I'm not much a fan of firefox. I like things to look nice and firefox reminds me of windows 98...very unappealing. I use explorer...though I shouldnt. I get so many errors its annoying at times. I'm too suspicious of products I haven't used to do anything about it though.

Firefox can have google in the upper right corner and the back arrow is easier to use and a ton of add ons and ... nicer.. cleaner.. look?

IE is better for me because the text in Firefox looks notepad-like while IE is bolder and has sort of a shadow. Other then that they are identicial.

I'm not educated on the subject, but from what I've heard, Firefox is more secure. I started using it in 2006 and haven't stopped since.

What's noscript?

"It allows JavaScript, Java and other executable content to run only from trusted domains of your choice, e.g. your home-banking web site, and guards the "trust boundaries" against cross-site scripting attacks (XSS).
Such a preemptive approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even unknown!) with no loss of functionality..."

I also use trackmenot, adblock plus, keyscrambler, distrust, downthemall, and the dictionary. It's really handy.

IE for me mostly, though I do have Firefox on this comp for when GOA sites start playing up. I use the Google toolbar on IE for my searching, and have button 3+4 on my roller ball set for the FWD and Bck functions

This is a no brainer.

Firefox.

I have both but usually I use IE6 because the Mem Usage is alittle lower then firefox. Not that much big of a difference to actually be arguing about(19k Idle for IE, 24k Idle for FireFox).

I do notice often though that when "I" start up Firefox, it lags way more then IE when loading up while i'm playing WoW. I have a crappy computer though, so i'm pretty sure it's no big deal to other people.

IE annoys the hell out of me. Its so stupid, FF has a far better download system unlike IE where ill have a billion pop ups of things ive downloaded if i go on a downloading spree of like WAR videos, which i did at the start and just had a list of 20 or so videos in 1 pop up intead of 20 pop ups i would ahveh ad on IE.

The IE active X seems pointless and there just to bug you when you try open videos. IE's tool bar system is also really annoying compared to FF where its so much easyer to find things that you want!

IE 6 should be a relic of the past. I’d love little more than to kill it in a fire.

If you must use IE, make sure its 7. Otherwise go Firefox. If you like IE 7 just because the fonts seem smoother, you can enable that for FF just by doing this (http://samanathon.com/love-cleartype-in-ie7-use-it-in-firefox-and-everywhere-else/).

If you just keep FF open for a couple hours or so whilst you're surfing, just open up task manager and check firefox.exe on the process list, it regularly hits 110+ MB(I'm at 138 MB right now). It's not much when you have 2+GB but If you're at 1 gig or so and you're running a game along side it, it can hurt quite a bit.

I use Firefox. I wasn't aware of the memory leak, though, that's good to know. Using 93k right now, but with 2GB of RAM, I haven't noticed any slowing down, TBH.

I used to use a Super Mario skin for FF, but then I switched skins for Windows and that made it look terrible, so it had to go. I don't use any skins for FF nowadays, just noscript and adblock add ons.

Everyone always forgets Opera, the worlds third most popular browser

8igdave
02-26-2008, 09:45 AM
There is a reason its the third most popular. Thats because its simply not as good, people will go for the best and when they are all free there is no reason not to. ALthough IE is used more because it comse with pcs and many people probably havn;'t even heard of oprea, but thats propably because they dont need to!

Besides, what other broswers are there? FF, IE and oprea. i think there is one moer but i cant remeber now. 3rd best out of 3 or 4 isn't really an acomplishment!

it doesn't suprise me one bit you like it because you liek to be differnt and use things others dont/ like the fact you like S3 cards instead of their better nvida and ati cards which are more popular, most probably better supported and more powerful. You also dont buy branded pc parts even though they are far superior but you dont see the poitn in brands and want to be differnt. You also support agp claiming its not dieign at all even though it is, because others use PCI and you awnt to be differnt. Therefore the fact you use oprea i should have seen coming tbh.

By any chance do you use lynix?

PeterPan
02-26-2008, 09:51 AM
Linux sucks, I use the parts I consider best your just misguided. PCI-E is superior to AGP, but I don't think superior enough to warrant un-necessary upgrades.

