Clarification & Terminology

-Characters begin gaining mastery points at rank 11 (ALTHOUGH NOT EVERY SINGLE RANK), and will gain a total of 25 points by Rank 40.

- For core training, the rank number next to the ability’s name is the character rank needed to train the ability. You will be able to train all of them by rank 40.

- For mastery training, the number of mastery points next to the ability’s name is the required number of points invested into the path/tree. You will gradually receive 25 points so choose wisely!

-‘Cripple’ abilities are a class of debuffs, which are often the prerequisite to another ability’s effect. (example: Castigation is casted on the target and now the target is ‘crippled’, then you use Weight of Guilt and (provided the target is still under the ‘crippled’ status) the target will be snared, reducing their run speed for 40%)

-Blessings are a class of buffs and you can only have one casted at a time per target.

-Prayers are a class of buffs that affect both the Warrior Priest and her/his group when activated, lasting until death or if toggled off. You end up having a varied selection to choose from but can only have one activated.

- ‘Special range’ under certain abilities means that the ability uses a less than common targeting method, which is explained in the description of the ability (please note that the term ‘special range’ does not appear in-game and is only used for this guide).

- All of the abilities under core training are essentially core abilities (means you can train them all), however a good portion of them fall under certain paths/trees as well. For example, Bludgeon falls under Path of Wrath. What does this mean? The more points you spend in Path of Wrath, the more powerful Bludgeon will become. This works the same with the other paths and abilities; the only ones who do not benefit from any mastery training are only labeled as ‘core ability’. All abilities listed under Mastery Training benefit from points spent into their respective trees.

-The amount of damage or amount healed in each of the abilities’ descriptions will scale with your level/rank. With that said, the amounts that appear on this guide are all for the LEVEL 1 versions of the abilities. By the time you train them, most of the abilities will damage/heal for much more amounts than what is seen here.

Strength:Increases melee damage and reduces your opponent’s chance to block or parry attacks.
Willpower: Increases your chance to disrupt attacks and increases healing dealt to allies.
Toughness: Reduces the damage dealt to you by opponents. (all types)
Wounds: Increases the amount of health you have.
Initiative: Increases your chance to evade attacks, detect stealthed enemies, and lowers your chance to be critically hit.
Weapon Skill: Increases your chance to parry attacks and penetrate an opponent’s armor.
Ballistic Skill: Increases ranged damage and reduces your opponent’s chance to block or evade attacks.
Intelligence: Increases magic damage and reduces your opponent’s chance to block or disrupt attacks.

*Parry works against melee attacks only, Dodge works against ranged attacks only, Disrupt works against magical attacks only, and Block (shield) works against all attacks.

*Weapon skill stat adds to a separate stat (Armor Penetration) which is a percentage representing how much of the enemy’s armor you ignore when you attack.

*Initiative stat adds to a separate stat (Chance to be critically hit) which is a percentage representing how open you are to be critically hit.

*For Warrior Priests 1 wound = 10 health.

*Along with Disrupt, you have resistances to various different types of magic (elemental, spiritual, corporeal).

Very helpful, thanks for putting this together. I'd be interested to hear thoughts on useful macros to make life a little easier for a WP. It gets a bit hectic doing both Melee and healing.

Something that could maybe target a teammate and cast one of our HoTs on them (or both of our HoTs) in a single keystroke would be nice.

How many mastery points for our area of specialty? For example if I wanted to be a healer but needed a few points for damage, how many can I allocate to my sub-specialty?

here (http://www.wardb.com/career.aspx?id=12#13:8744:0:0:7:128:25) is a sample build

notice which abilities are selected and which ones aren't.
since you want to focus on healing with some damage, fanaticism would be a better tactic than divine fury. you could always take out some points from salvation and put them in wrath or grace to increase your offensive area.

I don't get it what happened to the other 5 points?

look closely at the ability icons, some of them have an orange outline and some of them have a white outline. its hard to tell but the ones with the orange outlines are considered learnt.
the 5 points were spent on 4 abilities in salvation and 1 in wrath.

very nice..

