Ok, I got my scavenging skill to 50 no probs, very easy, but I seem to have stopped getting skill ups. Am I missing something? Do I have to get back to a trainer and again? Oh, also...what do I get for being higher in level, for example, will I start to get better drops? And whats the level cap on it? Thanks in advance guys. :)

I read somewhere that the scavenging skill goes up based on something to do with the difference between your level, and your target's level. ie if you're rank 11, scavenging a rank 5 corpse, you'll likely get no skill up, but if you're rank 11 scavenging a rank 38 corpse, you most likely will get a skill up.
Helpful? I think that skill level 50 is just a soft cap till your character rank goes up.

I'm going to go out on a limb (This is purely from observation in beta, and a bit of guesswork)
But I'd say:
Scavenging 1-50 = Tier 1 = Rank 1 - 11 mobs
Scavenging 51 - 100 = Tier 2 = Rank 12 - 21 mobs
Scavenging 101 - 150 = Tier 3 = Rank 22 - 31 mobs
Scavenging 151 - 200 = Tier 4 = Rank 31+ mobs
Now, this is built on a few assumptions
- Skill goes to 200
- Skill is related to monster rank, not difference between monsters rank and yours
Anyone in tier 2 can prove this for me (Or you guys can wait a couple of hours so I can do it :P)

I moved into tier 2 (Or more accurately, the top of tier 1) and was proven right. Scavenging went to 51+ and Apoth 50+ drops started.

My only question is what is the point of gaining skill? I was scavenging level 22 mobs right off the mark because that is when I picked up the trade. I gained skill very fast scavenging at those levels but it did not seem to make a difference with what is looted.

seems to be on the spot.
I'm rank 18 stuck at 100 ~ rank 20. So rank 21+mobs should skill for me.

I had this same question too. Does increased skill improve the scavenged item? I dont think I have ever failed a scavenge attempt.

Seem's were all stuck at the same spot..
Is it possible we need to go back to the trainer or somewhere to strengthen our abilities? I'm trying to figure this out too.

scavenge some mobs that are higher than your level, and you will gain points.
I'm at scavenging 160ish at level 28.
I'm trying to cap scavenging early, because it seems like it will be extremely hard to raise at 40 since the mobs will mostly be 40 as well.
I don't understand the confusion about it. As everything else in this game, scavenging advances through tiers. If you had scavenging since tier 1, there is no chance whatsoever of not being high enough level to scavenge in tier 2. Same goes for the rest of the tiers. It is actually possible to raise the skill to 'tier cap' during one or two PQs. Can't be any easier really.

Not sure that's right. My scavenger is level 17. I don't get skill ups on mobs that are level 12. In fact, I stopped getting skill ups on anything that's even or below - I think my scavenging skill is currently 62-70. I did, however, get a skill up on a mob that was 21 today.

I think there is a cap for each level gained, and not solely tied to the teir you are in.
I'm 32 in tier 4 and I am unable to gain anymore points even when killing level 37-38 mobs solo.
As soon as I level, I noticed the gains start coming again.
I'm sure this was put in place to prevent people from having scavenger alts. What would be stopping you from joining a level 40 group with a level 12 alt, let the 40's kill the mobs, and scavenge all the corpses straight to 200?

I'm at scavenging 180something and get skill ups from mobs that are even or higher level than I am. At lvl 22, I had to scavenge lvl 22 or higher mobs for skill-up. Same at 23 and 24.
Not sure how that fits into the tables and such, but I'm not killing lvl 30+ mobs, just mobs equal or high level than I am.

I'll say this much. I didn't even start scavenging until I was about rank 32, and I'm not 38, and at 190ish scavenge. I recall, after training it, that it rasied with every single mob for the longest time. Granted, I was/am fighting in tier 4. It hasn't raised recently, that I know of. I'm probably sitting at 194 or so. My problem is, now I want to train apoth, which is at 54 now I think. Does that basically mean I have to go back down to t2 and scavenge a bunch of corpses for materials around lvl 50 apoth?
