Offensive/Defensive Linemen are considered the "Warriors in the Pit", they are the first to feel the attack and the first TO attack, plus they protect whoever is behind them. BUT they aren't praised as much as the other players like quarterbacks, runningbacks, receivers, linebackers, etc..... hell even a kicker gets more notice than a lineman does.
But they are, if not more, just as important as other positions... they are what keeps the team safe from harm and free to attack freely.
I believe this is how an ironbreaker will play. Just like a linemen protecting his QBs and backs, the ironbreakers will be protecting his healers and dps. We wont get as much praise as the other classes as all we do is protect em from harm. But without us, there is no them.
Sound accurate?

As a healer, I will thank my lucky stars to have a tank present in RvR, and personally, I think I'll thank the good ones and give them a little more priority than other allies. DPS classes may not find them as synergetic in large-scale RvR.

You're technically right. Here's a correlation to archetypes if you want to take the metaphor further:
Tanks - Linemen, absolutely. possibly also a fullback or a blocking Tight End. Mostly what these guys do is protect, soak damage, distract, push, pull, and break lines.
MDPS - These are your recievers and running backs. They score the points, get the big numbers, make the plays. They rely heavily on the tanks to punch holes and cause havok to open opportunites for them.
RDPS - Also recievers and running backs, but add in a bit of recieving tight end. RDPS give up a little bit of damage for utility, plus range, so they might be snaring, AoE or laying traps. Also quarterback/coaches b/c they can see the wide view of the battlefield from range.
Healer/support - These are your quarterbacks and coaches, as well as trainers, waterboys, and support staff. They must be protected by all the tank/dps, and if they do, you score some BIG numbers and last for the long plays. Also, because of their range, they have a good view of the battlefield, so they can tactically call out "plays" if you will.
All this is generalized, and some classes are a bit of more than one. (warrior priest being more of a lineman quarterback)

Seems about accurate, and I think it's fitting that I played Offensive Right Tackle/Defensive End in high school. <3 Football, <3 WAR

So if what you say is true...does that make the High Elves our cheerleaders? Do we get to liquor them up after the game and look up their dresses?

For a more war perspective.. Tanks, infantry, the core of the army, the bulk and the main force, lacks mobilityMDPS, cavalry, they are smaller in numbers, but are very fast and can flank, attack from rear and attack vulnerable archers-RDPS, archers, they are weak, but can attack from range without moving, they provide the incentive for the enemy to engage your bulk, and make you pay for unorganized chargesHealers, Banners, musicians, command, they keep morale up and prevent your army from breaking apart and routing, give you lasting power.
