WAR Sucks, and so does the game...

First! Woot! If you can’t tell I’m in a very ornery mood while writing this, which is perfect. I’m going to be pi**ing off a lot fanboi’s and possibly a developer or two, namely the soft skinned GM/VP Mark Jacobs of EA Mythic who defends his work like Tom Cruise and Scientology. And for the record, Paul, WAR sucks; Led Zeppelin does not. That’s right; we’re talking about Warhammer Online and why it’s going to suck more than Eyonix crying about Bus Shocks.

WAR is doing a few things right, but we already know that, otherwise you wouldn’t be here reading this. Look, I’m not a hater; I really am rooting for EA Mythic and I wish them much success, I’m actually one of those people who are happy it’s been delayed again. I want to play the game they tell us they are making. I want it to be everything Paul Burnett gets manic over. But it won’t and I for one am not getting Rick Rolled this time. Big conclusion from a guy who’s never even played it, right? Well guess what? We don’t need to play it to know this stuff. EA Mythic has already given us everything we need to know.

For starters look at the development cycle. This game misses it release date more often than Britney Spears misses her court hearings. WAR is like a bad house, a money pit so to speak. Around every corner something needs to be rebuilt. When you have to close your beta test to make the game FUN you know you’re in for a bumpy ride. WAR should have crashed and burned long ago, but thanks to Electronic Arts, Mythic has avoided natural selection. I know, life’s not fair Mr. McQuaid…

WAR is dirty. I understand they are going with low system requirements and that they want the style to be dark and gritty, but honestly, look at those graphics! It’s like looking at Dirt! When the **** does that become a good idea!? The color palette is that of a clown in Saving Private Ryan. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but the entire art direction and modeling reminds me of 1998 Half-Life, except Half-Life still looks better. As if the Art wasn’t bad enough on its own, the animations don’t seem to compliment it at all. They don’t seem to have any life; they come off as forced and are literality unbelievable. I won’t even get into the corny elves spinning staves like a known elderly man in “Hey, The Kings Back!”

And last but surely not least, is balance and community. WAR has 24 classes, nearly 3x that of WoW. Blizzard proving they are the best in the business and attempting to make an E-Sport out of the Arena system has an extremely difficult time keeping 9 classes fun and balanced. Why would EA Mythic even attempt this? Are the devs going to ignore the cries for balance? Warhammer is primarily a PvP game and PvP requires the most attention to balance. It’s also the area with the loudest community. The game isn’t even out yet and EA Mythic is already afraid of a public forum. How Mythic plans to keep players happy by ignoring the ocean of tears is beyond me? Don’t give me that “This isn’t WoW, this is WAR” Bolshevik. WAR will be in direct competition with WoW, if you want to admit it or not, and you will have the same immature crybabies.

It seems that Warhammer was built as an answer to compete with last-gen MMO’s instead of being something the next generation will be able to offer. WoW went into production 8 years ago and has had 4 years of unmatched success since then. Let’s not forget that Blizzard is already working on their second masterpiece. Bioware is 2 years into its MMO development with a million other companies clawing for a piece. Expect some big announcements at E3 this year as well to steal attention from WAR. Once the hype has passed and people start to give real reactions of the game, It will be 2009, and WAR will have missed it’s opportune moment, by a year or two…

EA Mythic, prove me wrong. You have had ample time and resources. You have brilliant, talented, and passionate employees. You have an army of interested and potential subscribers willing to give your game a shot. You have no excuse for failure other than yourself.

WAR has only missed two or maybe three release dates and they even said it themselves that they wern't set in stone, not to mention that it's been in development for less time than WoW or any other MMO.

And many of the points you've made have already been talked about, and i've probably had a hand in shooting down most of them, and it's your fault for not reading further...

Basicaly your post is one giant flame of ignorance, now whilst I am not a fanboy I will sit here and call you stupid because it's topics likes this, that are truly inspired by ignorance, and serve no prupose.

Now I will admit there are things I do not like about WAR but again no game is perfect, not even WoW.. as seen by they're many patches.

I look at the pushbacks as a good thing in that they are fixing things. Look at WOW as an example. I dont know their beta process but I know that when they made WOW they were a very successful company. The more money you have the better you can make your game. Im sure if Mythic was alone they would have put out a game, but with EAs help I think it will be great (personal opinion). Beta was closed to improve and add features, doesnt mean that it wasnt fun but they were just making it more fun.

I cant comment on the graphics and colours because that is all personal opinion. I personaly have seen some good screen shots and some crappy ones. The good ones give me hope that the games graphics wont be horrible. I dont expect amazing graphics in an MMO as long as everything else is solid so I dont mind bad graphics really.

They have 24 classes but there is a mirror for almost all of them. That makes basicaly 12 classes on each side making it easier to balance. Also this is hopefully going to be on a grander scale then 2 vs 2 in the arena. Balancing for groups of 2 is much harder then large scale battles and 6 person skirmishes.

Mythic arent really afraid of a public forum I would say, they dont add anything to the community. A forum run by mythic requires more time and you cant actually ban anybody because then they lose a customer. With many private forums the mods can ban and infration all they want without repercusion other then whining. It also lets people chose the style of forum they want. WHA for stricter modding for example.

No matter what WOW isnt WAR. They are entirely different games, sure they are competing but they are still different. I cant say that WAR is good or bad because I havent played it. They have different ideas for gameplay behind them, WOW PvE based and WAR RvR. I personaly think its apples and oranges. They are both fruit but its all what individuals fancy. Ive been watching and listening for about a year now and Im happy with what Ive seen. Hopefully Mythic and EA can prove you wrong and I wish you luck in any future games you choose to play later and hopefully WAR.
