View Full Version : Costly at the start?

Hi!

I was just wondering what you guys think about this. As at the starting times of the game you really have good chanche of selling green items to people. Usually this is quite good method of getting some gold for your mount or whatnot. Added to this with scavenge/butch you can gather extra loot from corpses that will provide some material for crafting and some for sale. This would end up you selling the green items and the crafting materials you don't need + vendor items (gray items such like bones or meat).

Now with Salvaging you don't get any extra loot and on top of that you destroy the green items so you can't sell them. This will drop your incomerate dramatically. If you just happen to RvR alot and some PvE you will notice that you aren't getting that much money to begin with. As far as i see it, salvaging dries up money really efficently and you will be running around without mount for a good time after you could have had it.

So what i was thinking is that you take scavenging/buch to begin with and raise the talisman making with what you get and sell the rest. Then when you hit max level or near, you drop the scavenging and start to buy green items and wreck them. Buying these items should be quite cheap as you can gain so much more money on high levels than you get at the low levels. This would provide you secured income at start, some skill to talisman making and still get the salvaging at the end.

PS: I think scavenging might be better choise as if you grind just for money, usually humanoids tend to drop more money and then you can scavenge them too.

All true!

As it stands currently, magic salvaging (and talisman making because it requires salvaging) are money pits. I imagine once you get your skills up and have enough money to support it with good items it starts to pay off more in terms of how good items you can make, but right now butchering/scavenging are the only craftskills practical for a newbie's budget -- they make you money instead of taking it.

too bad you can only have one gathering profession and one crafting skill at the same time...

Yep, it's true. This idea should work, in theory, but I don't think anyone has tested it.

I was using the salvaging at OB and noticed that both times i salvaged i got only scraps and botht imes they were worth of 10 copper (you can buy the same items from shops)... Leveling salvaging will prolly increase the chanche of getting fragments but meh i say!

Unfortunately you wont get any fragments or magical essences with scavanging. Talisman making will be a 'dead' craft for you until you switch to salvaging. Better to take Apothecary because you can use some of the stuff you scavange.

I will start off with scavenging and talisman making at start, although talisman making will be as said a dead craft at start due to fragments and magical essence.
Just sit back scavange at the start, save all the talisman making items and green gear that you get during these times since you need alot of low lvl green gear for talisman making.
Then at lvl 20 and you have your first mount (or maybe wait and get a later mount) switch over to salvaging and salvage all the green gear you have gotten then.

Create a Talisman/Salvaging alt. Do Apoth/Scavenging on you main. Send all the greens and trinkets to the alt, keep the rest for you apoth. Send the Talismans you make on the alt back to your main or any other characters or sell them.

You get the best of both without having to store all those greens/ingredients on your main. Because my experience with Talisman/Salvaging, you end up with a lot of mats sitting around above your skill level taking up space.

Class Rank is meaningless for craft (so far), so you can mail all the gear you want salvaged/trinketed to a Rank 1. Just send the alt some money to be able to mail stuff back.

There is a limit to how far you can get your tradeskills without levelling. You will actually stop getting skillups.

How far though? If you can get past the early frustrating levels just sending to an alt, this still can work.

Yes, you will go broke just leveling your salvaging and talisman skills.
To upgrade your talisman skills, you need to create a lot of talisman.

I think... To make good talisman, you need good salvaging skills. Higher salvaging, gets better essence.

As to whether these crafts are worth doing depends on it's importance in RvR and drop loot. From level 1 to 13 where I am now, talisman making is rubbish. You don't need talismans at all. Drops gears are good enough and you outlevel your gear within hours so making that talisman just for that few hours doesn't really make much difference. There are as of now a lot of good gears that come with good stats but without a talisman slot. Gears that come with a talisman slot are usually just basic gear with no enhancements. I do remember seeing some enhance gears with talisman slots in CB/OB though... or was I just dreaming?

Hopefully... just hopefully at higher levels, Talismans are "needed" or rather sought after, therefore be in demand and I think that there aren't that many around so IF we ever are able to create let's say a +50 Willpower/INT/STR talisman, you gonna wanna charge a king's ransom for such precious items. Otherwise, talisman and salvaging's nothing but a useless craft for you to waste money.

I think the deal with salvaging and talsiman making is that at lower levels it will be a pain in the and slow but will produce increasingly better and better items (or at least I hope so)

made a +20 wounds for 2 day talisman today :)

I been doing salv/talis, Im rank 11. My salv is at 12 and i think my Talis is at 8. LoL, I'm not sure if thats good but probably not. Anybody know what the number cap is so i can judge? I have something like 2.5g from questing. Its gonna be a long road. I can only make feeble items so far. I suppose i can buy low green renown gear and start crafting away. But need the cash atm.
