I posted this in the CE thread, but figured you'd want you own thread ;)
IGN just posted some pictures form the CE art books. Among them was this:

That's one badass Engineer :D

I don't see how he could possibly move in that outfit, but still BA. The totems on the belt are pretty sweet.

Hehe, and that, my friends, is the reason why people chose to become engineers (including me), i cant wait to play!

Looks like they have begun to go the WoW way. That looks more cartoonish than anything I've seen so far. I really hope they try not to get too WoWish in the way they attempt to make the Dwarf engineer look.
P.S.
Well. They have got plenty of time to change that now...

Look at it closely, it's really not that bad. It's just the backback and haute guards that look bulky, but dwarfs don't have necks, so not turning the head isn't a big deal.

I don't know how you can complain about that engineer looking cartoonish. That pistol looks like it could blow a black orc's head off! Besides, dwarves like to look intricate.

Dwarf to Orc: "I'd like to see that choppa work when your hand is blown off"
sorry, just seemed like such a badass pose that looked like he was telling his friend "Watch me plug that Orc charging us" I had to comment.
Honestly I'm not a huge fan of the Dwarf classes but Engineer keeps looking better and better.

Add it to the list of dual-wield pistol evidence.
Dude doesn't look like he takes much guff, that's for sure.

I'll agree the game is going WoWish, but that my friend LOOKS like a warhammer master engineer! Looks like it could go right along side the other engineer models. Don't beleave me, then go to www.warhammer.com .

I have been playing Warhammer since you lay in the cradle. So I know about it being before wow and the like. I just think that this particular engineer is overdone and therefore getting the WoW feel. Look at his eyes, or whatever you would call that. The others so far released look way cooler in my opinion. And especially the drum revolver is outta the line. I think they should stick to normal flintlocks. Cooler. Next thing we know the Engineer is wielding a storm bolter...

Those are lenses over his eyes, magnifying them like old glasses used to do.
I think that piece of art's pretty sweet, myself. The mask looks a bit like the ones used by the Cannoneers (http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/newimage.asp?Size=A&Img=256111). I love the ancestor medallions all over his belt, and how his coat is made out of pockets. He needs lots of room to store things so he can build turrets and bombs and such, which is why that huge pack is also awesome. You can see parts and maybe the stocks of guns in there, along with some tools that aren't stored on his shoulders and hands. He's all ready to go build stuff and fight on the way.
His guns are a bit on the absurd side, they kinda look like grenade launchers. And the gears guarding his head and neck are a little over the top, too. But for the most part, it's a nifty piece of art that really isn't too ridiculous when you look at it closely.

T'was nice knowin ya, Greenkins.
It looks a bit too cartoonish, bright and generally over the top for my tastes, even if it is an Engineer. As was said, a bit too much in the Warcraft direction.

Wow you must be petty old, I even had a squat army... kinda. Remeber the devs have stated MANY times that their going for the TT look. And the TT models look kinda cartoony. Granted this looks more last edition dwarf then current edition. Oh well.
What I wanna know is WHERES the beard, better be tucked under that leather jacket (looks like it could be)

Like I said above, their made to be like the TT models, more cartoonish then dark. Although admittiblly I would rather have it the other way around.

You can see it, it's white. I think they made it short and mostly covered so that the modelers and texture artists could really get a look at what the concept artists wanted the design to be.

Awesome picture. Engineers should be over the top imo, we ARE going into combat with sometimes unproven technology and explosives galore ya know...
The recent armor dye video + this art = some big time options.

Ya I see it, but all I see is a short shoddy beard... one that would make a dwarf become a slayer out of embarressment!
But what you say does make 100% sense, can't have a beard ruining the point of a piece of concept art!

Given that WoW's style is largely ripped wholesale from Warhammer, I'd say that this is reasonably likely.

Lol you had a squat army. OK I guess you're my age then. Just guessed your age from your infant ramblings and threads in the High Elf forum. No offense though.;)
SQUAT ARMY LOL. I remember being pissed they didnt make it into the second edition of the W40k. Some very cool new models (at the time) inside the cover of Dark Millinium.

That is some cool stuntie. But the squig herders shall dominate!!!!
I agree with the people saying that is over the top and too cartoony/warcraft-like. I hope there is at least the *option* to not make your character look like it can't even move. Reminds me of how I couldn't stand characters piling more and more fruity-looking stuff on themselves in WoW until they look like a giant katamari.
But if such an appearance is optional and players have the choice to look a little more realistic, then it won't be so bad.

Well this is just a concept art. I think screenshots would tell more about the game being cartoonish or not.

Personally I dont think its too WoW-ish. It is a little over the top but still within the IP. I've seen some outrageous dwarf models from games workshop too ya know. Complete with "golden" armor with a million trinkets and thingies attached to them, helmets with horns as tall as a dwarf is, and riding into battle with beermugs.
The backpacks are awesome in my opinion. We've seen them in some conceptart and they are in the game. I've seen a vid with a highlevel engineer carying that around. I'd post the vid here but while I'm not sure , i think it might be leaked beta-footage. Though I did find it quite easily on a popular site.

Concept art is requested from a variety of artists. An artist is not going to change their "style" at the expense of pleasing someone like yourself, just in the event someone says "Hey that looks WoWish".
Said artist is clearly very talented, and the picture looks fantastic. Like much of the concept art, they are all different in tone.

ur partly right, but wow was even more exaggerating as far as armors and weapons go.
i dont get some ppl that think "the bigger the cooler"
i tend to think "the more beautiful the cooler" or "the more realistic while in a fantasy archetype, the cooler =P"

A giant spanner, grenades, land mines, turret parts, and hopefully a mini-keg, if that skill is still in. Plus some playing cards and a book in case he gets bored.
