View Full Version : Selling Scavenged Items

So on all the characters I played this past weekend I made sure to pick up scavenging as a way to earn a little extra coin, figuring I could sell scavenged items to vendors.
Unfortunately it seems like a lot of the materials I found were not sellable. For example, I found several purple Talisman Making items that I thought would sell for something (at least enough to buy my RR 6 gear) but no vendor would purchase them.
Do you think they will allow us to sell items to vendors on release? And if not, I wonder if there will be a player created economy for these materials to make it worth while to take an extra 5 seconds over each dead body?

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure every other type of gathered item could be sold. I'm guessing the reason the talisman stuff couldn't be sold because they're not finished pricing items? I know the taliman profession wasn't in the PW, so this could be a possible reason we ran into this.

I took butchering and there was very very few items I couldn't sell. Maybe 2 or 3 the entire preview weekend.

Even if you couldn't sell them, with the amount of vendor items you get from Scavenging, you can make a decent profit from them. Before I trained in it, I had a hard time with money for training my skills. But afterward, I had enough to buy all my skills with 6G to spare. Although I did Scavenge practically every mob I killed and some I didn't. ;)

I also noticed that all of the Talisman stuff that I got from scavenging were unsellable. However like it has been said I think it is either due to the fact that talisman making isn't in the game yet and since it isn't in the game yet they haven't done pricing for it. Just how I saw things.

why would you sell craft items to vendors? sell them to players and make a little extra cash :p

I loved scavaging durring the PW. Sure I ended up finding alot of talisman loot that I had to toss due to the fact that there was nothing to do with it yet. Though I ended up with alot of accesories, weapons, and armour I could use, or even sell to NPC's or other players if I wanted to.
Will they let us sell things to NPC's on release? Yes, I am pretty sure they will, if they don't it will be quite silly.

Some items don't bolster the markup or time it takes to sell, to deal with selling them on AH or to try and find a buyer.
Also it seems that money in this game really isn't going to be all powerfull like in other games, its going to be easy to get, and just as easy to spend.

I just picked it up today. I love doing Public Quest because I get so many points really quick. I think in one Public Quest I got 25 points.
Is there any way of getting bigger bags or a storage some how?

You get a new bag at level 10.
Also, Scavengers make sure you sell Curios on the AH. Talisman Makers need them, and they do not have access to them if they took Salvaging. Don't try to charge crazy prices like 1g for level 1-10 Curios because nobody will buy them.

PQ's are the bread and butter of my scavenging. The champs usually drop green or better loot.

Agreed.
Keep in mind the level of the item though. Level 1 purps might just as well be gray items.

Exactly, you're looking at 80b-1s per blue, probably 1s50b for the purple. But at low level nobody is trying to actually make stuff worthwhile, they're looking for the cheapest route to max level. Keep that in mind when you're selling.

i don't understand what you guys mean by choosing scavenging or butchering ...i never got to choose between them (at least that's what i thought) ...i was simply out levelling and all of the sudden a wrench cam up on the mouse when over a mob (after looting) and i had levelled the scavenging skill ...i didn't choose it ...
i'm confused - what's up, can i still butcher and salvage or am i stuck with scavenging. BTW mu scavenging skill is already at 47 …and I’m only rank 7 – how high does this skill go (max)

i got salvaging i think its called and taliman making they go hand in hand but hard to level talisman skill so far hope it gets better. i know you can only have one trade skill like talisman making but can you have more than one gathering skill im new and dont have my ducks in a row yet

If you have scavenging, then at some point you took it as a gathering tradeskill. Unless it's a bug (that I'm not aware of, but that doesn't mean it isn't out there...), you don't have any gathering skills unless you specifically 'train' it. All gather/crafting trainers begin at Chapter 2 areas. When you hit the Chapter 2 area, it's really easy to click on an NPC and just click "ok" or whatever since there's so many new quests. My guess is that this is what happened.
If you don't want scavenging and would rather have one of the other "gather" tradeskills, simply go to the trainer for the one you want, and train it. You will get a prompt that you already have one, and if you want this one instead. You will lose any progress you made on the previous skill.

One crafting (talisman making and apothecary) and one gathering (scavenging, salvaging, cultivation and butchering). That's it. One of each.

Thanks Yvon ...much appriciated...
it's ok - i would of chosen scavenging anyway... i just don't remember ever picking it (but i must have - i was really loading up on quests)
last question - where do you train the apothocary skill ...is it basically the same (finding apropriate NPC and selecting it) ...

So true.
Its funny seeing how people price items, they have absolutely no clue. Who's going to be paying 1gp for a purple texted crafting item for a talisman thats equiv to level 2 or 3?
