Hi all, this is a question aimed at people who played guild wars nightfall.
As i've seen in different movies the SM looks alot like a dervish from guildwars.
He attacks like a dervish except then with a big sword.
Anyone else got this feeling?

No they used scythes, they got 1 skill where they were whirling and i didn't really find dot skills.

Not quite, the dervish was more dps based. The SM is a tank.

Having played Swordmaster at Games Day, and having played a lot of Dervish, I can tell you that the similarities end with the fact that they use two handed weapons, and have robes.

Swordmasters can take way more hits, wear heavier Armor, don't have any sort of Avatar form, don't work off an Adjacent target mechanic, and go off of stances. I think that some of their skills might hit adjacent targets, but I can't rightly remember. While I realize that Dervishes can take builds to tank, they aren't tanks by nature, and have to be careful with whom they engage, because they can't naturally take a beating like a Warrior can. Swordmaster, while physically less durable than the other Order tanks, doesn't seem to have that issue, and is still very resilient.

I have played a whole lot of Guild Wars, and no I do not think that Swordmasters sound like Dervishes much at all :

Dervishes wear medium armor and utilise abilities to heal & reduce damage.
vs
Swordmasters wear heavy armor and utilise abilities to debuff foes & avoid damage.

Dervishes use abilities in isolation or by consuming Enchantments.
vs
Swordmasters chain abilities through their Sword Dance mechanic.

Dervishes use a wide range of short duration / instant spells in the midst of combat.
vs
Swordmasters use a narrow range of long lasting weapon spells, ideally before combat.

Dervishes inflict very high melee DPS ( 2nd best in game ) with slow attacks.
vs
Swordmasters inflict medium-to-high DPS with many rapid attacks.

Dervishes can strike multiple opponents with each attack.
vs
Swordmasters can strike only a single foe unless utilising particular abilities.

Dervishes wear loose hooded robes with panels of leather armor, and sandals.
vs
Swordmasters wear fitted robes covered by metal armor, plus helms, gauntlets & boots.

I would say all they have in common is wearing robes, and even those are quite dissimilar upon inspection.
I am somewhat biased though - I hate playing as a Dervish ( find them so slow and disjointed in combat plus even a hint of lag makes PBAoE a misery ) but really want to play a Swordmaster. :p

The swordmaster is more like an awesome hybrid of the gw assassin and dervish in heavy armor :P
He uses the asssassins combo system. He got a few enchantments that increases his damage or protect him.
Finally he got fairly heavy armor (he is a tank afterall) and avoids damage by dodging (And using his sword / enchantments to protect).

I don't care anymore.
I'm rolling BG!
