View Full Version : "Teabagging" as a game mechanic

OK, I know your impressions of the title are like "wtf is this guy talking about" kind of deal, but it's not exactly how it sounds (although the title was intentional to lead you into the thread). I just got an idea of keeping track of players that have directly laid the killing blow to an opponent and mocked their corpse with a /teabag emote on a fallen player. The enemy that dealt the killing blow has the choice to "teabag" an enemy corpse, which gives the poor soul a literal, physical teabag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_bag) with the name and time the person killed and mocked your dead body. This will leave the "teabagger" defenseless for 2-3 seconds while he is "teabagging" his unfortunate "teabaggie." The receiver will get an actual teabag with the name of the teabagger's name that will go into a special teabag pouch that will hold up to a certain number of teabags, such as 50 or some very high number.

Now why should I keep this terrible reminder of humiliation? What am I going to do with it? Drink some tea in shame:confused:?

Ah, but this is where it gets really good. Since you know who gave you this teabag, why not return the favor? When you meet that person in battle again and kill him, you can give him back his own teabag in vengeance! The once poor soul now becomes the abuser, giving back the teabag with his name on it, and a signifire that shows you that you have done this guy wrong in the recent past, and he has had the last laugh:D!

Or so you would think! He does not his own teabag, he wants that other guy to keep it, so he sees that guy again that just gave him his old teabag, kills him, and gives it back:mad:! (NO! You take it and like it!)

What I have just thought up is a way to have a true, in game, arch nemesis's. The teabag will record how many times it has passed between the players, creating bloodfueds between certain players. When it has been passed a certain amount of times, such as fifteen, they both get a special trophy that has the name of the nemesis, and a title that shows this rivalry. The more they exchange that teabag, the better that trophy is going to look.

Well, if you were kind enough to read through it all, what do you think? Criticisms? (BLEH! That is totally stupid and you are full of fail!) Praise? (OMG! This has got to be in the game, like yesterday!)

hot teabag , instead of potatoe. you take it , no you take it , OUCH IT HURTS, you take it. i bet if this is instituted there will be a statue in town of the two who pass the tea bag back and forth the most.

Well, I really wanted to get the message across and get a few chuckles of how silly and infuriating this mechanic could be. And yes, women will be able to teabag. What does gender have to do with placing an item on a dead body?

Soapbar has a point but i dont think the Tea bag follows the lore but on the otherhand
who gives a about lore when you are slaying millions of people and teabagging them after MUAHHAHAHAHA

Forgive me of my ignorance, but I know only a few little bits of lore here and there. Perhaps not an actual teabag, but maybe some derogatory symbol of hate that is placed on somebody that relates to the faction and class could be used. But I would think that a teabag would a lot funnier.

I think it was written somewhere that players would be able to make rude gestures to opposing factions, seeing as how there will be no verbal communication between them. I wanted to take it a step further and have sort of marker of humiliation to remember and return the favor some day.

A wow as in truely epic idea, or as in "oh dear God, how bizarre and completely taboo that it's stupid that it needs a facepalm ascii" kind of wow?

This is actualy a realy good idea, Espeshaly as a Dwarf whose whole world revolves arround Grudges. I'd love to see some sortof arch nemesis rivalry system in place, perhapse giving the ability to track that person down to the zone their in or scenario their at so as to get a better chance of bearing down that grudge soaked "tea bag".

Do you think any sortof vengence mechanic will be implimented in War? other than the collective sacking of the citty?

I vote we put this question to the powers that be over at Ea/Mythic at the next forum interview

Would girls be able to teabag too?

It's called clam dipping.

Believe it or not. A similar mechanic IS in the game. Watch the new Jeff Hickman video. If you choose to be a guild's flag-bearer, when you die, the enemy can steal your flag, desecrate it, and post it up in their keep. It then becomes an issue of guild pride to assault that keep to get your flag back, so they can no longer gloat over having it.

I like the teabag idea. Although, I think just a record of the tabagger/tabagie in the TOK would be enough. Having an actual teabag in your bags would get annoying because it would be a slot taken up and the teabag would only be used on the occasion that you should even meet your rival again.

Kay lads 'n lasses lets keep it clean, the topics title was only a metaphore for a vengence mechanic to spur maniacle witch huntery of specific people in game, that and to gather attention which it seems to have done lol.