This makes my choice for going for the WP much easier..

Knock back and so on in the wrath chain is really nice..

Not to rain on your parade but I must have missed the guide part of this guide, all I see is a list of abilities that are available on wardb. If you want it to be a guide I'd suggest some basic strategy about how to play the class, what abilities are good when and how, some sample specs etc.

Not to rain on your parade but I must have missed the guide part of this guide, all I see is a list of abilities that are available on wardb. If you want it to be a guide I'd suggest some basic strategy about how to play the class, what abilities are good when and how, some sample specs etc.

this was written before the NDA went down, before warddb became publicly available, and yet at the moment the NDA came down the core abilities listed on the site seemed to lack recent updates because they were different from what was actually in the beta servers. i'm pretty sure they are up to date by now, however.

as the title says, the 'guide' is one focused on core and mastery training, it's not and never claimed to be a comprehensive guide or one with all-around depth of the warrior priest class. the clarification and terminology section (incase you missed it) further explains the terms and concepts you will see on the abilities so that people have a better understanding of what exactly they are training, instead of thinking "oh this one lowers something, don't know what it is but all i know it lowers something so i'll just get that".

all in all we're just arguing semantics, and you have mistaken this for a full in-depth guide of the class as a whole when instead its purpose is to cover a certain part. however i will take into consideration your suggestion of providing sample specs amongst other things, as i have helped quite a few members who have PM'd me concerning specs.

even in such a case, the futility of providing 'sample specs' (or cookie cutter builds; the term has a problem in existing since the game is not even out) becomes evident because of the fact that non-elder beta testers have been locked out of tier 3 and beyond. this makes any of MY sample spec suggestions more speculation than anything else as to what will be useful because of the fact that no testers ever had more than 5 mastery points to spend while playing (aside from elders). i give you a list of the abilities so that the viewer can read them, think them over and speculate themselves as to what would be useful and to what is not although i have no problem in helping those who ask.

i will admit however that i was planning on expanding on this guide once more content became available, thank you for your suggestions!

ty for your guide and helpful comments

It looks like 15/3/7 maybe popular for leveling, but I think a 15/10/0 or 15/7/3 may end up as builds for pure support healers. Just a guess.....

Of coarse a Wrath build would be tempting for PvP but my early experience during preview weekend was that my faction buds were thankful for my heals.

i think the WoW days of stating builds in numbers are over. there are abilities that can be skipped and this creates opportunities for several different purposes and roles within the same set-up of numbers spent so people tend to end up sounding more vague than anything else when stating numbers only.

Until another set of metrics is introduced, those of us who want to keep track of skills, attributes, statistics to make our avatar all it can be, will play around with wow style builds.

But I do predict some interesting matrices that incorporate all the WAR related abilities so people can track current and future builds.

they will probably be called by name rather than by number or maybe a mix of both. sort of like the warlock spec: "SL/SL" one could say "salv/fanatic" spec to indicate a version of the 16/0/8 build.

I'm trying to decide between Rune Priest or Warrior Priest and I have a hard time deciding on which one I want to play.
Tried them both now in open beta and they are both fun to play, but I can't decide if I want to be at the front line in combat or back line and I prefer to have one main character.

I have enjoyed playing healers in other mmo's so far, like Priest (WoW), Doctor (SWG), Doctor (AO).

So any words of advice and such would be greatful. :D

but I can't decide if I want to be at the front line in combat or back linewell, you'll have to choose one before deciding on a class. while the runepriest can heal regardless of location, a warrior priest is forced to heal through Supplication if he is in the back. if you are supplication healing(with the exception of certain situations), then your class turns into a very very gimped runepriest. you should also decide if you'd rather prefer using magical ranged attacks & runes or physical attacks & prayers.

Well my choice became a Warrior Priest.
Great class to play. :D

Any tips on Warrior Priest in RvR?
