I've been floating around the boards this evening and I see there's a lot of misconception about what's happening today (Friday the 15th) and some additional concerns.

Firstly let me just get it out of the way:

Today is not the start of Open Beta nor Preview Weekend. You will have advanced notice to these dates and as of yet we have not announced them. The only thing occurring today is that later on we will be activating all Pre-Order (CE & SE) Open Beta and Head Start codes (hold onto all of your codes though!) This is the first step in preparations towards hosting a live environment and the pre-launch events ahead.

Concerning Preview Weekend:

All CE testers who have applied a code will be invited to preview weekend, regardless of computer specs or association. Please realize that this means there is no assurance that everyone invited can in fact run the game. In addition to CE all current closed beta participants will be participating in Preview Weekend and as an added bonus up to the first 50 thousand SE Open-Beta accounts registered on the Mythic Account Center will also be invited to join us for this stress test extravaganza!

Concerning CE Items and the Head Start:

The answer will be obvious once you see it in action, but for now let me try to explain. Players will be able to create and play their head start characters, however, during the headstart they will not have access to the in game bonuses provided with the collectors edition. Once a CE product code is associated with their account they will be able to use them post launch, this includes everything from the exclusive faces to the cloaks and everything included within the CE. Any characters created during the head start will have access to the exclusive faces. However, they cannot change their face until the CE Product Key is entered.

So you'll create a character with the standard create a character options. Then once you've entered your CE Product Code you will have the option of changing your face to the CE one for your race. Like I said, it will make more sense once you see it.

What is this new "Mythic Account Center" and is it different from the Beta Center?

The Beta Center and Mythic Account Center are separate tools. In preparation for live we are phasing out the Beta Center. The new Mythic Account Center (current Dark Age subscribers are already familiar with it) will serve as your portal to all your Mythic subscriptions. If you have not done so already you do not need to apply a code to your Beta Center account, all invitations will be handled via the Account Center.

I dont understand one thing, if we cant use the heads from CE upon creation, then whats the point of having CE and actually utilizing the CE? Unless we can switch heads even after we have created our characters and have taken advantage of the head start.

Yes I think this needs answered soon to stop this concern. Whats the point of getting them if we cant use them. I am glad to see that they are preventing the SE people from obtaining CE stuff though. Although I will rest easy I am very confident they will allow an avatar recreation(atleast 1) for each toon to combat this and not have a bunch of people wondering if the heads are gonna be worth it and risk wasting a few days of one of our bonuses.

I'm slightly irked by this, we can use the headstart but not have any of the CE benifits during the headstart so say i want to use the additonal character head on my primary character, then i can't create my primary character during the headstart because i wont be able to access the CE head until the game goes live.

This is my first actual gripe about WAR since i heard about it almost 2 years ago. I hope this is the only i one :/

i run a 2.4Gig MB with 2.5Gig rama nd a GeForce 8500 and I get 5-15 FPS in any raid zone or city with more than 10 players in it....don't tell me wow is coded will its got one of the WORST Memory leaks in any game i've ever seen... Memory useage increase of upwards of 7Mb per second.

Hopefully, they'll at least have a way for you to reselect your character's face if you have preordered the CE. I assumed that the people who preordered it and had CE codes would have access to the special heads right away. :(

Lol...it's coded extremely well now. Back in release, it was total chaos in cities like Lagforge.


As for the topic, WHO CARES if we have to re roll after release? Wouldn't you all rather look unique and unlike anyone else in the game (for the most part)?

So that's two and a half off the top of my head that allow you to change your appearance. The only one that doesn't--that I can think of--is WoW.

Boy are we all picky lately. be gald that you get achance to play this wonderfull looking game. Jsut be gald you can play before thousands of people can. I ordered the SE supposedly I will get access into the OB as well and I have the heastart code too. It says so in the description.

Pretty much all you can do. The vast majority of Beta testers who have said anything about GOA's service in game have said that it's amazing and far far better than DaoC so as long as they do get us everything on time with regards to actually being able to get in and play i'll let them off being later with other things.

Well I just tried it at 0814 cst, which is 0914 est, and it didn't work. However I'm no longer getting invalid code for my Open beta code, I am now getting can't be used yet. That is a positive sign if I have ever saw one.

It doesnt say items, it says rewards. The face thingy is a reward and they specificly say that you wont be penalized by creating a character during the headstart, meaning you will be able to change your face even after character creation during the head start to choose the "reward face" and not be penalized, "due to not having your key during the headstart"

Live game head start will not be the preview weekend. The preview weekend was something they added recently, and occurs sometime after CB closes and OB opens. Not everyone will have access to the PW - only CE pre-orders and the first 50k SE pre-orders that register their key in the account center. Note this is for NA only at the moment - don't know about Europe.

You should really do some research before going and calling a bunch of people intellectually challenged. The head start code is for the head start, meaning people who preordered get to play the retail version a few days before the official launch and keep their characters.

" Begin your adventures in the Age of Reckoning before the raw recruits arrive! As a pre-order customer, you'll get access to the live servers before the game officially launches to help lead your Realm to victory."

The preview weekend is something completely different. They haven't released much information, but it seems like it's going to be similar to WoW's stress test.

Personally I have been playing the closed beta for over a month; so I am not to worried about Open Beta or those things. All I am waiting for now is Head Start so I can play for real hehe. The downside to playing the beta is that you know you have to start all over again; and I just get sadder about that fact the more I play. Everything I have seen so far is great and getting better with each patch.

My only concern is server up time after launch. Simply because I believe they could suffer from some of the same problems as WoW did; too popular for it's own initial capacity. But if something like that arises I love this game enough to stick with it as they iron out the problems. The game itself is superb and I am sure most of you won't be disappointed when you final get to play :)

Sadly, it seems likely that we will be looking at a few hours more yet, after all they need time to make sure everyones awake and stands an equal chance of getting in as one of the 50k. I assume they expect people who work for a living to be able to check the internet reqularly. Sadly my job means I'm in a sterile enviroment and will be unable to so I guess it's likely that this has been another wasted morning for myself :(

Lets say we are allreaddy in tier 2 by the end of the headstart. I hope we wont have to backtrack to tier 1 just to do the quests and gain the rewards that might be obsolete by then? :-?

I also dislike the idea of changing my head later on, instead of beeing able to pick it from th e start. It makes it harder to get attached to your character.

So just wanted to try and clarify some info.

So what happens if you have CE codes but a regular edition? Will it let you into the beta and such but then not give you the bonus items? Or if you have SE codes but pre-ordered the CE?

Just wanting to get a layout on what the specific differences is and how it sets up the item unlocks for when you enter the different codes and what happens if you enter codes for a version you don't have?