Atleast theres no dirty sanchez emotes.

On a serious note... hopefully we have the /rude emote atleast.

Interesting to say the least.

Instead of giving them an item, it could just be something inside the tok as well. It should(keyword) be easier to implement that way as well.

Also my thought on it, instead of being some random person you have killed make it like its own achievement.

Like say you have gotten the killing blow on said victim 10 times in a row with out them contributing to your death with in that 10 kills. Then the "tea bag" can be administered?

that does sound cool with the flag bearer business, but at the same time i like the individuality part of tea bagging , for people who may not have a guild, or for people who have a guild but rolled a character on another server due to the supposed wait times that are going to be implemented during heavy server traffic.

I don't really see the need for an ingame personal arch nemesis system like that. If anything, it should just be recorded in the ToK who killed you the most. Like a top 10 for the week, month and all time. No need for actual items IMO.

As for teabagging in itself, I always found it pretty crude. Sure I guess it's humiliating, just not very funny. :p

And technically women can't teabag no. They don't have the right bits and pieces for it.

I actually do remember seeing that, and thought that was a pretty cool idea of community pride and vengeance. Now that I think about it, they can both play hand-in-hand. The "teabag," effigy, or whatever it should be be called, not only will it have the character name on it, it could have the current guild they belong to as well, making everyone associated with him an enemy that you target. This of course is more associated with personal grudges than community grudges, but the friend of thine teabagger is an enemy of thine own.

Read his post more closely. He said it would go into a special pouch/bag. Thing key rings in WoW.

I like the idea. But I think it would be better for the "teabag" to only appear after a guy have tebagged you five times or something. I think that would help to sort away the random ones from the ones that are meant to get you pissed :).

OK, after reading a few of the replies, what I meant by a physical item in a teabag pouch would be that it would be a bag specifically for teabags, not any other items (like trophies, armor, bear spleens, etc.) Perhaps a ToK recording would probably be a lot easier to implement, and it would provide an organized list of names and number of times the teabag has been exchanged, rather than a huge block of screen of the same figure that shows you are hated.

A possible revision is that someone does a very, very rude emote that locks the teabagger/ insulter in place for a long period (like casting a spell) and records this insult in the ToK. It could record who has done it the most, frequency of specific class, certain faction, and how many times you have returned the favor, and your stats against other classes and what not. However, the recording of specific names will be marked and refreshed if they keep seeing each other over and over again. This will ensure some sort of known rivalry amongst players.

Good thinking about the frequency. A creation of a teabag being created after a certain amount of a very specific, caster timed emote would be better for the creation of a teabag, but I will stay with once created, it will be passed back and forth each time they use it once between each other, keeping the grudge hot.

And yes, the bag would work very much like the key ring in WoW.

If anyone thinks keeping a collection of ballsacks in a pouch on your person is a good thing... well, you need to get out more.

That, or we've found the ever elusive 'ballsack killer'. Sending your IP to the FBI as we speak :p.

Ugh...

What I meant by teabag is the actual type of bag you use to make tea with. Yes, I used it to point to a signature of humiliation and the action that FPS players do to humiliate someone, but the actual object would be a teabag that you use to make tea, like Lipton's or some other popular brand name company does. I wanted to use it as a play on words, but perhaps it may have flown a little over some peoples heads. I even put a wiki link in the word teabag so I did not have to explain this. Gah!

I doubt that they would implement something like this, since their focus is on RvR teamwork and not personal PvP vendettas. If the concept was used though, I really hope that they wouldn't make even a vague reference to the homophobic behavior of 13-yr-old (mentally, at the least) FPS kiddies. Something more like the ears of Diablo would be far more appropriate.

Seriously. I doubt they'd do something like this, it's more about everyone coming together into one big effort, rather than settling scores on an individual basis.

Not that there isn't room for settling scores in the Warhammer world, though. There's no reason to go make a nod and wink reference to one of the stupidest things done in online gaming to have this in the game in some way. It could be an item from each race that gets in your 'I hate these guys' bag. An empire character could press onto a body some sort of declaration, the Dwarfs could leave a page with that specific grudge crossed out, a chaos guy could imprint the symbol of Tzeentch and use that as an item... you don't have to use a reference.
