"All gathering professions are needed for all crafting professions."

So any.

Yes i can see that all the gathering professions will be used by the Trades but growing mushrooms does not seem to go along with the creation of a talisman.

Salvaging and the like sound more like what would be needed in order to create a talisman and something that would not be needed to create a potion.

Crush the mushroom into powder that gives +10 balistic skill on an amulet for example?

I guess that would make sense but seems really out of place to me, guess we will have to wait and see.

I personally think it will be along the lines of ye olde spell casting, eye of newt and all that where some ingrediants wont be part of the finished product, but are 'consumed' in the enchanting process. So whilst not needed for the item itself, i would imagine they are needed simply for the process.

Moved to Talisman Making.

If you watch the crafting podcast, he clearly says the most important gathering profession for talisman making is magical salvaging, since talismans need to be imbued with magical properties.

Secondary would probably be scavenging, for the trinkets and stuff to make the physical talisman.

to me I associate Magical Salvaging with TM, and Cultivating and apothecary. However then I run into the problem of the other 2 gathering skills. I suppose I can think of different uses for them, Bones for talismans; bone marrow, blood etc. for apothecary. and I suppose just about anything could be gathered via pick pocketing the dead. (their dead and done need it anyway)

Edit: I also think that it would be advantageous to make friends with someone who has the less popular butchering/scavenging so that you may trade raw materials to get more variety in your creations.

Has there been any confirmation that crafting is even in at launch?

They would have announced it if it had been cut. That being said, I would love a game with no crafting.

this is how i see the crafting skills working

talisman making:
magical scavaging - most important

talisman making:
magical scavaging - most important, breaking weapons to gain their special properties
scavanging - important, getting items (gold tooth, rings blah blah) to add to the main ingredient

apothocary:
cultivating - most important, you need your plants to make your potion
butchering - important, nothing like adding some bat blood or orc eyeballs to give your potion that little extra kick

*all speculation

I personally believe Buffnita is right on top of the topic here.. as much as each crafting skill will need each gathering skill, I believe butchering and scavenging will be used moderately by everyone, but salvaging will be used primarily by talisman making and not much by apothecary and vice versa with cultivating.

Oh, Mel. Come on now.

Just don't craft. Mark Jacobs isn't making you craft - not yet, anyway.

I'd love a game with good crafting.

I may not, well see how important it is to have the pots or talismens. I certainly wont be grinding for it.

There might be some magical essence in a particular mushroom needed for making a talisman. You never know

This is the way I imagine it too.
I will be going scavanging/TM only because I feel like I will be given the chances to scavenge more often than I would find a magical item.

I would rather have 2 gathering crafts IMO, to sell you ppl that have TM or w/e not much into crafting but i dont mind selling to earn a Lil Cash :)

i think you got it right. Would be nice to be able to have two gathering skills with one crafting... but yeah. I hope there is some insentive to taking Scavenging over TM.

so far i've found a few Talisman items. One blue one purple, the blue was some dice and the purple was a family signet thing. *shrug*.

I seriously doubt this will ever happen. They stated many times, there should be no real economy, and Tradeskilling was to be focused on RVR usage, like the potions and whatnot.

Never know though.

Coming out of the PW I seemed to get a lot of water and herbs for Alchemy and also seeds and watering cans for cultivating through my savaging.

I received a couple trinkets for TM that had no sale value, so I had to destroy them.
