it's saddening to hear that most talismans (cept Purple) will only be temporary. the good news is that it's gameplay hours, so those 8 hours will last a lot longer than it seems at first. however i just can't shake the feeling that with its rampant temporary characteristic, Talisman Making is just a cousin of Apothecary, which makes potions with temporary effects. the difference being that the potions have stronger effects but last a lot less longer.

Meh, low lvl talismans last 8 hours, the next "tier" so to say (still at below 25 tm skill though) last 2 days.. I don't really see much of a problem with high end talismans lasting for 10 days or what have you

Talisman Making will be a much more elite skill than Apothecary. The way it stands now, you will need to devote tons of time and money to reach the 200 mark. Most people will not put forth that much effort and just buy their Talismans from the AH for their end game equipment.
There is nothing wrong with that approach. Just most people will do Apothecary because of how potions will help them advance. The Talisman Maker will have a harder road to follow.

I'm also underwhelmed. I'm one of those people that really don't like consumables at all and having absolutely no profession that doesn't have a duration tacked on its products is just incredibly lame for me. I'd rather have them nerf them a bit but be permanent than this.
If the crafting remains as it currently is, I won't get any professions at all, maybe except for butchering or scavenging to sell the loot to vendors mostly, which is really sad as I absolutely love crafting stuff.
This is actually a good idea, when they're lasting for that long it shouldn't feel like a consumable anyway, and it will be good for economy

The way I look at it is, every game that has had crafting you make a whole bunch of a single item and end up having to sell if off. Most the time it does not sell or you vendor it.
With a timer on a talisman you will make 10 or so, use a few, and hold on to the rest so when the the cooldowns are up pop in another. This way all those extras you made will end up having some use.

Yup that what I do, I made me a bunch of +5 wounds talismans and equiped them all with 3 to spare, i'm just waiting that my 8h will wear off right now at lvl 11 +20 wounds is nothing to sneez at.
I agree that Talisman are money sinks but they have a great potential, and when the AH will start to get fuller it will be even easier to lvl it up.

What he said, its a good tool they've added, and a way to reward those who really invest time in it. We can make permanents, which are very powerful, but players will have to pay a lot for them as they are rare. If you aren't crafting, then at end game money won't be an issue as other than flights you won't have much to invest it in. It gets the economy going.
