I was just playing ogres in a small game and found that a dragonslayer kicks a*s. especially in a challenge. i killed a brusier (when my thane didnt, not even one wound) and his campion. also i sent him into a butcher and some ironguts and he wiped them to one ogre. so if you play dwarfs i suggest taking a dragonslyer with the master rune of swiftness and 2 runes of fury.

Dragonslayers tear apart rank and file of all types and no character is safe. Heck, all slayers are like that.
Ive seen slayers butcher many foes, but my most memorable experiance was watching a single dragonslayer fight a unit of over 20 marauders, all by himself. They were in combat the entire game, and by the end of it, no marauder was left alive, and the Slayer had not lost a single wound. That little slayer held up an armies flank throughout an entire battle, alone, and although he didnt get the death he craved, he did ensure his name would be remembered for all eternity ^_^

No ork has ever been slain (properly spelled this time) by a dwarf because dwarfs don't exist in Warhammer 40k

They used to .. they were called Squats. But anyways what does this have to do with 40k anyways?

1. Series
2. Dawn of War is Warhammer 40,000, NOT Warhammer Fantasy Battles...
3. They can't even be in 40k because the "squats", as they were called, have been whiped out by... http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/tyranids/extras/art/popup.htm?images/1.jpg
4. In realality, games workshops didn't like what the squats had become, and thought of them as a joke race, hence, they killed them off in the storyline, and ripped them from the stores.

He wrote orks instead of orcs, thats what.
Sqaut is not the same word as dwarf.

Krulltak, there is no reason to simply highlight a few mistakes like Ork instead or Orc, or Slayed instead of Slain. People mispell them All the time, and unless you intend to go around and point out the shortcomings of every single person on these boards, picking out one posters tiny faults is being unfair and being unfreindly to that person.
If we wish to quibble over grammer or spelling, you mispelled Squats. so there, gotcha :)
and Luy, thats news to me, When did the Squats get devoured by the Tyranids?

The Tyranids destroyed the Squat homeworld. I still have some of the old Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader era Squat miniatures ..I occasionally try to sneak one into an imperial guard unit. "Oi .. whats that?" .. "Um ..PFC Smitty .. he lost his knees to a landmine.".

Touche to the last part.
Also, I am mearly telling the stuntie that they ain't all they think themselves to be. I can understand the most powerful slayers to be quite dangerous, but most weaker ones are mear speedbumps on the TT.

No, GW has brought them back, but as little armored guys who are a space-faring race. They are called the Demiurg. They have only two ships in their very very rare fleets.

It is unknown whether Games Workshop is going to bring the Demiurg into the actual base game of Warhammer 40k, but we can only hope.
*coughs* I uh... paid Gotrek to go out and slay the author of Eragon, who ruined the movie by actually approving it's unrelated script to the book... Muahahahahahaa!

Wait...Eragon is what now? give me details... What did they do to butcher it? I must know! (I havent watched the film, doubt I will. I read the first two books though, got annoyed since they made the film before the third book was released, meaning they will butcher the story...)
As for slayers protecting war machines, I dunno. Do you really want to waste such potential for carnage? Sure he MIGHT get a go if the flyers are dumb enough to come his way, but he's essentially sitting out the battle in that defense position. Id much rather have him at the front, slaughtering any hapless foes he gets within axe range of, and let my Thunderers / Quarrellers look after the war machines.

They are written well enough; it's just that so very very much is borrowed (or more accurately, stolen) from WoT in them, and Jordan is a better writer I think.

There's always the Demiurg that are currently in development. Short, heavily muscular huamnoids who have deep, undying hatred for greenskins. I think that's good.
The old Squats where just hillbillies who were growth stunted.

once again, back to the dragonslayers
When im talking about having one guarding my warmachines im talking about a 50 point naked slayer, who will just get peppered with missile fire/magic if he wanders in the main fight, since i currently dont plan on having a unit of slayers for him to lead.
And the problem with using quarallers/thunderers to guard my warmachines is the fact that they cant turn around and shoot, so the units that hunt my arty will be behind my lines after i get MAYBE 1 turn to shoot them.
GreyWarlord

I see what you mean since independant characters don't have to wheel and take penalties etc. Dragonslayers do indeed pack a punch, you just have to keep them alive long enough to get into close combat and kick some arse.

It's their high lvl slayers who are useful, the weaker ones just slow down the enemy.

They are on their all the time. A slayer is really just a dwarf with an insanity level almost as high as that of orcs.
