Can we put our minds together and compile information for White lion fans & newcomers about possibly the coolest and most interesting class in Warhammer? I don't know a lot about HE's in general, and I would like to learn more about the mighty warriors of Chrace. So any knowledge people have from novels ect, please add it here.

Can we start off with their homeland, their primary religion & belief, and how they become White lions (what did white lions do before they earned there status)? Then add more information once we have that?

Thanks in advance to anyone who contributes.

Allow me to copy&paste myself:

White Lions in general

Since the time of Caledor the first, the closest bodyguards of the Phoenix King were recruited from the wildest forests of Chrace. They are chosen by ancient rites, requiring them to prove their skill and bravery by tracking down a White Lion, one of the fiercest beasts to roam the barren mountains and dark forests. When they encounter one, they have to kill it in hand-to-hand combat and take their pelt for proof. Once they return, they fashion the pelt into a cloak as a sign for their valour and are given the opportunity join the Phoenix King's bodyguard.
Their favourite weapon is the traditional woodsman's axe of Chrace, a finely crafted weapon said to be sharp enough to cut anything in half with a single strike, be it man or tree.

Korhil, Captain of the White Lions of Chrace

Should you ever ask a White Lion who the mightiest elf in all of Ulthuan is, their answer would without a doubt be Korhil. His strength and stature are the stuff of legends, though he is by no means a lumbering giant, wielding the traditional weapon of the White Lions, the axe, with such grace and dexterity that it makes the movements of one of his fellow White Lions look cumbersome. Korhil is a very honest Elf with a noble bearing that has won him many friends among both Ulthuan and other nations. He is among the few that the Phoenix King Finubar trust completely and as such, he has made apperances as his personal champion on numerous occasions.
Korhil became Captain when his precursor was slain by Urias Posionblade, champion of the Witch King. When the bodyguard of the Phoenix King gathered to select a successor from their ranks, it was Korhil who was chosen. Having hunted down and caught the great lion Charandis, a poweful beast warped by tendrils of Chaos and having slain Saurios Nightblade, the leader of a Dark Elf attack upon Korhil's village and master swordsmans chooled by Assassins in Naggaroth, in single combat, his deeds spoke highly of him.
Korhil was given the Axe Chayal (meaning Lion's Claw), the traditional weapon of the White Lion's Captain and donned the pelt of Charandis, which had been enchanted by Loremaster Finreir and presented as a gift from the Phoenix King himself and protects Korhil from all kind of poisons. Wielding this powerful magic items, he leads the White Lions into battle tho this day.

Of course, that's only a short overview.

The White Lions were made the Bodyguard of the Phoenix King after the King's Convoy was ambushed by Druchii Assassins. A group of White Lions were nearby and stepped in, slaughtering the Druchii and earning the eternal gratitude of the Phoenix King

just to add to the above post, they evaded tons of dark elf agents on the way to the temple of Asuryan by their woodsmanship(?) evading them in the forests, I forget which edition it is but in one of the army books it states that they rival the wood elves in ability to maneuver forests.

While my 7th edition army book doesn't specifically state that they rival the wood elves they do have a special rule that allows their entire unit to move through woods without penalty.

Should a woodsman find a white lion cub during his initiation trial, he won't kill it - the Asur don't kill things for pleasure - but will instead rear it to become a fierce and loyal companion. War Lions, as they are called, can often be seen pulling chariots like those favoured by the lords of Tiranoc; providing the High Elf army with a terrifying assault weapon.

A nice little snippet in the High Elf book that's easy to miss is that a group of Dark Elf assassins tried to kill Finubar in 2307, IC. Korhil and the White Lions stopped them then hunted down the survivors in a pursuit across the rooftops of Lothern. None of the assassins made it out of the city.

Great info so far. Hope we can get some more! When did the White Lions learn how to fight with an axe, and become so different than their other High elven brothers?

the axe is just a normal woodcutters axe, that most of the people of Charce just typically use in everyday mundane tasks, so, when they intervened on the ambush of the phoenix king, they had their axes. From there after he went through the flames of Asuryan he wanted the white lions as his personal guard, and offered to get them the best of everything (equipment wise) and they said they wanted to keep their axes, i think thats either in the blurb posted near the top of the thread or if not I'm sure its in more than one edition of the high elf army book.

Let's not make the axes sound so mundane here! They're slender, elegant, but powerful two-handed Elven woodsman's axes, rumoured to be capable of cutting a man clean in two with one blow... although that last part will probably be toned down for the game. ;)

Gotta make a clear enough division between a White Lion's axe and, for instance, one wielded by a Dwarf.

Yeah, I think the White Lions have slowly upgraded their axes. I.e, when a Woodsman becomes a White Lion, he will either upgrade his current axe or get a new and better one.

Yeah, while it may be a woodsman's axe, its a High Elf's woodsman axe. Meaning the quality is going to be much higher then say a simple human woodsman's axe.

Then on top of that the player characters are the elites of the white lion's. Those that have reared up an actual war lion and are serving the King. They are going to be able to have the very best of craftsmanship. We have seen concept art of these axes in the latest newsletter. Hardly simple looking axes.

Since this a White Lion lore thread.

Anyone happen to know of any novels about White Lions, etc. that I could read.
Books just explaining stuff about them, and telling of great battles they were in, etc.

Thank-you
