View Full Version : Tome Of Knowledge Idea
Militarized

I had an idea for the tome of knowledge today, it's a little biased as i'm a Greenskin player but i'm sure equivalent ideas/rewards could be given to other races, but i'll get into explaining it.
So far we know if you kill, say, a thousand+ bears you get a title or something "Soandso the great bear slayer" and you get lore about the bear. That's as far as I know about the TOK giving you anything(obviously cooler creatures will look cooler) and there may some asthetic stuff right now as it is but I think, for say, with Goblins if they kill so many spiders they should be able trade their wolf mount for a spider mount like they are able to have in the table top. (I know the difference is regular gobbos and wood gobbos but still). I'm sure there could be equivalent rewards for other races and such but I thought it'd be a start at an idea to give even more variety to peoples mounts when they are put in the game.
Oh and I wouldn't expect something like this to be in the release. I could see it being in a future patch/update/expack.

Sounds cool, makes getting a title feel rewarding.

Id go for it but the thing is people will whine if goblins are the only class that has an option for a second mount. I think this is a really cool idea but I can just see the calls for nerf now.

Tome ideas go to the tome section...moved accordingly ;)
And also, corrected the thread name so it says tome and not tomb :D

Oh dear, thank you for correcting my spelling. lol. Well like I said it's just a preliminary idea and that's what I came up for Goblins. I'm sure, say, the High Elves could get a White Lion, DE's Cold Ones or possibly one of the beasts they used to use in their army book.
This wouldn't have to be just limited to mounts either. I could see an Empire soldier killing so many wolves or other possibly tameable creature and then getting one as, say a non-combat pet? Just have it be able to tag along in cities to show off while you're bored or something lol.

Ok ya that makes it a better idea i think. Instead of introducing a new mount and everyone going out and buying it you can fight monsters to get it. I think that would be really cool.

Haha, hooray. I'm sure other people could come up with other reward ideas too... though I think I do remember Paul or someone saying you could possibly get some items or trophies from Tome ranks but I don't know if that's true.

I think thats a cool idea accept it wouldn't neccesarily work out with the lore, I mean don't DE already get cold ones for mounts? Plus high elves didn't exactly ride the white lions. Also it would be pretty biased if only the goblins got the spider mount 'cause then you would get all the other people whining that they don't get a spider to ride plus all you would see is goblins out grinding to get thier spider mount because they don't like the wolf mount. Don't get me wrong I love the idea of getting extra rewards but I think it should not be racial.
An idea I had using the bear example is if you kill alot of bears the bears would become known of your existence and run away from you when you walk by, I know bears aren't humanoids and can't pass information like that but it could work with other humanoids like NPC's or something.

That could work quite well to. You expressed my fears that i said earlier that if goblins only get it its a whinefest and posted good thoughts on other classes being non accessible for more lore related classes.
I did like the enemies running from you. Maybe if you wear a trophy gathered from bears they smell the scent of there deceased comrads and act differently. Whether that be them running away or charging you it would be interesting.

Yeah maybe at one point when you kill a moderate amount of bears they charge you for killing their kin but when you keep on killing more of them then they fear your power and start running away from you.
I'm also thinking that you have friendly NPC's be interactive and say nice things as you walk by or you get discounts at certain stores. Say for example theres a quest where you have to retrieve a shop keepers lost goods, and it could be a repeatable quest because highwaymen keep attacking the caravans delivering his goods, and if you retreive the goods a certain amount of times you get a discount or if you kill a certain amount of bandits in that area you get a discount on items in that store too.

I"m gonna make your idea more general. Items with Title requirements. You have unlocked this title to wear or use this item. These items should look awesome but not be ANY better than standard items, but as an extra way of showing off certain titles. I like it.

I like the post, Militarized.
This makes me think of the first Conan movie where Conan escapes slavery and is chased by wolves into a secret lair. In the lair he finds the sword and comes back out with it. Next scene he has a full suit of wolf-hide!
Man, I love that part. Second only to punching the camel. I'm an animal lover and I still laugh out loud every time I see it.

There will be trophies and whatnot from the ToK.

One thing that I found interesting was a ToK unlock for snotligs. A few boxes up from the discovery (initial) box, there was one that said you were now +5% more effective at killing snotlings. Not a lot, but a nice bit of a bonus for spending the time.
That would be neat, individual rewards for certain races and careers. The recent Gamespy and IGN previews show that Mythic is really trying to emphasize the "cool factor" in the smallest of things. Giving players that ability to stand out and do their own thing, to me, is something that you really can't go wrong with. Make players work towards something, but make sure that they have something substantial to work towards (i.e. not an extra point of stamina).
