This really really dissapoints me, I mean I want to play a melee dps class, but I don't like stances (marauder) and I dont like playing a chick I mean whats left? Pretending to melee dps with a tank?

Roll order, and it is true, why would Mark lie about something so gamebreaking for some people?

I must say I am very suprised over this decision. They are cutting out four melee classes and I hope for dear life that WAR wount turn into a ranged horror. I can't stand playing ranged classes for any amount of time, I just never find them any fun, but I guess those who are will have it easy in WAR now that they know exactly what to expect from the few melee classes that are left.

I have been so extremely positive up to this point, but I don't really know what to make of this. Hard to shake this of since I was looking forward to playing a Choppa and a Hammerer.

The only hope I have left is that this will mean that the classes that are left will be balanced and fun enough to ease the blow. And one can't help to wonder how the balance will be shifting between armies and realms.

I wount go out with anything positive, I don't think it's appropriate.

Guys, I know you're all disappointed, but keep it civil please.

Also, those funny guys thinking about gloating and laughing at the ones whose classes got cut? Don't. Seriously.

I for one find this a little exciting, it's highly unlikely that they'll leave these classes out for very long and that means Coppas will either get a nice new paint job OR we'll get a brand new and exciting toy to discuss!

Granted I understand why people who have been looking forward to playing as one of these classes for nearly two years now would be disappointed. But I for one would rather find out this way than wait till I have a fully leveled a character of one of these classes only to learn that it doesn't compare to the others in fun or viability.

I am disappointed. I won't lie: The Choppa and the rest were important to the game and losing them diminishes the game.

However, this is the first time that an MMO has came out and -apologized- for something that had to be done. They've been honest and straightforward from day one and that buys loyalty from at least me. I'm going to give the game a chance.

I'm disappointed, but honesty says a lot about the company. It says I can trust them with future decisions.

I just wanted to add that I was looking forward to playing a melee DPS class on both realms, both my favourites were cut. But the sad thing is that the melee DPS we're left with on each side is my least favourite one! Marauder just sounds horrible to me and I doubt I'll play one, ever. And again, it will be interesting to see how the balance will be at release.

And yes, my hopes are that they will release a patch with the classes that were cut asap, but did they say they will? I'd say that the dev's would be wise to release some sort of half-promise that this will be remedied for us that hoped for the promised game features.

And the single race/army guilds seem to be an impossibility now, if you want to be effective in combat that is. I guess melee DPS is not going to be a huge factor at all at release. Baah!

Still though, I truly believe in the game, but I can't see a reason to be all cheerful over news like this.

Jukebox Joe

If they don't get the classes patched in fairly soon after release the game is just going to be a ranged snipe fest. Oh well, at least now I can spend the first month or so of the game leveling a character I don't care about  This has annoyed me more than them delaying again.

Dam, Im seriously shocked by the news. Both Choppa and Black Guard was on top of my "NEED-To-PLAY List". Now, i have no idea wad to play, i hate ranged and Marauder don't have the WAAAAGH-ness of the Greenskins, so i guess Marauder's out. Witch Elves, i personally prefer male warriors or that sort, so i guess WE's out too.

I guess i have to go Blorc on launch.

Link please?

Because you know, the interview with Jeff over at MMORPG has him saying that whether the 4 cut classes will EVER be in is under discussion :) He "sounded" gutted and sorted of defeated as he explained that they (the devs) just couldn't seem to make those 4 classes fun. We know from lots of posts that Mythic aim to CUT anything not fun from the game, and have said so many times.

If they are not fun, and they have tried and failed to make them fun... well <shrug> I can see why they are under discussion then.

The capitals missing is a bigger blow to me. I can imagine a lot of people rolling Empire or chaos now, and leaving the other ones unpopulated. They are victory point grinding zones now with no other purpose until the cities come back in. I hope the 2 campaign to grab a single city is only a short term thing. If its in when all the cites are back... well I just hate it.

I've already written this elseware, but being a Choppa player it belongs here just as much.

The decision about capital cities...ok, it doesn't hurt and we can live with that.

But the decision about cutting 4 careers off at release is completely OUTRAGEOUS, and unacceptable to me as an already paying customer (that Collector's Edition I bought? ya...). I've respected and understood every decision Mythic has made with this game as I felt they knew what is best and it would still be a good game.

Now I'm EXTREMELY disappointed, and am going to say that you guys at Mythic are WRONG this time. In fact, I'm downright waffleed off, as now to play the class I would like to play I must be set back by several days/weeks/maybe even months when I'm in a competitive environment.

This is horrible, I can't say I respect or appreciate or even understand this decision. I've been a long time defender of this game, and have followed it's development for years, and this is the first time I've been downright ashamed to be a fan.

No official sources have said this. It would suck terribly if they made us PAY for a class that was promised on initial release. The 4 removed classes will be filled in for no extra cost, otherwise people will get pissed. Super-pissed.

