choosing is very hard, and it is tough to really tell the difference. What is the major difference between te two (i know you get a disc as a magus) is there anything else ? yes i want to be a caster

The sorcerer will probably hit harder but has the chance to overload, the magus will most likely get some ability's that are based around his disk in melee range and be more heavily armored in exchange for not hitting as hard.

The Sorcerer mainly focuses around high damage - the longer he's casting the higher the damage output is, but there's a risk of hurting yourself in the process if you overdo it.

The Magus on the other hand is more steady on that manner. His spells are bit weaker then the Sorcerer's but on the other hand he has more defensive spells which can really help if you're getting pounded on a a lot.

Basically if you want to do damage quickly and don't care about your health, go with the Sorcerer.
If you want be alive after a hard fight without having to rely only on damage to survive, go with the Magus.

I view it as this. Magus are for people who like to be in control of the fight, while the Sorceress (Yes, Sorceress) is for people who prefer things to be a bit more... risky...

well that pretty much clears it up. Thank you I will be staying on my path as a magus. As much as i love top end damage the idea of wearing toilet paper as armor is not appealing to me :-P

er i think they will both be toilet paper wearers...just the magus will have more utility spells/disc related. this (http://www.war-resource.com/careers/magus.php#abilities) is a list of known abilities and if you notice, amost arent direct damage. Since we have seen little of the Sorceress we can only go on what we have been told, which is very little.

But personally im very torn, im on the fence atm weather to play one or the other(im currently sided with magus but its close) as the sorceress will do more damage and its always fun to play a little russian roulette, especially since i cant directly summon demons etc.

Malal i feel the same way and am going the same route atm the abilities do not look bad. I think i shall become a magus!

a sorcerer does damage to himself, but has suicidal potential for high burst damage.
a magus is a more typical caster with aoes and single target damaging spells.

Me personally Sorcerer, but I'm a roleplayer and a writer that goes all on look back story feel and race. Magus seems too generic playstyle wise too. To me an average caster sounds rather boring... but a Russian Roulette just might blow yourself up presents the opportunity for a true tactician and thinker like myself to shine.

I dunno what's average about the Magus. He floats around on a freakin' disk that eats people. Kinda :D

If you just wanna do massive damage and blow things up (including yourself occasionally) than you want a sorceress.

If you want to do damage but have other utility and probably more survivability than you want a magus.

Personally i would hold off on that choice until the magus mechanic is released.

For me it's not the question of either/or, but who will be made first Sorceress,Magus or DoK.:D Yes I am a altaholic.

I agree with this. The Magus is more interesting to me then the sorceress in rp view. While sorceresses try to master chaos magic , the magus is more one with it already with all that follows from such a attunment.

I chose the Sorceress because of it's rp value. I love the whole secret Slaanesh worship, He was always my favourite Chaos God by far and this is the only way to really worship Him as an RPer

I've watched some vids of the Magus I think he has more dots than direct damage. He will have some direct dmg spells but I doubt they will be as strong as or as many as the sorceress/er.

Magus is the utiity caster, so if by typical you mean 'corresponds to a D&D wizard', then yes. Spell selection is going to be a big deal for sorc. If you don't like number-crunching and having every single button on your 'board hotkeyed, do not play magus (well, unless you just want to make all the others look good by comparison).

If you don't really want to waste time strategizing beyond picking the appropriate target to kill first, Sorceress is your class.

Basically, a well-played magus has more 'screw over everyone in casting range' potential (and a poorly played one will lose every time), whereas Sorc will play roughly identically in any given battle, catering more to the people with several alts, wavering interest in the game, or just a pronounced preference for setting on fire.

//Personally, I'm on the fence here. I think if I end up playing much I have the potential to leverage the Magus more, but I also really, really like setting things on fire.

I meant gameplay wise. Visually and R/P wise yeah the Disc makes the Magus unique, however I'm emo so I have to play the pretty dark depressing race or class, of course nothing is as angsty as an SW so it's my main, but a Sorcerer (yes sorcerer, nothing against the ladies but the story works better with a dude) that knows he's gonna die either way, whether he wins or loses, and has been forsaken by the forsaken, condemned by the condemned and outcasted from the outcasts for most of his life is gonna be pretty damn shadowy, however I intend to r/p my Sorc in away so that he isn't so much outwardly angry and traitorous, but more just calm, amused and mysterious, almost kind on the outside, but on the inside actually a plotting evil vicious villain. And my SW's baby brother. Ah but I've gone on a tangent a bit haven't I?

I was torn between the two as well. But IMO that little disc the Magus floats around on is goofy as hell. Sorc for me.

I was going to go with the Sorcerer, then I got interested in the Magus, and now I'm back to Sorcerer lol. I just like doing tons of damage and the risk of hurting yourself is fun and interesting too. Although the Magus will be more likely to keep himself alive, and he also is utility, he would last longer. But maybe not, it all depends!

Both seem really cool to me. Im leaning towards sorceress since i saw the sorceress presentation from paris, but im waiting till i see spell lists and stuff like that before i make my decision. Unfortunately, I have about 5 or 6 classes that im really intersted in. Archmage, Sorc, Magus, Shadow Warrior, DoK are the ones that look the coolest to me. Damn you mythc!!
