He forced 16x AF and 4x AA and 1920x1200... I think even if any of us can run it with those settings you wouldn't do it during RvR.

A nice SLI or crossfire setup should be able to handle it, although rvr might be a bit of a strain.
Tone down the AA/AF and it'll run fine on a single card.
Looks fantastic, nice to see what this game will look like for me.

You should be able to run it on fairly high settings, although full AA/AF might be a stretch.
I wouldn't be worried at all though, that PC is more than up to par.

Yeah the skeletons were kind of lackluster.
The environments seem to be the most beautiful/graphically intensive. I guess it's a good idea considering that the environments are static, whereas player models may need to be watered down so that many can be displayed at once.

Thing is you need really high resolution for texture to look that sharp. So you need a 24 inch monitor for 1920x1220 or 22 inch for 1680x1050.

Almost identical to what I have but I have 3.16GHZ and 8600GS. Its gonna be great looking. We won't be playing with full AF or AA thought, but might be able to turn it on for some pretty pictures. My monitor won't do more than 1200x768 though =( It is a 42" LCD though so its all good.

A 8600GS is nowhere near as strong as a 8800 GT. You can't compare the two of them, the card you got is not really good for gaming.
By the way, does the game take advantage of quad-core systems?

LOL,, I was just about to post the same thing, hehe. I have a 8800GT as well and had a 7900 GT in it before getting the 8800.. My cousin has a 8600 GS, now the 8600 GS is crappier than my old 7900 GT.. I sold my cuz my 7900 gt for less than he paid for the crapola 8600..
Now, to people that don't know how to buy video cards, just because its a 8500-8600 series doesn't make it's performance better than a 7800-7950 GT.. When purchasing vidoe cards, make sure you get the high thousand numbers like 7800-7900, 8800,8900, and make sure it's at least a "GT" etc.. Don't and I repeat DONT get low to mid thousand series like 7300,7600,8500,8600 etc..
As of those graphics, I think most look very good. Although, I do have a problem. I really don't like how most classes have that sort of keltic/samurai leggings.. Dwarves, High elves, dark elves, even humans have it.. It makes me believe that mythic only rendered a few different styles of armorfor ALL races. If you take a look on the cinematic video, the dwarf wasn't running aroud with a samurai dress was he??? NO!
I really hope to see the "actual legplates" for all races and the samurai/kilt looking armor only on mages and some priests.. Ironbreakers, Swordmasters, Shadow Warriors, and White Lions legs shouldn't be looking half samurai half like la de dah kilt wearing scottsmen. That's one thing that will really upset me is to see only a couple different styles of armor for all races from rank 1 to 40. That would be a terrible letdown.
Please tell me that tanks will look like tanks from the waist down. The only tank class that actually look great from the head down are Chaos Chosen and Black Orks..

The graphics in the listed thread are spectacular. Textures are fantastic. I can't see how anyone can disagree with either the texture quality and it's potential or the art direction. Now if we can get combat animations to match (especially the timings) we are in business.
Eggroll

Lovely. Thanks for sharing those with us.
I agree with the combat animations needing some work. They just need a little tweak and then we will be good to go.
Wow. This makes me want to go out and buy a really good graphics card so I can run the game to look like this.

Those are my shots and I can absolutley do it during RvR. I play constantly with full AF and AA in 1920 x 1200 and rarely drop below 30 fps during heavy fighting. And during scenario's/light fighting im usually around 60 fps.

Oh Skrigg-with-the-amazing-pics! I was wondering if you think I will manage all of that graphical-sweetness you are running with my own rigg? (I also use a 1920x1200 LCD)
The system Im running is as follows:
Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000)
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ ~3.0GHz
2046MB RAM
DirectX 10
DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Display Memory: 1372 MB
Dedicated Memory: 604 MB
Shared Memory: 767 MB
Would I need to "force" any settings or make any other system changes to run at the same level as you?
Thanks in advance!

08-20-2008, 01:23 PM
The only reason I actually force settings like that is because they currently don't have the full graphical adjustment UI in. I cant apply AA or AF to the current client in game so I do it through my video card controll panel. Who knows what kind of settings we will be able to mess with in the future. I assume they will add all the bells' and whistles that can be adjusted in most video games.
As far as your rig goes its failry simalar to mine and I have always run the game well. I am hower extremely maticulous about making sure my HD ( I run 1 genaric 7200 RPM SATA ) is not stressed by defragging very often, usually daily before and after each patch.
I fully expect to be able to run this game at 100% max settings when they impliment the graphic's options.

