What do you think the fucntion for the black orc to be?

1. Something like daoc warrior, where you contribute dps to the assist train and guard the casters with your shield or cc?

2. MA in the assist train, after all any class that can snare and disable opponenents will open them to pummeling by his buddies. Like warrior in WoW with his Mortal strike.

3. Pure defender? Alwayse stays back and CCes enemy. I never seen class done along these lines.


I think it is quite possible that Black orc will resemble WoW rogue with heavy armor but much lower dps, perhaps Knight from Lineage 2. 1on1 he will kill you but its gona take a while as you slowly get dismembered by the chopper, being snared, debuffed, you attacks interupted by dazes and short term stuns. In grp you will CC first and foremost with some of the CC being negated if enemy attacks you insted of running from you (positionals!).

I would love the class gameplay to be something along the lines of:
1. Charge (best thing WoW added to melee in mmorpgs)
2. Unless countered by shield block of some sort, execute body slam
3. Unless interupted(by enemy stun of some sort or maybe specialized ability) crack opponents knee (snare with dot!)
4. As Iron claws get to work on the "body" you see Hammerer going for the shaman, follow him in as he tries to execute his opening, interupt him by shoving him with a shield(see point 2)
5. Stomp on the back of his leg (short term daze). Unless he turns to face you bring the choppa down on his head (large bonus dmg if opponent is dazed by attack from the back)

etc

Also I think powerful attacks should create openings which would allow them to be interupted. Such interupts should expose you to the follow up chains like most fighting games. This way mere presence of a black orc would force enemy dps to be conservative with their attacks. Since UBER STRIKE of PWNAGE will create a huge opening that orc can use to deliver massive stun or debuff.

I don't see them as either. They'll do good as an MA of course, but you can pull their utility from someone else on the train(aka black orc /assister, not MA) if some other class ends up better for being MA.

Like maybe you want, in daoc, for your mercenary to be MA. but if the merc player(s) are no good at being MA, you want your best MA(even if he's playing a minstrel or whatever :P) to be doing the targetting. There's a reason you pick an MA, and class shouldn't be the only factor

Well ya thats true best player at picking target should be ma, but in most cases you want him to be atleast somewhat tough to kill, so he can live through most of the fight.

Big slow but strong two hander with high armor and disorients chasing around smaller foes whacking them to pieces.

or

Defending their allies widdling away at the enemy snaring and beating on them with choppa and shield.

Engaged in melee either way offensively or defensively.

Dps melee tanks will be MA more prolly, Heavy tanks normally either assists on train or "guards" the squishy classes.

That said even a mage can be MA, only problem is the 1st target getting nuked tends to run away from u and melee train doesn't get there in time and get "kited".

I am hoping for something a bit different for tanks in this game rather than the usual caster target (twoll warrior with big flamey sword = nuked to death by caster nuke train first)
A pure unbridled killing machine that people fear and run away from and the last to be standing after a big fight would be nice, heres hoping casters are'nt overpowered nuke machines :P but ultimatly aslong as its fun I can adapt to whatever role we eventually get
just looking forward to WAR as DAOC was my first MMO and I kinda gimped myself going twoll sword warrior ^^ but hey we gotta learn from our mistakes :)
