After watching the recent podcast explaining crafting, it seemed like a new innovative idea, but then I realized that there are no recipies therefore nothing that tells you, you need this that and the other.

To the point! So what if you wanted to sell this potion to someone, what if they wanted to know how you made it? what were the ingredients?

This lead me to the conclusion players create their own recipies. When a player succeeds in creating a potion if he has a piece of [Parchment] he can then write this down, or an automation from the server records the effects of the potion and the ingredients needed.

Players can then name their concoction and voila you have a player made recipie, whoever created this recipie first can then claim copyrights whilst selling at a marketplace for instance like world of warcrafts Auction House. It could go down in your achievements in the ToK i.e. "5678th apothecary to create _______"

Now onto the library! Since these kind of things can be created wouldn't it be nice to go a step further? People could make compilations of their recipies and leave them to be rented at the library for small fees (the price is determined by devs ofc).

Onto the last part I was thinking of was books written in game by the players and placed in the library. There would be a small price to pay for renting the book. The books cannot be taken outside of the library. Also after someone has rented a book they are able to leave a recommendation on a scale of 1-10 of how good they thought it was.

The top 10 best rated player made books are displayed in a special area to show recommendation or something of the sort. I could go on for reams of pages but all in all I think this new crafting system opens up a lot of doors for the MMO world, thank you for reading :)

Great in theory but as long as the internet exists then people wont be willing to pay for anything in game. Just go on the thottbot equivilant and search up potions and you will get the recipes. I would love to see it in some way but I think it would be very hard to do.

I like the idea of the ToK unlocks and I think that Devs are already implementing that so we can rest easy on that note.

Thats why I thought up the idea of having an in-game library that contained the plethora of data the realm has unlocked. Its not like the fees are going to be anything costly even if you constantly rent out books.

The more unique recipies donated to the City Library the more things that get unlocked, maybe a passage way behind a large wall of books which leads to a dungeon of conspirators and cultists who have this "book" (the library theme still going heh) there will always be one of those sites that tells you what to do and where to go. Why not leave the players to write there own in game instructions, if the book has a good rating then theres a better chance what your reading will be helpful. Also (just thought of this now) there could be artists in game to provide pictures in the books to show the location being described. The better artist you are the clearer your illustrations become and therefore easier for the player to understand etc etc.

I remember Paul Barnette said there were a lot of "oh cool" kind on things in game. It would be nice to write a journal on where these things are and what fruition they behold. If you traveled with an artist at the time he could illustrate the scene you were at and then buy the picture to put in your book that you leave at the library for people to browse at their leisure.

Haven't you ever wondered around an MMO just reading things, looking around seeing what people have to say. The library could create those things only created by the players. Its like an archive of your realms personality.

I think this is a neat concept but it would be WAY too much work for the benefit it provides. It would be ALOT easier to just make a "recepie" page in the ToK to write down your own recepies. This could create a sort of share-market between the players in recepie trading.

One set of abreviation can solve your problem, ToK. When you make it once it is in your Tok and since you can view others you can see what they made and how they made it.

True but the idea is to tackle the problem of people just going off to those spoiler sites and getting all their info there, if you give players the oppurtunity to create their own data base which developes as the realm developes then it encourages a better community and society amongst the players in "theory"

If a newbie comes along and asks about something, the natural reply could become "make a trip to the library where a vast plethora of knowledge can be obtained" compared to its alternative "go on the internet newb"

Undoubtably this kind of concept will require a lot of work, but in the end it's a concept and it's nice to throw these kind of whackey ideas around, especially when most MMO couldn't really care less about community immersion and RP etc but it's about time devs began to think outside the box i.e. the WAR crafting system
