So I've seen the concept art up and was wondering if we are gonna have to wear robes all the time. I wouldnt mind some pants.

My guess is there tier sets will all be robes. However, odd pieces here and there will be pants. Robes will however, be much more common place.

Well nearly every mage I have ever played (or seen) wears pants among other clothes beneath their outerwear ie robes.

Your absolutely correct. However, I think (correct me if I am wrong) the OP means pants and vest rather than just pants.

Oh right then in that context it would make sense. At the moment quite a few of our questions are impossible to answer. Like you mentioned I would imagine some outfit consisting of pants and maybe a surcoat or open/spilt bottom robe would make its way into the sorcerer's wardrobe.

Why would anyone put on pants if they did'nt have to. I'm not even wearing pants right now. Robes ftw I say. Let the mages have there freedom.

I can almost say with some semblance of certainty you will be wearing robes 100% of the time. Every class must be distinguishable from a distance, if one class could wear robes or 'pants' then it isn't instantly set apart from other classes. Besides whoever heard of a caster that didn't wear a robe? The only casters ever to not wear robes are hybrids, things like bards, skalds, thanes etc.
Casters wear robes of some description, no-one knows why, they just do. Besides all Sorcs in Warhammer wear a robe of some sort, it just wouldn't look right without one.
That's my prediction anyway.

Robes are worn to show which magical organisation you are a part of. Bright Wizards are scholars from the Bright College, Archmages are from the White Tower of Hoeth and Sorcerers and Sorceresses are part of this thing Paul Barnett has been called the Dark Covenant, which I assume is a sect of the Six Convents of Sorceresses which accepts male Sorcerers within their ranks.
They're kind of like academics or priests who traditionally used to wear robes. It adds a ceremonious touch to their spellcasting.
EDIT: Changed to "Covenant". What the hell's a "Convenant"? Doh.

Robes are great fun. You see, what you do is you get your Tank and you put him in a robe, then you wander around solo and wait for some MeleDPS class to jump the "easy kill"

Mythic is going for iconic appearances. Unless I'm mistaken, Sorceresses don't wear pants in the TTG. Mostly we'll see robes, as well as long loincloths like this:

I am almost certain that they wear robes because it was iconic of the Persian magi and other priesthoods throughout history to illustrate their role as scholar and priest. Considering that the word Mage originates from the Magi of Persia it is correct to assume that this assumption is valid. Now for the reason priests wore robes? Mostly ceremonial I imagine, it may also have to do with the fact that clothing used to signify power among other things.

So, you agree, and have added accurate historical evidence to my argument, right? Just checking here. I find a lot of disagreements on these forums happen when two people think they're arguing about something when in fact they're just agreeing but using different facts to support the same argument. :-P
Yes, the Magoi of Greece and Magi of Persia probably solidified the archetype, but didn't all their arts derive from Ancient Egyptian science, alchemy, medicine and "magic"? So, robes are the mark of the academic, ceremony and power. Yup, sums up why a Sorcerer would wear robes pretty well. Those are really his three spheres of experience.

Interesting that you would say that, because I am agreeing with you. Though in all honesty I missed your post and commented on the recent question. Also after posting I checked my book of Symbols and I was correct to think that clothing, robes in this case were worn to represent power. Like you said they are used for identification, especially to represent social classes. The book adds that because man is the only animal that wears clothes it represents his status in nature, so I guess to wear full robes displays divinity or closeness to the gods.
"Clothes are the external symbols of spiritual potency, the outward and visible shape of the inner being. In Western popular art the wizard's pointed hat, his magic wand, and cloak ornamented with stars recall the shaman's kaftan, a 'robe with long sleeves decorated with iron rings and the figures of mystical beasts.'" (pg 313-314, Penguin Dictionary of Symbols)
Oh and I was redirected to 'dress' from the word robe. So much for that debate, lol.
