When you think of the Dwarf army what do you think of? What things inspire your imagination when you think of the Warhammer Dwarfs?

Personally, I'm gonna be honest and say that when I think of the dwarf army, I think of their slayers. They are gritty, fearless, and most of all fierce in combat. A good representative of the dwarf race for such qualities, no? :P

I think of large, stone halls and ancient kings with long white beards on golden, rune-encrusted thrones. But to me, Slayers are another kind of dwarf (which makes sense :) ) and fit into the whole dwarf 'genre' differently.

When I think Dwarf Army I think of desperate last stands in magnificent fortresses, a hundred dwarfs against 1000 greenskins and that's on a slow day!

Dwarfs are fantastics enginer, with Big Gun (Canon or pistol)
Dwarfs can handle wound and rarely run away in front of great danger
A Dwarf army is the reflect of their fortress, strong & massive
They also have short leggs, special sense of humor even more true after some Bugman XXX.
They hate Greenskins and get grumpy when a long ear is around.

Voila

I think of a solid line of Ironbreakers advancing upon the enemy with a unit of ferocious Slayers tearing through enemy ranks. I can see Gyrocopters flying over head being driven by engineers - dropping bombs upon all the orcs below! : ) As well know that Dwarfs are the best crafters/engineers in the old world!!

I see rune inscribed axes and a lot of blood! I see mountain holds and a grim detirmination reflected on every dwarfs face.

Viva la Dwarf!

The words that come to mind....short, fearless, tough as nails, extraordinary constitution, no-nonsense, fearless, beards, runes, better armor and weapons than the rest, excellent stonemason and metalsmiths, gruff, respects tradition, hates orcs.

I think of strong, defiant defenders of their homes. Airhships and gyrocopters dropping powder kegs on the enemey. Steam tanks rumbling by blowing hot oil all over the enemy. Orange haired Slayers takin names and kickin butt.

A great opponent for Greenskins.

Mobile castles. Slow, tough, hard to penetrate, and with ruddy great big guns sticking out.

Strong, fearless, stubborn, honor-bound, tough, unforgiving.

A beaten and bloodied but unbroken proud race clinging to the last of their ancestral halls as hordes of greenskins and skaven close the noose.

I always imagine a tough as nails Dwarf Lord directing his Ironbreakers and Longbeards from a GrudgeStone in the last defense of the Hall. While I do love slayers they are not as common as many people would like.

As for Slayers I imagine a lone slayer caked in gore standing defiant in front of (insert tough baddie here) Alone but unafraid defying the gods one last time.

I think of their huge, indestructible, finely forged halls and armors, their sturdiness and stubborness that reflects what they build. They have always been my favorite race, a race that builds to last, a race that cannot bring itself to produce anything half-assed, a race that is serious in their honors and respects (Though, unfortunately, other races don't take them as seriously).
They are smiths, known for what they craft just as much as how they fight. They are explorers, braving the deepest and darkest of caverns, driven onward by greed and curiosity to go onward. They're stout, grudgebearing Dwarfs, by Grimnir! And the Dwarfs in Warhammer are about as stereotypical as it gets. Just the way I like it.

Though Slayers do reflect alot about Dwarfish nature, I don't think they properly embody what I see in Dwarfs. It's sort of the same feeling I got when I read The Hobbit, which included Dwarf adventurers who weren't above using bows and swords. Nothing's wrong with any of that, but it's not what comes to mind when I think of a Dwarf! :)

Ordered disciplined ranks of dwarfs who know each and everyone of their roles in the battle and how to best accomplish it. It's like a great well oiled warmachine that methodically performs to maximize efficiency and accuracy (to compensate for their usual stolidness) in excuting its tasks in the dwarf structure of command while minimizing losses in the interim.

The common motto I've found to best describe Dwarf armies is simply...

"Outnumbered and outgunned but never outfought."

"Outnumbered and outgunned but never outfought."

I think that sums them up splendidly :)

They smile at the thought of death. Because they know they won't go down alone no matter what. They will bring down as many foes as possible.

They are always (ok often) the underdog. I usually picture a standard battle of Dwarves vs. Greenskin with a wave of infinite Orks and Gobs clashing against a tiny pocket of Ironbreakers, at the feet of immense pillars in a nameless Hall.

A race that knows its slowly disappearing but refuses to give up the ghost. They're tough as nails and never forget anything ever done to any of them. Loyal, drink loving, orc cleaving, hall building, beard covered stunties. God bless 'em. :D

I've never been a huge fan of slayers. The image is awesome but I never saw a unit live past the first turn or so. Ah well they wanted to die anyway.

Viking-inspired weapons and armor, horned-goggle helms, chainmail tunics, rune-etched great axes and hammers.

Fearless, durable, and grim fighters.

Just and honorable to deal with.

Vast wealth. Piles of gold and gems.

Live in incredibly carved stone halls under the mountains.

Fortresses, cannons, bunkers, guns, excellent engineers, and just general bad-assness

I think of being shot for 3 turns while I advance on my enemy to engage them in combat only to have them dance out the way...

I think of stubborn resolution to make those who owe pay...

I think of an overdeveloped sense of honour...

I think of the slayer going toe to toe with a dragon and winning...

I think of financial greed...

I think of big beards...

I think of axes, lots of axes...

I think of numerous little tanks walking forwards with armour covering their bodies...

I think of beer in the great halls with stories of triumph being told...

I think of taking an orc, cutting him in half and then going after his whole tribe, simply because they are there...

a pair of flame cannons when the misfire dice are kind. . . and the smell of burning orc in the morning.
