View Full Version : Thought on another Crafting Prof. - Scrolls/Artifacts?

Was thinking how having consumable 'spells' or 'special effects' might be interesting and add something extra to the war effort.. One-use Scrolls (or Artifacts perhaps if wanted to make it less 'paper' orientated) could work for that perhaps.

i.e.
Ressurection scrolls/artifacts (Ressurect an Ally out of combat, in combat)
Teleport Scrolls/artifacts (Portal to your Guild Keep, Capital City)
Healing artifacts/Scrolls (Makes a change from potions & lotions perhaps)
Damage artifacts/Scrolls (Some groovy special effects possible here?)
Enhancement Scrolls/artifacts (Increase that crucial Attribute or Skill)
Treasure artifacts/Scrolls (Maybe to track special Lairs or locations)

etc.. etc..

Being One-Use, Tradeable and craftable could make these interesting and stops them being over-powered. Through careful development could use the gathering skills perhaps (hence the alternative suggestion of calling them artifacts)

Anyways, just an idea thrown out there ;) Discuss?

It might add an extra twist to the whole thing, I agree, and they allow us to do things normal potions will not. Gotta remember to have a cooldown and perhaps some limit on quantity. Cast times, especially reasonably long ones might help too.

Not so sure about them being tradable either. Seeing chain ressurects on your whole guild during a keep siege might prove a bit much.

But overall, hell yeah, would an interesting idea and does follow the whole "crafting for war" trend.

Interesting idea. The ability to Rez is the only one that jumps out at me, as Tau said, I don't want to see a massive guild just give everyone a Rez scroll but if you give it a huge cast time or only make it out-of-combat, it might be pretty cool.

Shouldn't overlap with potions, tho. Not unless it does things very differently, like a potion being a HoT and a scroll being a DH or something. With some effort to flesh out could be very viable.

Yes, shouldn't overlap with apothacary but I was envisioning :-

Apothacary - self-based effects
Artifacts/scrolls - area effects or effecting others only.

I could imagine them being relatively resource-hungry, having long cooldowns or whatever to balance them out. They should be rarer and more expensive than potions/talismans but have slightly 'bigger' effect (being usable on others already guarentees this perhaps)

Seems exactly like apothecary to me.

Besides the resurrection and teleporting. Which I think should not exist.

Like oblivion.. yeah that would be cool, but in oblivion its not a profession.

You could also get every artifact / scroll multiple uses, like 3 or 5 (just another way to differ it from apothecary).
And as you said potions would affect the user, while this could effect teammates, or have an AoE effect.
If done this way I think it could be a great addition to the proffessions. Just have to make sure a. it will not be too simular to apothecary b. Has some cool / interresting uses (teleport and resurection is very special for instance, but as molnu pointed out they are not flawless, I think they could be implented though.