Opera is far superior to IE and Firefox, it has its own built in BT client, had tabbed browsing ages before firefox and IE, and automatically saves all the web pages you have open when you close it. I've never had any compatiability issues except on my college website.

I have no addiction to off brand hardware either, its in my best interests to save money. You obviously read to deep into this. As an example S3 cards use less power, I can skimp on the power supply. Its not some mindless addiction to the brand.

PeterPan
02-26-2008, 10:12 AM
If you think I have some stupid foolish and childish need to stand out your wrong, to be honest I don't even care. I try to save people money, and I build PC's as cheaply as possible while still trying to maintain decent gaming capabilities.

If someone has an AGP board I will recommend an AGP card, its as simple as that. There is no need to urge them to waste even more money buying a new computer.

I've never run into compatibility issues. It just takes getting used to, since most websites don't load half their content unless you allow it. I know there was a few days there when I first got it that I was like "Wtf? This site worked fine yesterday."

Also, you'd be surprised how many extra ad sites are tied into even the most popular sites like collegehumor and such.

8igdave
02-26-2008, 12:45 PM
Ive never used lynix but cant say i really like the idea. it just seems like something for people who enjoy playing with codes. Which i doubt ill ever find intresting tbh.

I just find it intresting that you always seem to go the other way to others. You cannot deny that you go against trends which the majority of others follow or choose to take.

im quite tempted with the no add thingy, but dfoes it block popups as i use them on some sites, like on here when pming etc.

Fourth most popular browser. IE, FF and Safari are more popular.

There is a reason its the third most popular. Thats because its simply not as good, people will go for the best and when they are all free there is no reason not to.
Not as good? By that logic, IE is way superior to Firefox. Which we all know it isn't, by a large margin.

ALthough IE is used more because it comse with pcs and many people probably havn;'t even heard of oprea, but thats propably because they dont need to!
Firefox comes with PCs too.

It's true many haven't heard of Opera and they don't need to. Firefox is a good enough browser. But why would you settle for the second best?

Personally I have IE,FF and Opera on my computer and the one I mostly use is Opera followed by FF and last of all IE.

Opera is my favourite for a few reasons. It has a very good download system (which supports bitTorrent) has cool widgets, has speed dial, can easily change the view method and I'm sure there are another couple of reasons.

No Script for FireFox is ftw :p

it blocks adds and all kinds of stuff so I believe you also get more bandwidth on websites because advertisement isn't allowed to "steal" it.

I haven't had problems with No Script though, well very few, but mostly it's just to allow the website and it's np.

IE7 is a huge memory hog and it also renders css worse than firefox

FIrefox has a ton of plugins available that are pretty useful

Both have new acid test compliant browsers coming soon (IE 8 FF3)

opera has some funky javascript issues sometimes but it renders html/css better than either IE or FF

Safari used to be pretty good but since leopard its is pretty bad now. Plus it has completely different line heights than IE or FF (the height of a line of text in safari is very compressed when compared to how it is rendered with FF and IE)

Firefox.

And Linux/Unix > *.

As far as I'm concerned, the only reason I'm not using Linux 100% of the time is just because of gaming.

I don't see a reason to use IE over Firefox.

If you don't like the default firefox look, the official site on it's own hosts 274 themes which redo the look completely.
And the looks are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to customization.

Only if some sites are crappy enough to not work in Firefox, would I use IE.

Edit: I used to be an opera user, but it just got too heavy duty for me. e-mail clients, bittorrent clients.. meh.. too much dead weight. I liked the speed dial, mouse gestures etc. They should make a lite version of it, which doesn't try to do anything else except view pages. And view them good.

The value of Noscript can not be overstated enough. It's worth pointing out that not only does it stop the stupid ads, but it also serves to stop stupid shenanigans you'd often see on a forum of some sort (the old 'I steal your forum account trick that my friend actually fell for. -_-' )

Unfortunately, SOME sites, like Netflix, can't do things in Firefox, which irritates me to no end.

Also, runs way faster when I'm alt-tabbed in games running websites.
