Elf, Hammerer, and Witch Hunter. The Marauder, however, imo, will be much more balanced (as long as he has the proper mutation to take on his opponent, such as the claw for a tank) and will do medium damage to all opponents. If this is true, then the Choppa may do more damage than the Marauder aginst light-armored targets, but the Marauder will do better damage than the Choppa agienst tanks, which I think is a fair trade off.

I believe you read that in an article. It stated that they wanted classes like the marauder to be very simple to pick up. Others to require more attention like the sword master. Didnt state they did less damage. In fact if you watch the marauder they seem to do a hell of a lot of damage.

Yeah and how much crap has Paul spewed at us over the last year or so, and have it not come true. Paul is a funny guy, and i'm sure he is a great Creative Dev, but when he's talking to the community, his Ego makes checks his game can't cash.

You're very confused. A poster already has the right of it: in an old (and very outdated) magazine article, it was stated they were to be easy to pick up and play. This was the same article that stated mutations would be random (they're not now, hence the article is at least partially outdated). There was no mention of "lower damage."
The video we've seen of the Marauder has some of, if not the highest, damage output against test dummies that we've seen. But we've really only seen three classes beating on them and the Marauder was attacking from behind.
However, one of the three destruction MDPS (and one overall out of the six) will have the highest damage. Anybodies guess at this point, unless you're in beta of course. I doubt Marauder will have the highest overall due to being able to adapt to various situations. But then again, mutation requires you to sit completely still with a "KILL ME NOW" sign on you for several seconds. So they should be pretty powerful to compensate.

Poor Paul. They even made him dub over his Shadow Warrior video with the "real info" on the class. I like him a lot, I just wish he wouldn't overstate the case so often. It's hard to take when he's mostly the only info we get.

i think, with the right play style, all of the MDPS classes will have about the same overall possible dps. it all depends on how each are used and also on the situaution. IE none are better in every situation. or at least thats probly what they are going for.

This site (http://www.chaoswarhost.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=25), has some skills listed of the Marauders, inaccurate though ( No, I don't think this is NDA breaking, as the same site is posted at Magus forum without problems )
So I think the damage of Marauder is actually based on what mutation he is using.

My guess for highest MDPS (And highest DPS) class would be Witch Elf. I mean, come on, they are completely stripped down for mobility, have sacrificial daggers with poisons on them and...well...they tear things apart. For highest DPS of any class, you could argue, I suppose, that Sorcer(ess) could be the highest DPS when their head doesn't explode.
