I just got clear this out.
say i wanna make Potion A
i know i need
(this) main ingredient
and
[these] secondary ingredients.
i have to go out and kill X amount of mobs for getting all these things, how is that not grinding ?

Craft-grinding is what he meant. Wherein, you'd have to make a series of useless nonsensical items before you could be able to make the item you wanted. That won't apply here. You have the ingredients? You can make the item.

I suggest you look at crafting video again with some comprehensive skills. When Mbj refers to grinding he's talking about making xxx silly things you cant use/sell to level up skill. On the other hand, that part of the grind cant also be avoided IMO, but i was just pointing out that you got things wrong. And if you really want to avoid grinding in mat gathering process you can always take cultivating.

This^ Also, skill might determine potency of the item or something to that extent.

The second thing was that I didn't want it to be grindy. We've done grindy before. Dark Age of Camelot's system was less grindy than some of the games that went before it, but it still required lots of making of lots of items most of which also didn't sell for a lot. We did have various ways of selling it within the game so it would help your side's war effort. I didn't want either of those. So I looked at our systems, I looked at other systems, I looked at ideas I had and I came up with something that I think is kind of cool!

I was also a little confused on what he meant by "recipe" crafting. When he was saying you need "this" and These" to make "That". But I guess what he means is that you won't need to go find a recipe and "learn" it before you can make the item.

To clarify it for you, the below quote is once again taken from MBJ from HERE (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/warhammer-online/876916p1.html)
To start with, it isn't a recipe-based system. It's an experimentation system where you find ingredients and you make ingredients. You get to experiment with all different types of ingredients to make other things. If this was Apothecary, for example, you would start with a basic ingredient which is either stable or unstable. Generally they're all unstable in the beginning. You then add things to the potion to make it more stable. Then you add other things to the potion to give it different effects. You might be able to make an explosive potion that can last for two hours.
Let's say you are going into battle, and you want the biggest, nastiest explosive potion you can make. So what you can do is you can play around with the ingredients and make a potion that may only last 30 minutes but does double damage. On the other hand, let's say you're going out for a night of PvE and you might want to make that same kind of potion but you're going to out for four or five hours. You play around with the ingredients and you make a potion that's a little less powerful but it'll last an entire night.
