i just realised, looking at the maps of warhammer, the city of mordenheim is the closest empire city to the shores of the norsca lands of chaos.

(just left of the middle mountains in the old world)
edit" sorry thats middenheim, my mistake, duuh! :/ but yeah, mordheim would be nice to see in the game, sadly it might not be possible without some kind of time travel involved
for those who don't know, its a city that had a giant meteor hit it (most hypothisise its warpstone) the center of the city.
its turned into a warzone of gangs, witchhunters and mutants, but the outskirts are a fairly thriving city, be it under alot of protection from the city millitia and mercenaries.
i see mordenheim as a perfect conflict city between empire and chaos, hordes of weird monsters and crazed gangs as nps mobs, and the empire players and chaos players running around too!
anyone think it might turn up in warhammer online? or will this turbulent city be avoided by mythic?
double posting in empire and chaos forums, cause i think it affects both races.

Mordenheim actually lies W, to SW of Nuln depending on which map you look at (seeing that many are different based on their sizes and to reflect on catogrophy at the time)

the time line still confuses me, but i would have liked to have been able to step inside the mordenhiem warzone in an online game, the game suppliment was awsome for the wargames.

Well, first of its Mordheim, not Mordenheim. Im sorry to burst the bubble, but Mordheim was razed to the ground and all evidence of its existence, was stricken from imperial records, during the time of Magnus the Saviour. On top of that, the Mordheim time line takes place 500 years before the rule of the current emperor Karl Franz.
With carefull planning, you could visit the site in game, but there would properly be nothing to see and i don't recollect any maps actually showing the location. The Mordheim book only mention, that it lies in Ostermark.

I've got a map with Mordheim on it. It came with the White Dwarf issue 300.
Middenheim is quite north but ( I'm unsure as to whether these cities belong to the Empire still ) Praag and Erengrad are directly against the borderline so to speak.
I wish I had a scanner but sadly, I don't.

Yeah, Magnus the Pious pretty well obliterated Mordheim, but I find it odd that if you look at the map at the beginning of the cinematic, Mordheim is on that map.

Yah, got to let you know about Middenheim. The SoC timeline wasn't included in the background for WAR. So Middenheim is still alive and kicking. Plus, that was only time Chaos ever reached that far, since Magnus that is.

Hmm it'd be interesting if it did show up. Deffinately be a high lvl "dungeon" filled with mutants, demons and such.

The question of it being out of the current time line also is was that part of the core SoC timeline? Because if its far in the past, several hundred yeasr before Franz for example and he's on the throne right now.. That still wont work then :P

That's Middenheim. There is Mordheim and Middenheim. They are two vastly different places on opposite ends of the Empire.
This case is Middenheim, just wanted to clear up the confusion.

I dont see why mordheim couldn't be involved in the online game. Its one of the few cities in which every race could easily meet and attack in warbands, which the game wants us to party. The fact that it was destroyed doesn't make the city unplayable, it can be set up the same way you would a tabletop version of mordheim.

The Empire Capital city will be Praag, IMO.
Hence the creation of the artwork, specifically for WAR: "The Desolation of Praag."
Either that, or it will be Chaos's Capital and foothold in the Empire.
EDIT: Thought i might post this.. don't know why, for the topics sake :D

Praag will be Chaos capital because Praag never has been Empire. It always has been Kislev. Praag was decimated once because of a horde of Chaos but was rebuilt. in WAR they can change the timeline to make it so that it was taken over again. The capital for the Empire will be Altdorf, obviously, as it is the caspital for them anyways. Middenheim will not play a part at all in the game except as a passing mention by npc's, if even that.
May I ask what artwork you are referring to when you say "Decimation of Praag"?

Ah, Decimation, that was the word i was looking for..
i was referring to the The Decimation of Praag (http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/artandillust/images/TheDecimationofPraag.jpg) artwork, found at warhammeronline.com

Praag is the neutral Tier 4 zone. The Empire capital is Altdorf. The Chaos capital is The Inevitable City.

The Empire capital is Altdorf. The Chaos capital is The Inevitable City.
Where did it say so? ... I see a problem with Altdorf: how much will we see of it in the game? Altdorf is a big city with the 8 (big) magic academy buildings, the technicus guild, emperors palace, temple of sigmar and so on ... Would be better to take a rather noname city with not so much background information so they can build it, like they want?
And Praag was never rebuilt after the Chaos Legion destroyed (corrupted, transformed) it. (to my knowledge)

Analysis of the map video from the last newsletter showed all the Emp-chaos zones. Praag is indeed the neutral zone.

Altdorf it is then. Basically fine for me, but a hell of a job for the map makers and artists if they want to make it right and decent ... I hope for something really mindblowing.

You meant after the First Great War? where Asavar Kul's army wrecked it?
It was rebuilt, and more recently it was attacked again in one of the Gotrek and Felix books.
And judging from the art pieces we've seen, it has again been attacked and probably reduced to mostly rubble.

That artwork depicts a scene right before WAR starts.
Pragg is a frequent stepping stone for Chaos, as it is right in front of the High Pass, which is the gateway to the Chaos Wastes. Which also give it a strategic value, and is why it is rebuilt whenever it gets smashed.

I've recently read some of the books(only inheritance and dominion, not much help) But I don't believe Praag would be the chaos's inevitable city. The inevitable city would most likely be a hastily constructed, over large camp. Situated in the chaos wastes. I believe its still uncertain wether this is before or after hordes of chaos as mythic wants to keep us guessing. But this is defiantly after Vlad's campaign against the empire right.