I know there hasn't been a official source for tha tit's just my gut feeling and yes it would suck hard i they made us pay or it. While I can see them aking us pay for it, I picture more as something they deem as a "free expansion". Some marketing PR campaign to a massive download of the first expansion.

This is indeed disappointing news, but as was already said it is a good thing that Mythic came out with it now vs. after launch try to fix a broken class. Those of us from the game-that-shall-not-be-named know how bad it is when classes that are generally bad in pvp are made good, the balance gets completly thrown off.

As for me, I'm going to roll a shaman first thing with all the people going Borc, I'll get my healing in, help the realm, then make a chopper as soon as they are released.

Krulltak is probably Pissed, Wut da GORK.

I think its funny that everyone was supporting the extra polishing they are doing after the 2 delays but now the cant even fit the class in to the release. I've kinda changed my stance. After 2 delays why can't you fit the classes in yet!

How can they not include a melee DPS class for Orcs at launch?
It would be like Dwarves lacking a tank, or High Elves lacking a spellcaster.

It boggles the mind.

EDIT: Seriously, what happened to the WAAAGH, Mythic? There's one Orc class in the game.

I had so much faith in Mythic as a developer; while I can understand their logic in what they did, I'm still severely dissapointed.

Sorry to all those who got their classes cut...

Now naturally here on the Choppa subforum things are going to get a little emotional, but if I can squeeze in two cents here...

All things considered, 24 distinct classes is a tall order for any game-maker, and it's not entirely surprising they couldn't fit all of them in. It's unfortunate they had to cut a few, and it's gotta suck when your favourite is the one on the chopping block, but it's hardly like they cut Choppa to spite anyone. It was just a necessity - they didn't have the resources or time to produce the class for release. I'm sure if they never had to worry about deadlines or money, then yeah, they could produce the ultimate game it would indeed have the Choppa in it, but sometimes the realities of the world come crashing down on artistic vision and it's just too bad this is where the blow landed.

The Orcs'll be back to full strength eventually. No MMO gets it right their first time out, and no company, no matter how great, can avoid cutting content and cramping down on their expectations.

Exactly!! I remember being excited November of 07, such a pity that this game is gonna go into the bargain bin with so many other hype-fail MMO's. I mean by this time, they should just be polishing stuff up, not cutting huge classes, that probably make up about 25% of players choice.

07-11-2008, 03:28 PM
While a choppa was my primary choice i agree with their decision to not have a not even half good class in at release and instead add an awesome one later on.

I'll have to look into what else to play now. I'm looking at all the chaos careers at the moment...

What i wonder is - How many of the original choppa fans will play them when they are released later on?

Foofmonger
07-11-2008, 03:32 PM
I guess ironically, the Choppa just got Chopped.

:p

But on a serious note, if any class were to get cut, I'd count the Choppa/Hammerer out first (oddly enough).

I mean seriously, they were in the game years ago, and Mythic still hadn't finalized their mechanics.

Hopefully the Orcs will get a nice new shiny MDPS character. Orcs not having a melee oriented damage character is like Dwarfs not having beards.

Only 1 orc class? And no MDPS.

That seems like a downright travesty. The choppa looked great.

I have a feeling we are going to see our tank have a beefier offense tree than other tanks to make up for it. If I can't play Orc DPS, I am going to be very angry.

Strange that there will be more Dark Elves running around than Orcs. Last time I checked a Dark Elf cost twice as many points as an Orc.

I'm really not sure how it can be difficult to balance a melee DPS class for release. They're the most straightforward class possible.

This is not the bloody tabletop, it's an MMORPG where the population balance is decided by the majority's tastes. And sure as hell there would not be more Greenskins even if the Choppa was in. What are you thinking?

What I was thinking, which is obvious if you'd think for a moment, is that now there are only half as many Orc classes as there were before. It is quite likely that many of the Choppa players will go elsewhere, though it is possible that there will be a high Black Orc population from former Choppas/Black Guard.

The comment about point cost is not to be taken seriously in the sense that there would be any great population difference. Think, then post.

Wait, you feel *crushed*?

Dude, it's a game. How could you build a connection with a class with practically no exposure beyond the fact that they named it and dressed up a few Orcs for a handful of screenshots? I like WAR as much as anyone, but if something happens to the game that you don't like, don't treat it like a personal matter - the game is always subject to the development cycle, and that means sometimes things need to be cut. It's not personal when they cut features or classes, and it's not arbitrary or spiteful, it's just that they couldn't finish the class in time and make it good for release. Not that they don't want to, just that they can't.

Yeah, it's too bad the Choppa was cut, and hopefully they'll try and make up for it or balance it out somehow, but let's no go overboard here. It'd be like writing one of those huge "I quit because of X" threads you see littering the official forums of other MMORPGs.
