The Ironbreaker i know is meant for tanking kids and taking huge amounts of damage. What about his damage side though? Will he be able to stand tough in a group and do some damage if there is another tank or will he be resorted to being an off tank? In world of warcraft the warrior could easily hold his own in damage done by dual wielding or using a 2h weapon, but in Warhammer all i heard is about how good of a tank an Ironbreaker is. My main concern is how well can an Ironbreaker do damage?

Just speculation, but I think the IB will primarily be used for stuns/knockdowns/etc. until he builds up enough grudge from guarding other targets.

Meaning at the beginning of the fight he'll still be useful, but his DPS won't gather much attention until later into the fight, if he survives long enough.

They'res a lot of speculation about tanks DPS and the honest answer is we won't know until Open Beta.

I'm just praying tank classes won't be shafted into a useless role in PvP.

If you so much as lay an eye on one of the ironbreaker's group mates he will hit you like a FREIGHT TRAIN.

So be in a group, and your damage will not be something to laugh at.

Here's an excerpt from someone who got to play the ironbreaker at a Gamesday

Ironbreaker – I put off playing the Ironbreaker until the very end. Why? Because I don’t like Ironbreakers. I don’t really care for Dwarfs. I’ve never really gotten into the whole idea of Grudges. A career described as heavily defensive typically translates to “A career that is heavily mocked by DPS careers”. However, before leaving PAX, I finally decided to bite the bullet and play one. Oh. My. Freaking. God.

I’ve never experienced tanking like this in any game, let alone a PvP-based MMO. The defensive capabilities of this career are mind-boggling, I can’t even begin to describe it. DAoC fans will be happy to know that Mythic has brought back the “Guard” ability, which splits damage between you and a targeted ally. Then there’s of course “Taunt”, which by itself is probably the most powerful defensive ability since the fabled-Bubble Hearth-but without the crap. Ironbreakers also have “Stances”, which I haven’t heard talked about. One of them increases Morale gain for your group, the other increases your defense. I’m sure there will be others, but I only saw those two. This is the first time in the history of MMOs, for me, where I’ve felt like tanking is as significant as healing in PvP, if not moreso.

To give you an idea of the Ironbreaker’s defensive power, myself and a Runepriest held our ground against a group of 6 Greenskins for several minutes before we finally went down. I have no idea where our group was, but there you have it. Razz And that’s without even touching on the Ironbreaker’s offensive potential. You’ve been told that the Ironbreaker’s gimmick is Grudge. This is a lie. The Ironbreaker’s gimmick is hitting like a freaking freight train if you so much as look the wrong way at one of his groupmates. Morale abilities included an attack that did either 4 or 6 instant attacks, depending on how close to death your opponent was (Your Time is Now, I believe), an ability that instantly gives Grudge points, an AoE attack that does heavy damage over 9 seconds, and a Tier 4 ability that basically made me all but invulnerable. Great, great stuff. "

Getting random people to start working as a group is easier said then done.

You don't have to "work as a group" you have to "be in a group". Abilities aren't based around what your group does, but what the enemy does. The ironbreaker and other tanks can take command of what the enemy does with the moves outlined in my quotation.

ya, i don't really care so much about the DPS of the Ironbreaker, long as they hit decently hard with a 2h. if they hit like a prot warrior in WOW with a 1h/shield, I will cry though. I want to be able to be the heavily armored CC class of the game, someone you need to deal with or you will be doing diddly squat for the fight. tuant/knockdowns/stuns/gaurd/ will all make me happy no matter what I can do for damage.

Check out this thread i started a while back, it explores the possibility of 'dps ironbreakers' and why it might work really well:

It was a joke. Y'know, 'cause "necroing" is forum slang for dredging up a thread that's been inactive for a long time.

And this one is almost 5 months old.

And chaos <3s zombies.

... I thought it was funny. =/

I played a warrior in WoW for well 4 years. I was a main tank for a guild and in my off time would respecc mortal strike and go around recking kids faces. Or running a 5v5 team which was built around assist training the MS warrior.

This class is no wheres near the powerful class of the MS Warrior from WoW in RvR. You have nice sustained dps often topping the damage meter. But you have no burst, you will not see big numbers. You will not get mortal strike. Guess what healers will heal through your damage, as you have no burst and no MS debuff.

If you are looking for the warrior class from WoW, keep looking this is NOT it. This is a tank class in RvR and PvE.

A very new idea to me.

I need someone to heal to me and I need someone to do burst dps for me. If you have those 2 things you become a beast......

Your job is to protect squishies. Not the primary assist, Not to kill ppl with big crits.
