What is your opinion on this way of talking over the Internet?

Mine is plain and simple: I detest it. Neocron's what did it for me... No one should be paying a monthly fee just to go online, lose a (admittedly fun) fight and then have "haha pwnd u n00b" assault their senses.

Where did this language come from? It's not elite, it's an excuse for the illiterate. I want someone to type to me in numbers about as much as I want to have a conversation in Swahili - I won't understand either.

And it's always typed by the ones who LIVE the game. The ones who don't have lives outside of their tiny little worlds where they invent imaginary girlfriends who mysteriously have the same name as what they call their computers by.

Now don't get me wrong, I have no problem with net abbreviations, some people find them convenient (though I can touch type scarily fast so I type normally even over MSN), such as u instead of you, and 2 instead of to. You get the picture. It's just the morons who seem to believe every letter and word can be replaced with a series of numbers and symbols that get to me.

Now my rant's done. What do you guys think of this language?

There was a point in time when 1337 served it purpose. It was a means of differentiation, if though an obfuscated medium, from the internet and technology newbies. Unfortunately, like with all codes save the Navajo language, it was deciphered, codified, simplified, and resold to the general masses. In all honesty, it bothers me a whole hell of a lot less than messaging language. Typing "2" or "l8r" to me shows a lack of ... consideration almost, for their own and other's intelligence. There are times I do it, and understand its use however offensive it is to my sentiments.

Regardless of my sentiments as expressed above, although I do with only the greatest of rarity, I can read and speak three different variations on the 'language' as segregated based upon complexity. It is therefore that I mark myself as "Speak it."

I hardly understand it, and neither do I understand the point. It just looks so... retarded, really. It may be 'elite', but I mostly find twelve year olds using it, usually to shout OMG n00b!!!1111 at random people for no particular reason.
So, I voted 'learn the alphabet'. I would even go further and add '...and some manners' to that, but hey, that's just me.

I don't have a girlfriend and I still voted 'learn the alphabet', though I must say I guess it isn't all that bad when people choose to degenerate themselves in such ways. I mean, it only makes it plain for other people to see you wouldn't like the guy anyway, and so can go ahead and ignore him. After all, what's the difference between 'Pwnd u n00b' and 'kicked your , rookie'? I even find the latter slightly more insulting.

Sometimes it can be funny, though not when it's abusive or spoken in seriousness.
Kids that type in some weird illiterate mix of leet and txt speak I dislike.

Leet speak started as a kind of code hackers used to avoid what they were saying to each other being seen and read by the FBI in America i read in a book. Obviously the code was broken easily enough but the coolness to kids of being able to talk like a hacker caught on and we have the situation we have today. Now thats just one explanation i read but it seems ok to me.

Learn to live with it. I personally dont mind nor speak it, but I dont think less of people who uses a couple of words from this so called "language". As long as they stay off RP-servers, then screw that, let them speak how they want.

I dont think I have ever met anyone in my 8 years of mmorpg experience/11 years of online gaming experience that speak it like

To be honest, the whole point of it is retarded when used within MMORPGs. I mean, who's gonna waste a minute typing '4|-||-||-||-||-||-||-||-||-||-||-||-||-||-|! 4 /\/\0|\|573R! R|_||\|!' when they could just as easily say, "Ah, A Monster, Run" Thus enabling them to run, and not get gobbled down by a gargantuan Manticore, mutated by chaos to have six heads, and thirteen tails.

I only ever speak leet, if it's provoked, which means I only ever speak leet, strangely enough, if giggles speaks it to me first or to the general public. As for immature 13 year olds, well, find me a mature thirteen year old. Then I'll read the rest of your comment. Actually, I just did, and the word 'disquilfy' made me laugh quite a bit. Is that what you do to Hedgehogs and Echidnas, diquilify them? Awesome. That word needs its own forum.

Wrajjt, I dunno. If I see someone write a 'Hello, I'm new here' post in leet, I'm gonna think they're pretty damn stupid and immature. I would point you towards a poem written by a few forumites in the writers corner, and would include a bit of a history lesson with it, but I'm too lazy. Just know that people who refuse to spell properly, or who write in leet, suck.
