View Full Version : Weapon swaping?

I've read/seen that the DoK can use either dual swords for faster essence building and melee damage or they can hold a chalice in their offhand which increases their magic capabilities. I'm wondering if it will be possible to swap out 2 swords for a chalice on the fly in the heat of combat? Build up essence quick with 2 blades and then swap the chalice in for when you cast and swap back for melee. Doing this repeatedly could be a tad broken if it works well

I expect that there is some kind of [In Combat], [Out of Combat] system in place, during which time you cannot switch weapons/armor... However this would suck for tanks, being able to grab a shield in the middle of combat has always been a huge tactical advantage. Possibly when you switch gear, you loose all of the essense/hate/grudge/morale etc you have gathered?

You would just have to wait to find out I'm afraid

Plus dont assume the chalice or offhand sword grant special bonuses. None of that has been confirmed. I have to say that would be really frickin cool though.

Didn't Josh say in one of the recent interviews the chalices did some kind of special bonus's? I could be wrong.

I know why I am not in beta, because I don't have a dxdiag file from a system that can run the game (I am waiting until the marketing gods deign to release the specs to buy a whole new system)... I do sincerely hope the system spec will be gold and announced before open beta, so I don't have to guess. Guess we'll all see in October.I do lots and lots of research to find NDA breaks. The NDA doesn't technically apply to me.

If you've signed up for the beta, which I assume the vast majority of people on this forum have, you have already accepted the NDA .
Failure of Consideration
As applied to contracts, this term does not necessarily mean a want of consideration, but implies that a consideration, originally existing and good, has since become worthless or has ceased to exist or been extinguished, partially or entirely. It means that sufficient consideration was contemplated by the parties at the time the contract was entered into, but either on account of some innate defect in the thing to be given, or nonperformance in whole or in part of that which the promisee agreed to do, nothing of value can be or is received by the promisee.

Use your judgment when linking to certain posts or reposting that information here. If the information about a certain aspect of the game isn't widely known yet joe244 on a random forum just posted a bulletpoint list detailing that aspect, there's a pretty good chance it's not kosher to repost here. worry not!
the devs have aleady stated a while back that the would allow eapon swaping, becuse its realistic, but not armor swaping during combat. now for people like me is to figure out how to get out of those pesky combat flags to change my armor while not technically in combat.

It was stated that the chalices will have stats leaning towards spell casting as well as bonus healing.

I'm hoping that there will be a detaunt strong enough to break a mob off an individual group member to drop the combat flag and allow armor dancing. As far as enemy players, I think, at least on the core ruleset servers, you'll know what sort of action you're facing (field battle, siege, scenario) before you enter the RvR zone, and thus will be able to select appropriate armor at the same time that you load out your morale and tactics. I don't think we're going to see such an enormous variation in stat bonuses as we have in other games, where it makes sense to don/doff in one battle. I think this will be taken care of more with mechanics designed with this in mind, such as buffs and auras.
For the Disciple, I expect that during large, poorly organized battles like open-world RvR, it will make sense to dual wield. In a more organized situation like a public quest boss fight or keep siege, it will probably make more sense to switch to the chalice for healing bonuses, since the pure melee careers will be on the same target as the Disciple, so the Disciple will not have to worry so much about her damage output.
I think that the Disciple's roll will be largely dictated by the prevalence of grouping with Zealots, since everything indicates that Zealots are going to be stronger main healers. If there is often a Zealot in the group or war party, the Disciple will be freed up to concentrate on melee and lifetapping.

Promoting NDA breaches is just as bad as being the one that breaches it. The fact that you are not bound by it does not change that.

Its been confirmed that chalises and a 2nd wep are optional and you can swap in and out of them when not in combat.
Chalice helps with heals and spells sword for raising ur heal value

I'm pretty sure you could swap anything in/out when not out of combat, I don't see how else the game would work if done otherwise.
Being unable to switch weapons while in combat would drastically effect a lot of career mechanics and make for overall gameplay to suffer.

If they balance the chalice and the extra weapon, then weapon swapping becomes a non-issue. If each one has it's advantage, then it becomes a matter of play style, choice, or situation. In other games you could swap out an extra weapon for a shield. You dps goes down, but your armor goes up. It becomes a trade off. They will probably limit the number of times, or give it a global cool down.
