Of first off I just want to say I do NOT want to let this thread become randing flaming and get death by fire. Please I'm begging everyone to keep this a serious discussion.
Now there are probably threads like this somewhere but no recent ones and I decided I'd like to make a new one... and KEEP it productive. Okay also, my opinion is probably biased because I have looked into WAR much more than AoC and all ready Pre-ordered the collector's edition. I generally get my first impression of a game by the Aesthetics of the races and classes. From WAR I had a hard time choosing my class before the Shadow Warrior was announced because I liked the idea of many classes. In AoC there aren't quite as many that appeal to me really, the only one really being Assassin. If I ever end up playing AoC I will be a Stygian(sp?) Assassin.
Now I do like the idea of AoC's new innovative Combat system, however their ranged combat system is lame, because I would never want to first person shoot in an MMO. Then there is mounted combat, which I don't like just because I see endgame as everyone fighting on their mounts which I think is lame, but then only certain classes can do it right (if I'm wrong please correct me). Also WAR has it's infamous RvR style, however CS is balanced by king encounter PvE, which can go either way as a good thing or a bad thing right now. A
Another issue is the rating. The M on AoC is sure to attract annoying ten yr olds and repulse the parents. For that one it all comes down to Leniency of the parents. For me personally I don't care if a game has gore or not, and as for the Nudity, let me assure you... Real>Pixilated. For me I prefer Teen rating over Mature
Then there's the Graphics. I definitely think AoC has some pretty graphics, but just imagine what that'll look like with a ton of people in a crow.ded area like a Cap city and and not using Nvida Go Geforce 6800 Graphics Chip. I still count it as a bonus though, however I believe WAR will look very good in it's end result and still not need really good software to play.
Overall, I do think I'm a little biased towards WAR, and I'll still pick WAR. I'd like to play the beta for both but I know that Aint happening.

I think the idea is that you can't compare games at all, because it will inevitably lead to bashing, regardless of the OP's intent.
I've seen threads locked that sound exactly like yours.
But before the lock, I'll say that I think AoC has some cool things, one of the better fighting systems (first person bows rock! So does mounted combat), but the endgame and replayability sounds brutal (ala WoW raids)

Il likely play some AoC and maybe even until WAR comes uot. Then when WAR comes out Il try WAR and play the game that appeals more.
AoC seems like a game that has taken off a huge bite so Im going to wait a little while, read some reviews somewhere and likely try it out maybe about a week after it comes out. I havent researched deeply into AoC so I cant make opinions other then I think they are realy doing a lot to change to way games could be played in the future and I hope for its success.

AoC is more graphically appealing, and I do love the gore concept...but it will not be like the MMO WAR will be. Not everyone can afford a $2k computer to play a game.
They are different games as far as I am concerned. I will purchase AoC on xbox360 and get WAR on my pc.

hard to compare games that I cannot play. I will be getting AOC and giving it a go. Iam jonesing for a MMO since there is none that I want to play at the moment.
Only thing I do not like so far from AOC is o auto attack. I just wonder how that will work. I will see when it comes out :)

Could you inform me what this has to do with Warhamemr at all? Since I read the article and can not find any real comparison between AoC and WAR besides you pointing out an opinion on AoC.
Your opinion is just as good as mine but when comparing two games without using evidence to back anything up well then it is not much of an comparison.
Like any compare thread it is just oranges to apples. The games have simalarites and differences but more often then not end up being flame fests.

Different games that are going to appeal to different players.
I think it's a good thing if the MMORPG industry started to offer more than one 'big' MMORPG at any given time so players have more of a choice.

ok actually i knew about aoc before war then i lost interest but i do like it how it is available for the 360 because the graphics will be better on that ( i have a crappy graphics card) and i like 360 better then MOST computer games ( not including my anticipation of war) if they implemented mounted combat in war i would like it to be terrain based lets say horses are too heavy to go over a rickety old bridge or a rugged mountain or a dense forest and can only be used in big open fields and having less damage more of a hit n run thing like assassins creed where you have an increased movement rate but do less damage and cannot use moral abilities. now with the m rating will stop all the little kiddies playing and probably therefore most of the player base would be hardcore raiding. i do like the graphics in aoc the graphics at the moment are better but war's graphics are liable to change now i like the character creation much like oblivions hope that is implemented into war but war's customization is in your class, race, trophies, and armor dyes not as much as the face as from what i know. thats cool but i want at least twice as much face choices as wow (srry for going off topic there). the classes are much more bright and vivid and imagined then aoc big dude with a sword and mage and war has an amazing rvr i don't think aoc has rvr like this do they?

Honestly I think they are rushing AoC. I know friends who are in beta and based on what they have told me the game is still riddled with bugs and is incomplete in a lot of areas.
Personally I think AoC has a lot of cool ideas, but lacks focus. The game claims to be a PVP mmo, yet they claim to have big PVE raid zones too. Apparently every class can learn stealth too, which is horribly lame, though I heard it's not 100% invis like in WOW/DAOC and you can train to have higher perception to detect it. They aren't very descriptive on how players will control land besides building guild towns. I feel like the game is going to be very clunky and bugged on release, similar to EQ2.
I also feel like the combat system is pretty gimmicky, and some classes already seem more powerful than others just based on descriptions. They claim the Guardian is the BEST tank in the game, thus making the other tanks sub-par when it will come to raid tanking most likely - reminds me too much of EQ2's problem: too many tanks, too few spots to fill in.

Also WAR has it's infamous RvR style, however CS is balanced by king encounter PvE, which can go either way as a good thing or a bad thing right now.
why dose everyone have beef with the king encounter? Like what else is there to do after taking your sworn foes city. I cant think of any other climax to such a epic event and personally cant wait to experience it.

while the initial impression of AoC is good this is almost totally do to graphics, and a promise of inovatoive combat.
they have 8 classes, and some of them are really close. they have a new style of combat, but it pretty much spreads across the board for all their classes making them uniform. they have one ace with 3 different cultures. fine wars only got humans(x2), elves(x2), dwarves, orcs, goblins, but wars races where they are technically the same race are visually distinct.
in warhammer while there are 4 archtypes these are no more simlar then warlocks and mages were in wow. exept for the fact that in war you will use custom armor, and will never look alike. in AoC you can pretty much use any medium armor in the game, so all classes using medium armor will look the same no matter what culture they come from. so as AoC looks nice from a graphics and animation standpoint. it is very uniformed in racial, and class difference.
i dont see AoC going very far. while the graphics are nice, the world is uniform from race to class. it jsut wont have staying power becuse of this.
