Ok I just read the May newletter . MPJ seems a nice bloke and I watched his crafting explanation.
Then after a little thought I wondered . Say I make some potion from all the gathered items and decide to put my surplus creations on the AH . Its a blue potion ....what do I sell it as ? A blue potion ?
Just say I'm the first to 'invent' this blue potion of doom ... do I get to name it ? If so , can I charge royalties  for anyone that sells similar product .
Yes, I know the idea is a bit tongue-in-cheek.
My point is , I know he states that this isn't going to be a recipe based system, but I forsee the likes of Allakazam or whoever quickly filling up their pages with posts on how to create this and that. So, in a matter of a short period of time we will end up with a near full list of 'recipes' by default whether we like it or not.
The WAR crafting idea promises to be a lot of fun , I just have concerns about killjoy sites like allakazam etc .
So , I wonder if MPJ can let me copyright 'Stiltskin's blue potion of Doom' :D?

Well, from what i can gather the main ingredient determines what type of potion it is, Healing Initiative, wounds, etc and the extra items add stability or power enhancing etc. so i'd assume the potions name would be defined by the main ingredient.
So, healing ingredient is healing potion. This, however is pure speculation as we don't know.

If you are worried about "killjoy" sites then don't use them. Its really a simple solution. If I decide to never view the site and you do, that doesn't effect my game or fun in anyway so its not a big deal. Keep in mind, there will be some ppl who look at this crafting system and think that it is not fun. I like it, but I'm sure there are players out there who prefere the recipes

it doesn't matter that there will eventually be listings of what makes what, the crafting system in war is another step towards realism and thats a good thing. Now if you could somehow write ingame books and publish them that contain recipies there would be no need for these sites at all..

I where just thinking about how cool it would be to write books in-game, nice for RPers, useful for notes, good for tips and trick for other players.
If that where added i would record my adventure and write history!

I dont RP but damn that is a good idea, seriously they could have some sort of library building in the major cities where people can share, store and read stories or whatever that others have written. Has this been discussed anywhere because it sounds suprising no-one else thought of it.

I don't really like the idea because player information can be misleading if not moderated, and there's way too many idiots who would write stupid things in these books in horrible typing styles "haha ur moms lolol".
Anyway on-topic I don't think there will be recipes that come out. It's not a recipe-based system, it's a random chance-based system. Yes the main ingredient will determine the type of potions but that's about it. From there it's all chance. You might use the same ingredients twice and get two completely different things.

Making recipes personal, such that ingredients have different effects per person (of course making sure the ingredients are of comparable rarity), would ensure people all have to put in a comparable amount of research/experimentation. I posted a more detailed description in this thread:
http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38190
. That way spoiler sites would have minimal effect. Too bad the thread got snowed under in the hundreds of "I want to keep running around for nodes" and "I want an X crafting career" threads, basically wanting to keep out any form of real innovation from crafting for WAR.

maybe in the ToK it would say who the original founder of this potion was and a cut of all of these potions sold will go to him, that is if! The founder pledges copyrights at some place where he can place copyrights (haha?)
Or maybe in fact as long as you have created the potion before hand and no one has pledged copy rights you can claim copyrights and your name will be labelled onto every bottle and you will gain a share of the profit in some way or form
