View Full Version : Should they be called Marauders?

I feel (as a Chaos TT player) that "Marauder" as a name for the class seems a bit to generic. Marauders are the cannon fodder of the Chaos army, but these guy's seem to be quite special (to say the least).

The Orc "Choppa" isn't exactly a regular Orc Boy, so the "Marauder" shouldn't be just a regular Marauder.

The "choppa" class in itself is generic. It is a basic orc lad with a choppa. So they gave it a special name. The marauder is unique as a class, as it is mutation-filled and sparkly...so it doesn't need the "special" name.

Plus, to those not initiated into WH lore, Marauder is a pretty cool name.

I have to agree. Marauders has always been the weak core of the Chaos army. Would rather like a more special name.

Well you have to take it in context really. They aren't WEAK. They are the weakEST of course, but then again to say they are only human, and nekkid humans with fairly crude weaponry, they are pretty strong!

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, WROOOOOOOONG!

You need to read the description of the Choppa over again. It describes him as being more 'bloodthirsty', and more 'prone to berserk furies' than an average orc. He's a MADBOY, a Feral Ork unit who is, basically, thrice as insane as your average ork. The Choppa is that too, thrice as insane is your average orc.

Also, the name Madboy woulda been much better than 'Choppa'.

Also, in the sprue for TT mauraders, they come special mutated bits and peices, so yes, this is a generic maurader.

HOWEVER, they are making iconic classes, and although cannon fodder ain't that iconic, the effects of living in Norsca are.

The Maurader playable class represents the people of Warhammer who, due to living in a magic infested world, become mutants. It represents the randomness, the power, and the insanity of the energies of Chaos. THis is why the Maurader is iconic as a class.

Thankfully TT stats wont carry over into WAR.

My ones didn't. (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99120201003&orignav=13)

I would say that WAR Marauders are more akin to the Flayerkin from Storm of Chaos, which had higher Strength and the Killing Blow special rule (i.e. more DPS ;) )

I like the name Marauder and I find them more effective just than cannon fodder. Ofcourse they don't got the best armour but I have not played with them much in my owne army. (got mostly warriors and knights.) But I have tried marauders and I think this name is really fitting and I would see it wrong to change it.

Ironbreaker is generic, so is Black Orc, Goblin Shaman, Warrior Priest. Personally I don't give a damn about the name of a class, I care more about how fun the class is going to be to play.

Indeed. They should be called The Ultimate Champions of Doom or Sons of the Burning Eye of The Sargeras. Or maybe even The Merry Men of Slaanesh, Not , Just Merry!

Seriously, what's wrong with Chaos Marauder?

Jerrus

All the other Classes represent Elite units or Heroes of the TT game, but Marauders are the regular "Footmen" of Chaos.

There are no "Marauder Heroes", they are Chaos Warriors/Chosen/Champions. One can even say that they are Chaos Warriors in training ;)

Well, if you don't like being cannon fodder don't play a Chaos Marauder then.

Would you rather have a basic chosen, or a pumped up marauder? These aren't your everyday versions. They certainly have a heavy point investment in them with their special powers, making them practically elite units in all but name.

Well, this is how it goes:

1. Marauder
2. Chaos Warrior
3. Chosen
4. Aspiring Champion, Exalted Champion, Chaos Sorcerer
5. Chaos Lord
6. Slowly turning into daemon
7. High ranked daemon
8. Daemon prince

Flayerkin are in too as NPCs. :)

Actually no, those are all the elites and heroes of their respctive armies, so, no, they aren't generic cannon fodder, they are special soldiers.

Hm technically after a long time serving a dark God the marauders might become ranked as champions I belive.

And I don't find the marauders as weak, yes they might be fodder but they are effective what I have seen.

They should be named "Captain Crab Claws" they should yell "pincher attack!" too. Best idea for a class ever!

Aren't Chosen above Aspiring? I thought they were second only to Exalted...

We maraud.
We get around, y'know? Pinchin' people and levelin' cities with our claws of damnation.

Call me whatever you want, but when my arm turns into a giant claw and rips your arm off I don't think you'll be calling me much of anything other than a SOB.

I'm with Pen on this one, no ones gonna be saying "Oh **** here comes a Marauder", there going to be screaming at the top of the lungs whilst foolishly attempting to flee from the mighty crab claws of doom.

I'm pretty sure Chosen is the step up from plain Chaos Warrior.

Not that there's really anything "plain" about your regular Chaos Warrior :D

Well, aside from the claw of doom, which i fear already *makes note to buy big gloves* aren't these Marauder blokes just glorified cultists? Give some Chaos munchie a stick and he'll maraud your grandmother for the sheer dirty of it.

Krulltak
03-07-2007, 06:02 PM
Actually they are glorified, um, mauraders. http://uk.games-workshop.com/hordesofchaos/miniature-gallery/18/ all they did was take a barbarian and fill him with dangerous chaos energy.

Meh , I think some people have to realize that not everyone wants to be a specialised uber elite killing tank of chaotic doom. I kinda like the squishies and Marauders are pretty iconic and cool.

Not all of them suck , It's a generic but also wide-reaching term. Anything could be classed as a marauder which goes about with a bare chest and furs really :p

Thing is, though, with Magi and Chosen and Imperial Battlemages and(most likely) even bloody HIGH MAGES running around, some puny Marauder, the rank-and-file cannon-fodder of any mortal Chaos host would be reduced to a mewling mass of limbs, depending on how spawnified he was.
The favoured of the Chaos Gods get Chaos Armour and become Warriors. They don't remain marauders.

Baron Khaine

Well once again I have to point you not at the fluff, but at what we have been shown of the Marauders as they are in game. They are mutated, they are channeling the power of Tzeentch through them. Not everything in this game can be like the fluff, nor would I want it to be. There called Marauder's, they kick , there gonna rock no matter what there called.

It's just a class name, I don't understand all this obsessing over it. In game people aren't going to see the word MARAUDER plastered above your head. I doubt that you will ever be denied entry to a guild just because you chose a class that doesn't reflect its fluff counterpoint. Just because Mythic chose the term Marauder to name this class instead of Marauder of Crab Claw Tzeentchy Doomness does not make it any less of a killing machine.

It's just a class name, the only time we will be seeing it is in Character Creation and when we are talking about it on forums, just like these.

Can we please just stop obsessing over this now and go back to thinking of cool things that the Marauder can do?

I'd just compare this to the Black orc class , Now Black orcs AREN'T a type of soldier They are a sub-race of orcs , a more powerful type of orc created by the chaos dwarfs with magic etc.

The class is labeled incorrectly as a Black orc could be anything really, dosn't mean it's not a cool name and very iconic.

Now that really made me think about the Maurauder's epic song when charging into battle.

Also, who cares what there names are, Marauder is still a cool name. Even if they happen to be a Core Unit in the table top. They still are awesome mutating vikings.

Reminds me of Sony's interpretation of Japanese History.
