it will generate a little more interest from people that rather would be mysterious, beautiful and have a special bond with animals more than slaughter and battle
which I think is great for increasing population with newcomers and casuals
but it has nothing to do with events in a mmorpg which must not be named, just a hunch

Or it could be that most pet classes in MMOs are really simple?
The only one I can think of that isn't is CoV's Mastermind, and that's because they teeter on being a RTS.

It's a mixture of both, but to be honest it's a lot easier to mary-sue/gary-stu yourself with an elf hunter than with anything else.
Especially if you are going for "beautiful, gentle, but DISTANT AND DEADLY"

To be honest i don't think that the White Lion will be as popular as the Shadow Warrior. The pet classes are usually popular and that's a given. But i haven't seen many pet classes incorporated as melee DPS either. The most common archetype for most MMO's is the long range shooter which is conveniently enough coupled with an animal companion more often than not.
The idea of a stealthy elven "assassin" is a pretty intriguing idea and the thought of picking off your enemy with long range shots and snares is a far more interesting concept to a 12 year old than a melee class that may require skill to survive (especially since they take more damage). Plus if you're just trying to annoy people for fun or contribute to the battle without risking your neck a ranged shooter is the way to go.
Now by no means am i saying the shadow warrior is an immature class but the concept for ranged DPS has been seen to be a popular one for immature players with it's relative ease to stay out of range and runaway. But those that are mature and are gonna play the Shadow Warrior i salute you in battle because a reliable and dedicated ranged DPS player can help out more than many people care to admit.
Just my own take on it and once again i'm probably not right just my take on it all.

I completely agree with that last post ty. I hate when ranged DPS classes are bashed and when elves are. Let people be. Sure, immature players are seen as elves, but that's not to say that they're the only ones. Just play the game and take it for what it's worth, which is a alot of fun.

Non-caster pet classes tend to be very easy to play, especially in pvp.

Why is it that you think pet classes will ruin Mythic? Please elaborate instead of generalizing.

Its pretty obvious why pet classes tend to ruin class balance in mmorpgs and im too lazy today to write an essay about it. Ill leave it to someone else to elaborate for now...

IMO, Its because pet classes are generally harder to balance then other classes. You can't make the pet too weak or no one will play the class and those who do will cry for buffs and you can't make the pet too strong or everyone will want to play it and people will cry nerf.

IMO the stereotypical immature players will be melee Shadow Warriors.

White Lion, Shadow Warrior, Witch Hunter, Engineer and Squig Herder will all be very popular classes. Why? Because people like the idea of being able to stand back and just shoot things with guns/arrows with no effort.

A White Lion doesn't stand back and shoot things. Neither does the Witch Hunter most of the time.

I disagree that this will be the most played class. I would bet that the shadow warrior will best it in total number of players and I am thinking that archmage could as well. Plus it isn't too often that you find a 2h tanking class, so I am betting swordmaster gives it a chase as well.
My thinking is that the WoW hunter still carries with it the stigma of being a class played by 10 year olds and that all hunters were terrible players and that is why they chose the percieved easiest class. I think people will shy away from this class because they will believe that the same stereotypes will be applied here.
Now melee + pet is a whole different animal espeically when you are still a squishy dps class. Depending on how aggro works, big hits from a 2h can spell your doom. If it turns out the pet is a moderate to significant amount of your dps then you will have to control him at all times and in the hectic world of RvR we all know how troublesome that can get.
If this turns out to be anything like the beastlord from EQ1 I highly doubt people will see it though till max level in the early days of the game. Lots of people made beastlords when they were first released but very few made it anywhere near the cap, at least on my server. The reason was that it was not the easiest of classes, you had to control your aggro, buff the pet + yourself, debuff the target(s), heal the pet, and keep it attacking the correct targets (not hitting CC'ed targets). Plus on top of that you had pathing issues, aggro range issues, and as an ogre you had a nice big bear in your face most fights.
You might be right, it may get rolled alot, but I am betting that White Lions turn out to be the alt class everyone loves to twink up before leveing. Gear may very well make or break this class. The weapon will especially, like any other melee dps class, you are only as good as your weapons. I don't foresee very many of them at max level from the first wave of players.
If I were going Destruction I would find the class best suited to kill shadow warriors and roll it. There will be a million of those guys around come launch. It should be a nice buffet of easy points.

I'm also putting my money on Shadow Warriors becoming the most popular High Elf class.
