View Full Version : Witchunters, the Elf Hunters of WAR?

Darlos

When WoW was released there was a huge amount of Night Elf hunters called 'Legoles' 'Lagoles' 'Lagalos' etc etc

Do you think with Watch Hunters it's gonna be the same only with 'Vanhelsing' 'Thevanhelsing' 'Vanhellsing' etc

There's a topic on this already, in the Off-Topic section.

No, there isn't that topic is on Legolas orientated characters. However, it's taken a turn to this same subject. And yes, there will be a massive number of people who will be desperate to have something with Hellsing in their name.

They'll all be burned as the heretics they are. Burn them I say! Burrrnnn!

What? No! I don't want to take my medicine!

Illya, I think you are way too far past the point where medicine can help you.

As for the Van Helsing names, I don't really care. I say let people name their characters whatever the hell they want. If it bothers you, then ignore them. I personally think that although Van Helsing is cool, he doesn't fit the warhammer witch hunter role.

I don't know though, just some crazy teenagers opinions.

Willstar

My medicine will help him. *brings out double barrel shotgun and shoots Illya in the knee caps* There, feel better?

That aside, most people think he does fit the bill cuz of his attire and the fact that he hunts 'weirdo's'. So to speak.

Tja, it's just the way some people think. I just can't stand it. Mho.

Having watched the new Dracula on Tv tonight, I'm almost tempted to snatch up teh name myself...but play him as the doddery old weirdo Van Helsing rather than Mr. bg hat and crossbow.

Idiot sheep will always come up with unoriginal stupid names.

WAR will be no different.

Besides, who's that into Van Helsing? It was a crap movie.

I would say that Mythic should ban permutations on names like Legolas or Van Helsing.
That goes double for any name that involves numbers, bracketing names with Xs, etc.

Illya
12-29-2006, 10:54 AM
WoW didn't allow numbers in a name, which was a good thing. I hope Mythic does the same.

Willstar
12-30-2006, 03:37 AM
Not only numbers, signs and stuff as well. Like, I've seen a name of ~*Legolas*~.

Ban the stars and the wavy thingies! And with that, make a program that looks up names that have exactly the same amount of l's, e's, g's, o's, a's and s's, as Legolas and Ban it! Ban it to the seventh circle of Khaine's hell! Hem, I really need to calm down...

Illya

People with names like must be burned for the glory of Sigmar! Burrrn! The crackling flames, the screams, the smell of seared flesh! How can you not enjoy it!

Everyones knows that the first person on each server to make a Witch Hunter called Van Helsing is gonna be the coolest. I mean the actual name, no lame rip off names.

Illya
12-30-2006, 03:55 PM
Blasphemy! And if Mythic is clever they'll ban those kind of names.

While I don't doubt the possibility of Witch Hunters being incredibly popular with newbs, just wait and see for when they release some sorta elfin archer class:cool: .

I'm pretty sure there'll be a Shadow Warrior class. It seems to be fitting with the other classes they've chosen. And then we'll see the Legolasses in their dozens. People don't read, enlighten themselves. They don't have imagination. The youth of today are a bunch of illiterate retards, destroyed by a childhood of tv and videogames.

But.....Grom Hellscream is a Warcraft character, thus the name would be applied to some casual who stole the name for an orc char.

Don't edit peoples quote's. He said Grom Hellsing, a character from Warhammer Lore, I think i've heard of him. You in your infernal wisdom took him as a fool who would mis-spell Grom Hellscream, a character of Warcraft Lore. You also took him for a fool when you thought that he would mistake Grom Hellscream for a Warhammer character.

And don't say you didn't edit it, there is no edit tag on Chaosdreamers post, and the names do not match.

Ahhh.... I see now. I took it for a misspell. Never really heard of this Hellsing character, and Hellscream came to mind. Sorry about that mate :( .

If my fellow Witch Hunters have any taste they will NOT add Van Helsing, or any Helsing into their names lest they be burned as heretics!

Muahahaha!

Ah well. As you so kindly pointed out, I was stereotyping. But, if the shoe fits... who am I to stop you from wearing it, eh?

