As some of you are aware a leitmotif is a melodic passage associated with a specific character, class etc. Witch Elves are a hard one because they are frenzied and their theme should reflect that without going off the chaotic deep end. I recently came across the work of John Psathas and he seemed to capture the spirit of the Maenad upon which WE are based:

The melody would obviously have to be stylistically different but the percussion and tempo is almost perfect for WE IMO.

Ooh, nice. I've never heard that music before; I quite like it. :)
As for it being a sort of theme for Witch Elves... I think I can see that. Particularly like the passage near the end (last 25 second or such, and it's at 20 seconds in too). And love the piano bit (though piano has always been a favorite instrument of mine ;) ).
Still, can't help but get the sense that there's something missing... can't quite put the finger on it. Maybe I'm just being difficult.
Maybe someone should put this behind the cinematic scene (the Witch Elf vs the Archmage fight) and see how it works. :p
Anyway, nice find.

I think it's a pretty good blend between dramatic and... I don't know how to describe it, light? Which suits Elves perfectly, but I think my only issue it sounds almost heroic. It sort of lacks an edge that suits Witch Elves.

Ah leitmotifs... Just wanted to tell I played Richard Wagner's opera Siegfried this summer. 4.25 hours (effective playing time) of pure leitmotifs from the master of leitmotifs...

That sounds fun but grueling, I suppose somebody has to do it :D! I will occasionally sing arias for a small audience though I generally don't go over the 1/2 hour mark. By that time my throat starts hurting :p...

I'm a professional musian IRL. I play the french horn... And earn good money doing it. But I gotta tell you, my lips where practically falling off after those 4.25 hours. Still I think its maybe the biggest musical experience in my professional life.
Richard Wagner FTW
P.S.
Female Ironbreaker look like Brynnhilde from the Valkyrie. I hope they can get a spear...

lol all qft
I actually think the DE music fits in with DE pretty well. Sort of frenzied while at the same time feeling a bit heroic which can also just be interpreted as warlike imho

About the clip, I agree that odd measures is the way to go. Apart from that I think it has too much a sense of both arabic and balcan to it, which in my opinion is far from the cold north the WE comes from.

Greek mythology inspired that music, so that's no surprise :). If a similar piece was written specifically for WE I would still use pentatonic scales etc. to evoke an 'exotic' feel even though the style would have to be different.

I definately wouldn't keep the tone language of this clip. The measure is interesting, but the tonal language is out of place. Save if for Cathay or that freeport. Tilea? I don't wan't to get images of arabia on my brain while playing the WE. Which I prob won't since its a Druchii spawn...

Since a leitmotif for an imaginary race has to draw upon RL musical traditions which RL tonal language(s) do you think would be most fitting for DE :)? Remember that Ulthuan is basically the Warhammer equivalent of Atlantis and that DE music would also share some elements with HE music because of their common origin.

Something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSKL5E3zSjs
Ok. Joking aside... ;)
Im not sure actually. But I might like some augmented chords in the leitmotif which contributes to a spacial and cold feeling and would like to keep the insane fiddling of the strings in the link! The fiddling gives the fast and manic feeling. Penta scales is ok, but i would prefer a wicked sense in it. Maybe even wholetone scales. Wouldn't mind some evil quartertones in strings in the background like the Exorcist.
Leitmotif?
Hehe, that's almost as funny as eigenvalue.