Aha, then I'd better clear up some of the 450G from my 500G HD... as it's probably not in the best of health at the moment. Thanks for the input!

you think there is forced filtering but as you can see from the screenshots its very very poor filtering regardless of what you try to force. the ground that is not immediately around the character turns into a blurry mess.
wait until they implement graphic customization to the client.

Nvida Control Panel forces AA and AF. I also used a photo program to sharpen the pics, to compensate for the shrink down from 5760x3600 to 1920x1200, and a few have some bloom added (ones that I use for wallpaper)

Get more ram... like 2-3 gigs more. Thats 40-50 bucks that will help ALOT.The processor needs work but it'll do but you'll see video lag from HD swapping more than from the processor not being fast enouph.

Not trying to burst your bubble but unless you made a typo when you said 8600GS you are in for a let down. The 8600 Line is not a good card, and you aren't going to get good results with it. If you plan on playing WAR on a newer Nvida card you need a 8800 or better. I would suggest picking up an 8800 GT for around 150 on newegg if money is an issue. If not get a GTX 260.
Someone please correct me if im wrong.

You're right that the 8600gts is a terrible card, expect low settings in most situations.
Your recommendation isn't great however. For $100 get an 8800gt, if you want to spend more go ATI.. get a 4850 or 4870

Just a note, that is the card I use but it its running at over GTX stock speeds, its very overclocked right now, as well as the rest of my system. But yeah, the game run's amazing for me. Alot of my shots were just random print screens as I was playing normally. I didn't set up shots by turning on AA and AF, taking the shot, and then turning it off so I could play.
I also expect that this will get even better by launch. Im sure they are still optomizing and possibly running debug that may decrease performance.

Your shots are misleading then if you used a program to alter the pics? You've added bloom and sharpening effects which will greatly change the look of the screenshots. I happen to think the game looks great, and your screenshoots look awesome as well, but people with your identical setup will not see those screens unless they use a 3rd party app.

Maybe you are thinking of onboard mem on the gfx card? It is true, the size of the HDD (hard disk) should not matter, unless you got so little room left that you can not have a decent pagefile.
The speed of the HD do matter doh, as some swapping and loading will occur.

Anything better or equal to 8800GT.
Nvidia 8800GT/GTS 512 (g92) would be the cheapest,
Nvidia 9800 gtx/+
Ati 4850 (best bang for the buck), nvidia gtx 260
If money is not a problem go all the way Ati 4870/4870X2 or nvidia gtx 280.
Of course if your resolution is small (under 1680x1050) you dont really need a top end card.

Hi,
These look stunning, thank you so much for sharing!!
Can you explain to a noob how I force this on my card (8800 GTX OC'd). I know I need to change some things in the Nvidia Control Panel, but Im not sure which ones, and whether it needs to be a global change or a program only change.
Thank you.

Start->Control Panel->Nvidia control panel->3D Setting(I think?)->Dont remember look for Antialiasing(AA) and Anisotropic(AF) sliders or Advanced option.
Cant check right now i have an ATI card.

10-25% better depend which game you're playing.

Ive had 2 8800GT 1gig's for like 6 months now and loved how AOC handled, but i've just realised that SLI was turned off the whole time :D
I only just figured it out when i went for a wonder to check out the 3d settings discussed above :P

Thing is you need really high resolution for texture to look that sharp. So you need a 24 inch monitor for 1920x1220 or 22 inch for 1680x1050.
/looks at his 18.4 inch screen running 1920x1080 and disagrees with you.

By the way, does the game take advantage of quad-core systems?
I'm no expert when it comes to this, but i am fairly certain that no games take full advantage of the quad core processes. Considering they came out (to my knowledge) after warhammer was under construction, i do not think they re wrote the whole game just to incorperate the low number of people who have quad core machines.
Correct me if im wrong, but quad core is not reallly for gaming, its more for people who need to have a lot of applications at once open and they need them all to run fairly fast.

Yup, Caboose is right. A quad core will help a little bit tho because it can run your Windows process on unused core.

Maybe you are thinking of onboard mem on the gfx card? It is true, the size of the HDD (hard disk) should not matter, unless you got so little room left that you can not have a decent pagefile.
The speed of the HD do matter doh, as some swapping and loading will occur.
wikipedia -> sarcasm, thanks!