If that wasn't plain enough, here's the explanation. The youth of today, does indeed mean the youth in general. It doesn't mean every single individual between certain age limits. No, it means the major percentage. The larger part. Most of them. But not all. Ok?

And I still feel old.

Or for that matter from fiction/history:
Solomon Kane
Rev. Dr. Christopher Syn
Matthew Hopkins, Witchfinder General (real historical figure)

or you could go from existing Witch Hunters/Inquisitors from Warhammer:
Mathias Thulmann
Gregor Eisenhorn
Gideon Ravenor

or....you could go with references to the Salem Witch Trials:
Samuel Parris
John Hale
Giles Corey
John Proctor

Van Helsing was a good movie, nothing to do with the REAL Van Helsing.Back to the subject though. In WoW all those 13-16 year old kids named their characters something close to Legolas and perhaps it might happen in WAR too but with VanHelsingg/VanHelzing etc etc or by VanLegolas lol

I dunno, I'll take 16 bad variants of Legolas by easily-influenced kids over deeply self-satisfied nerds with names taken from the Silmarillion or the LotR appendices (he said, probably insulting someone here).

Plus, kids today are probably more familar with the anime "Helsing" (blech) than Van Helsing in any other context, including the movie.

I don't think we'll see that many Van Helsings, by the way, but I do think we'll see every possible vampire-related name, no matter how inappropriate. I'm waiting for the first Witch-hunter I see called "Dracula" or worse, "Alucard", so I can slam my head into my desk repeatedly.

As for Legolas, well, LotR is SOOOOO 2004, I don't think we'll see that much of that, though some "wit" will no doubt have Legomyegolas and think he's the funniest man who ever had a funny name in a game. Also, the least Gandalf-looking Empire Bright Wizard in the world will be called "Gandalf", you know it. And you'll probably see him standing on a letter box semi-clad, too. If it wasn't for no dance emotes, he'd be dancing.

I guess Samuel could be counted as a witch hunter...but actually he was more like a "I don't like them so they are a witch" hunter.
Samuel Parris and other adults around him may have had a major hand in "picking" some of the accused.

Using these names as witch hunters would be ironic because they were accused of witchcraft and executed for it.

John Proctor was an elderly man of 60 years of age when accused, tried, and hanged for practicing witchcraft in 1692.

Ann Putnam, Jr., Marcy Lewis, Abigail Williams, Mary Walcott and Elizabeth Hubbard accused Giles Corey of witchcraft in April of 1692.

I got the information here http://jefferson.village.virginia.edu/salem/home.html (http://jefferson.village.virginia.edu/salem/home.html) . This is a site where they are trying to get archival materials on the Salem Witch Trials online. I am writing a paper for history on this that’s why I looked at your post.

I didn't find John Hale on the archives site but I did on wikipedia. I will have to see what I can find in the actual archives I am getting for my papers about him.

That and I plan on being a witch hunter heh.

Edit: I also hate it when people can't be original and use names from literature or history. But, it is going to be a huge undertaking to eliminate it all. I totally expect players to do it. Wish they wouldn't but expect it sadly.

on the topic of which hunters, for people who have watched the blogs. in the one on the magus i think he says witch hunter but it is blanked, but with little lip reader and thae fact that its 1 syalabol and then 2 (sorry my speel is like eye murder), which other class could it be, he mention that they could be very... odd to play, just something for people with to much time to try and come up with blown up ideas.

on the topic of names, im not to familar with the new empire fluff, but from where do witch hunters normally herald? and whats that regions earth counterpart.

maby they should give rewards to players with the best names?

heh i wish

Kaiel.

I knew all that. I liked the names because they came from the trial era, not so much that they were that of the witch hunters. The irony would be funny.

I believe there will be many people that will name their character after some movie/serie character. Already seen one that was a variation of Legolas in WAR... probably more out there already. I wonder why so many people can't create a little more creative names?

Quite annoying seeing all those variations...

On a slightly related note, I saw an elf called Legolaz today, and it first made me want to go cry in the corner, and then I felt like killing all high elves...

Why in the name of Sigmar do people have to torment us so by calling themselves Legolas?

(Might roll a dark elf alt to kill high elves whenever I see someone called Legolas or somesuch variant. I'll just go on an elf killing spree).
