View Full Version : MBJs policing of Gold Farmers.

First off, I'm very excited with MBJs stance on crafting.
The point of the thread? Well, MBJs process to eliminate gold farmers (or at least make things difficult for them) seems efficient enough, but my recent experience with another mmo has given me some thought as to making it just a little bit more difficult.
I'm talking AoC resource gathering. Let me just add that I'm not an AoC fanboi...I'm just playing the game to tie me over until WAR comes out.
In AoC, if you go to the resource zones to farm, you have random mobs that spawn just to aggro you and take you out...and they pop at completely random times, and sometimes in numbers of 1-3 at your level.
This is great. And let me tell you why. I followed a suspected gold farmer the other day, and watched him die several times to these random spawns. Fighting in AoC is intricate enough that gold farmers need to have some skill to fight back....no auto-attack, combo's require timing and twitch gameplay...something your average gold farmer finds to be annoying.
So my suggestion...how about some random spawns to go in with the harvesting that are queued in whenever you are crafting and resource gathering. Surely gold farmers can't deal with mobs jumping on them every so often really slowing down the process.

i fail to see how anything in aoc requires skill, and i havnt noticed that gold farmers dont like killing mobs. infact its pretty much all they do is run in circles killing mobs, and speaking in chinese to you when you kill one the mobs.

recently, they droped some concept of crafting and that its not a recipe, or grind based system. you cannot craft, and craft, and craft, and craft for 16 hours a day. becuse of this the casual crafter will profit just as much as the farming crafter who does it 16-24 hours a day. becuse the casual and hardcore crafter will profit the same crafting will not be ideal for farming gold for real life money.

actually there is one thing that occured to me. farming in warhammer isn't kill the same mobs over and over again. farming is being involved in public quests over and over again. its not that you couldnt choose to farm the same mobs, its just that public quests will have better rewards, and they will probly scale better with skill due to the system.

The goal isn't to make farming harder, the goal is to not have the need for farming.

Maybe your definition of gold farmers differs from mine, or maybe we are suggesting 2 types of gold farming. My definition of a gold farmer is one that just runs mining and resource gathering paths.
And while AoC isn't a skilled based game per se, the combos required to do any real damage require some thinking, as opposed to button mashing (ie WoW). Let's not get into a skill and AoC vs WoW vs WAR debate. But if you would like to school me on what gold farming is exactly, then I am all ears. I may not have all my facts down straight...just some thoughts and a personal observation.

Making random spawns at resource nodes, such as what you suggest, is only necessary if there are resource nodes to collect from. Everything we have seen so far suggests that there are no resource nodes in WAR at all.
Every gathering skill in WAR requires you to kill something to then use your skill to get additional crafting related drops from the corpse, along with the regular "tabled" loot. The only possible exception I see in WAR is cultivating, which requires seeds and those seeds could possibly be laying around the world, they did however specifically state that mobs will drop seeds randomly and that they can be purchase (at least at lower levels), if there is some other way of getting seeds we don't know yet.

QFT ;)

as long as the economy is no big deal in WAR, meaning that you dont need money to be able to make stuff, it wont be a problem.
