Are the gathering skills going to depend on other crafting professions to make their items useful or will they be able to do things independent of other professions?
I.e. WoW example: mining lets you gather ore but you can basically do nothing with the ore unless you also have blacksmithing. The gathering profession of 'mining' here is basically just a money maker while blacksmithing is the actual process of crafting. Same with herbalism and alchemy. Skinning and Leatherworking.
Will gathering professions in WAR be self sufficient? If so, that would be awesome. :D

We really don't know yet.

Well there is an apocrathy skill and a cultivating skill and they stated on a podcast that the herbs you gather from cultivating can be used to make potions with apocrathy, so i would think its safe to say that at least some tradeskills are paired.
The only question is how many tradeskill slots will we be looking at?

They also said you would get ingredients for apothecary from butchering and scavaging. And whos to say cultivating is only used for apothecary, maybe you glow a plant that is very flamible and can be used for one of the siege weapon improvements. Or perhaps theres a poisonous plant you grow that makes a good weapon upgrade ingredient, or some sort of magical plant that you can craft into an armor upgrade for extra elemental resistance.

Oh don't get me wrong i'm fairly sure that everything will be used for everything to a greater or lesser extent, but mushrooms=potions seems a fairly obvious step to me.
I beleive the op was wondering about synergizing two different proffessions in order to be as independant as possible with his crafting, and i personally think that he can be quite easily if he picks a pairing like apocrathy and cultivation.

Unless bottles are crafted, but I'm kinda hoping they're not for obvious reasons.

Urgh, now that would be a crappy tradeskill.

Yeah, I'm sure you won't be crafting glass bottles for your potions. I feel 100% confident in saying that at worst you'll have to buy them, and at best the magically appear out of nowhere, because who wants to spend 5 gold on a freakin' set of bottles with a single freakin' use? No one, thats who.

Glassblowing tradeskill:
level 1: small potion vial
level 50: middle potion vial
level 100: big potion vial
level 150: humongous potion vial
etc
Yai!
Alternate version
Level 1: glass shard, use this to change your beard to "no beard with some bloody spots"
level 2: small potion vial
level 3: decorated small potion vial, does nothing but looks better
level 4: poison potion vial, with extra caps
level 5: explosive potion vial, for those nasty concotion, comes with extra cotton for transporting in your backpack
----
level 300: 7 liter giant champagne bottle, for those crazy wild parties!
Still does not sounds very exciting. So, yeah, I guess you buy your bottles unless someone think it is Warhammer-ish to have a Witch hunter glass blower

Remember that they said that you will be able to craft siege weapons so they may be some sort of resource gathering for it

Indeed it is pure speculation but I'd be dammed if they add the oh so generic mining/wood gathering professions for it

*Ahem* Crafting siege weapon improvements, not the whole weapon. But yes, I imagine you'll get upgrades for that from all sorts of things. Scavagery and butchery yeild many options for possible upgrades. Maybe put a bunch of bones fragments gathered from butchery into your catapult for some makeshift shrapnel, or the hide of some sort of animal to create a good ballista rope. Cultivating also has potential with such things as plants that are very flamable being used to enhance a siege weapon with elemental damage, or poisonus plants to upgrade defensive siege weapons that you drop on attackers for a nice little DoT effect.

Will be happy so long as the "gathering" skills are not solely gathering.
AKA the economy boosters.
Just hope every profession including the gathering profs. are able to create a few useful consumable items without depending completely on another profession.
