I have been looking to buy a new laptop and before last night it was narrowed down to a Dell XPS1730 or Alienware's Area-51 m15x. To put it simply, on paper, the M-Tech D900C would eat both these laptops if they happened to be placed too close together.
Quad Core CPUs, 1066MHz FSB, 17 inch LCD, Dual 8800GTX, 4 GB 880Mhz DDR2 memory, SATA II HD's, Blue Ray Burner, i mean it reads like a desktop and the big kicker is that its over $1k cheaper than either the XPS or the area-51. Sounds almost too good to be true. They dont boast any super cooling methods or anything and Im worried about it catching on fire and melting through the table honestly lol. I read customer "testimonials" and all and no one said anything about overheating but im skeptical. Anyone ever had any experience with M-Tech before?

I am also curious on this laptop. I know very little but would like to know what people know about it.

Intresting company. They seem to try and baffle the less pc friendly people by puttign words like SLi in. Putting bigger memory numbers in.
What is SLI DDR3 video ram exacly? 2x 8800m GTX still only gives 512mb of ram it does not give youi 1024. Further more ive never ever heard them call it DDR3 SLI ram before. Seems like they are trying to trick people with fake advertising tbh.
Also notable they do not tell you the battery size, which is one of the most important things in a laptiop. Always get a 9cell or better if they offer. Especialy fro a gamign laptop.
And who would want to buy their T-shirts :s
If you read the reviews in that website it appears that they use high grade cpus and gpus (as thats the only thing that you can use) but the rest of it is very low quality with the appearance of quality. People who don't have problems are conned into thinking they are getting a deal when in fact they are just rolling the dice. Once something brakes you have to send it to the company to fix who in turn outsources it to some other company. The whole process takes weeks. And it's no guarantee that it will work after that. One of the reviewers said the battery doesnt even last an hour. If you go to their website you have to pay 225 extra for a "dead pixel guarantee" but it also says they have "the strictest tolerance for dead pixels even if you don't choose the dead pixel policy". Also, you have to pay 100 extra for a warranty that pays for the shipping.
I think the general rule of thumb works well for this one. If it looks too good to be true it most likely is. This company seems to make its money through cheap (in quality) products and conning people who have bought their warranties.

Thanks Yog
I pretty much felt it was "too good to be true" and just had to hear it from someone else. I think I would rather spend a few hundred dollars more on an Alienware or Dell but know I am getting high quality parts and service.

All companies use the cheapest parts avalible. I doubt alien ware is any differnt. There are reasons why they always just satate 4gb of 800mhz ram etc and not modles or timings.

When I say cheap I mean so cheap that dead pixels are a common thing to see. One man said he had entire lines of dead pixels. There were also several people saying that they would get motherboard after motherboard that would not work. Yeah, everyone tries to make them as cheap as possible but this is a company that goes so far as to get parts that break often and they know it.

My wife and I both have Alienware m9700s that we got in Dec of 06. Had to send in hers about a month ago and it took about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks to get it back. Honestly, that's not bad at all for notebook repairs. They sent us a fedex label and it came back fedex...no cost to us. Always get that extended warranty on a notebook!
Another super important point is that these are notebooks or portables, not laptops! You'll hurt yourself, seriously.
These were very expensive but should last us the three years that the warranty lasts. We know they'll work for WAR as they've been used as the demo computers at shows. Gotta love that. My desktop might blow it away, but so what? This is a fast box and portable!
Now if we could have waited six months or so, we could have dual-core. Oh well. Always happens.

If I recall Dell own a part if not all of Alienware now? no?
Either way, Ive tried the laptop gaming thing and its not so great... Sore arms, eyes and very hot system afther long periods of gaming. However if you travel alot, its pretty much your only real option:P
As a side note, alot of compagnies will advertise 1024Mb of video memory in SLI and the reason why they say its DDR3 is because the cards use GDDR3 (I think its 0.8ns or 1ns on thoses cards), so for most people that can be misleading. The problem here though, is that in SLI, the same information is replicated in the 512mb of memory on both cards in order for them to render faster, so you really only have 512Mb of memory. Its a ad. scheme, thats all:P Again, misleading...

I don't like that advice, personally. I like keeping on top of the tech as it comes out, so I can take part in discussions about it and compare. Doesn't mean I'll buy it.
