In the new "Armies" section of the official WAR site, they mention a "Book of Grudges".

I was thinking that could be a cool and fairly simple thing for them to put into the Dwarf user interface: an automatic Book of Grudges.

You can put people in your book in several ways:
1) Target them and do a command (like "/grudge Owes me money"). This command can be done on friends or enemies.

2) Toggleable / automatic: An enemy kills your groupmate (grudge note: "Killed [ally name] in battle of [location], [date].")

3) Toggleable / automatic: An enemy kills YOU. (grudge note: "Defeated me in battle of [location], [date], [random excuse, e.g., probably cheated, sun was in my eyes, etc].")

Grudges of this nature do not have any real game impact (or do they? dwarven racial bonus? extra damage to people you have a type 2 or 3 grudge against?).

Rather, they show up in the UI next time you see this person. Perhaps they have an asterisk beside their name and a mouseover reveals the grudge note.

Type 2 and 3 grudges will be automatically deducted once you kill the target. You may have multiple grudges against one target, so it won't be cleared until the count reaches 0. They killed 10 of your buddies, so you have to kill them 10 times to get even.

There could additionally be records like:
Worst enemy -- whoever you have the most grudges against, currently
Nemesis -- whowever you've had the most total grudges against, counting ones you've fulfilled

These two could have their names show up in a different color or something, whenever you come across them.

I like the idea, the only thing I can think of is trying to find something comparable for the other races.

Wow that's awesome, you could put in custom grudges like if somebody scammed you, too! Once you've served your self-justice, you can then tick them off your book of grudges. It's a great idea, although I don't think it should be exclusive to Dwarves, but as an international UI tool for all races.

If not automatic then it's certainly an admirable undertaking for a dwarf player, or a dwarf guild for that matter.

For example a guild, let's call them "Bugman's Beermen" has an officer whose job it is to keep the guildhold's Book of Grudges.

In it he keeps:

Enemy Guilds and the reasons why the Beermen hate them, defeats by them, nefarious deeds, etc.

Enemy Players: notorious for pvp victories against guild members, heads of enemy guilds, loot ninjas who crossed the guild, etc.

and

TRAITORS: People who have betrayed the Beermen in some way or another, and have been branded a traitor and booted from the guild to be scorned whenever seen (or if PVP allows you to free for all in any instance - KILL THEM), this can also be applied on a large scale to guild alliances (example: the 'Black hammer Boys' shaft their allies 'Bugman's Beermen' the Beermen brand them as traitors and all guild members are to have no dealings with any Black Hammers, and indeed publically insult them and spread new of their treachery.)

It's one way for a Dwarf guild at least to remember their history, clearing grudges is a matter for the guild leadership, maybe by decsively defeating an enemy the grudge of a defeat can be erased, or a Traitor makes an honest and convincing effort at forgiveness for their crimes against the guild.

The automatic part is cool, but the dmg bonus etc sounds exploitable :)

Stone and Steel has always kept a Book of Grudges, throughout many of our games, such as WoW. We've always kept it private and only available for guildmates to view it. Not anymore....we're going to let our enemies, and former allies, know we have a grudge out for em.
