so yup, if you read the guide that came with the OB client or posted on the front page of the forum you'll see that there are crafting levels. Basically you need a higher crafting level to use higher level ingredients

Well you can't expect to make the best thing ever right away. Without crafting levels, crafting would be completely useless. You could drop a profession, and then pick up another one, make the best item, drop it, and go to something else...
Levels are there for a sense of progression which is required.
It's not grindy, I promise. You don't have to make 100 of the same item. Worse comes to worst you might make a similar item up to 20 times, but you don't NEED to.

*edit* kinda read that wrong.
does your rank (level) have any relation to your crafting level. or are people going to be able to park a lvl 1 alt infront of a mailbox and pump out rank 40 potions for their main?

As far as I have seen there where no rank requirements for ingredients and containers, just apothecary skill requirements.
However, it is possible (and likely IMO) that this will change.

Level 25 as in Rank 25 (your classes Combat Rank)
or as in Skill 25 in your crafting skill?
if its your crafting skill..then you are doing something wrong...try some harder potoins ect (but even the skill 1's can get you above 25 just not one for one anymore)
if you are at Combat Rank 25 then yes, you are done.... they dont want you to play to the end game and know everything before launch. If you were not in some hand picked groups to play higher levels then you cant get above that till sept 18th :p

I was able to get to 43. I found that continuing to use level one ingredients did not increase your level. I ran out of ingredients at level 15-25 and they are not for sale. I also found that you have more of a chance of getting a skill by making riskier potions. Adding 2 cloudy waters guaranteed success, but no skill. One cloudy water made it probable and skilled more often. I was really hoping to get to 50 because I had alot of 50 level ingredients and waters but I just wasnt gonna happen with level one ingredients and cloudy water.
Getting ingredients will be key. Scavenging got lots of waters and main ingredients and soils (for cultivating). Butchering got main ingred, ingred, and seeds. But you cant do both so... You need friends

I got up around 60 or above with the Apothcary skill. It was mostly due to having Scavenging and getting loads of higher level water and ingredients off orcs, goblins etc.
As your skill rises you have to try riskier brews and use higher level ingredients I think.

I got stuck in the 40s then i noticed you could use a higher lvl main ingredient if you use better quality water stacked to balance the potion thus making it a high grade potion. Only then did i get past those o so irritating 40s.
