As we will get to later, a key part of the end-game involves capital cities. This
creates a problem when you consider that Chaos doesn't build cities. Barnett addressed
this with a fitting, if funny, solution. Chaos did build a city. They're chaotic and as such,
every eventuality comes to pass. As such, the Inevitable City was born. We didn't get to
see it, but their esteemed Creative Director did tell us a tale of how it may or may not
include (he may have been kidding, I couldn't tell) a stairwell that never ends, which a
poor artist has been texturing for three months. I certainly hope he's kidding, if only for
the health of that artist, but one never knows.

A part of The Armies of Chaos @WarCry (http://war.warcry.com/content/previews/press_event/3)

I think this is the first information about the Capital City of Chaos. It let us a lot of free
space to speculat about it at the moment.

What's the name of the Capital City of Chaos?
Nordic name or a bit more into demonic style?

What will it look like?
Typical nordic style, like Midgard in DAoC with signs, runes a/o statues of Tzeentch?
( House I (http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/zoneOverviews/Norsca/images/norsca_01.jpg) / Monolithe I (http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/zoneOverviews/Norsca/images/norsca_03.jpg) )

What kind of leadership will be within the City?
Ruled by the a Chieftain of a Tribe, by a Champion of Tzeentch or by Tchar’zanek himself?

So, what do you think about the Capital City of Chaos?

Well, it says right in your quote that it's called the Inevitable City. We actually allready knew this from carefull study of the map video from last months newsletter.

As for style? The city is in the chaos wastes somewhere and it needs to be a big city to count as the chaos capitol. So I'd say it's very "chaosy". Mideaval stonework with glowing runes, twisted designs and general crazyness.

And I'd be surprised if it wasn't lead by Tchar’zanek.

You mean this video (http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/podcast/files/WAR-pp_2006-11_Atlas.html) of the November Newsletter 2006?

I have seen it too and you could see the post with the Capital City of Chaos and the name
(the Inevitable City), but i really thought this is just placeholder of the name and not the
final name of the Capital. I would guessed more into "Norsca" style, like you see on this
map (http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/zoneOverviews/Norsca/images/Norscamap.jpg). (Thorshafen or Gotland).

The inveitable city is an actual city in the lore. It is just right under the polar gate. I wish I could find that thingy that told you all about it, but it don't seem to be there anymore.

To go there would send you insane. The look of it is a mockery of everyone else's archutercture. You would be lost forever as soon as you entered for it would constatly change, and one street would suddenly lead to a different location than before.

Daemons walk the streets and growl at those who enter, giving them warnings. Followers of the Dark Gods with sacred missions come to this city to complete their works.

Pure.Unadulterated.Awesome.

So no, it won't look like Norsca, it will look like the most chaotic place you've ever seen. Hopfully, it won't drive the actual players insane when they go in it, but it should, consider the insanity and corruption inside of that which is inveitable.

(snippet from Realms of Chaos)

The Inevitable City

The City was built of dark madness, and it stretched across the land to fill me with dread, for the path i trod would bring me to its portal. The City stones had been quarried from the night and in all their details and dressings they celebrated wickedness. No rain could wash the dust of evil from that place and no wind could drive out its corrupt air. Insanity had served as architect, engineer and master to the City's masons, and had guided all their levels and plumblines.

I turned my steps toward the far horizon, and still the City was before me. Once more I turned, and again, and yet another turning. With each freshly chosen course I drew nearer to the City gates, and its towers and walls loomed higher. The fateful gateways was the end of every road, and despair gnawed at my heart.

As I paused to seek a new escape, I saw that I was not alone on the inevitable, hideous path. Between myself and the City stood a man, his head bent and his eyes downcast, lost in some deep contemplation. As I watched,
he turned towards the City. His strides were firm, but he came no closer to the gate, and I watched as he passed me by, and went further from the gates until he vanished in the distant mists.

Thus was it possible to avoid the City and its brooding darkness, and I resolved to march, against all reason, to the City. And when i did so, the City grew no closer, but was soon lost to my sight...

Hopefully it will have incredibly twisted architecture and eyeballs and stuff poking out of things. With mouths and tentacles on buildings, and twisted faces that scream out of the side of walls.

It should reek of chaos in every aspect.

Anything similar to what happened to Praag after it fell will make me more than happy.

Could you imagine some Noob thinking the never ending staircase goes somewhere.

"hey guys where does this go?"

"hehe shush don't tell him"

"oh uh it goes to the armorer... ya"

"oh awesome!"
Hours later

"hey guys that didnt go anywhere and i think i have carpal tunnel from holding down the forward key"

Having a never-ending staircase would be great. Brings flashbacks of the staircase in Super Mario 64. I tried running up that thing I don't know how many times. Sometimes for 5+ minutes. Ah, youth..

I can see the capital having two names. for the order side and orcs and dark elves it will have a Nordic name, but for chaos players it will have either a daemonic or a name in the dark tongue and the streets will change course making it easy to get lost but ensuring theres not much chance you'll leave a building and traverse the same path you entered by

They should tone down the chaotic ness so that it's doing it's warp thing but you will atleast NOT get lost after your 50th visit. like streets will randomly change with certain pathways and those pathways alone so you can memorize it and the city won't be a nigh impossible labrynth that everyone would avoid.

Of course. No one is going to make a city that surpasses the laws of physics and is impossible to navigate, at least not in a video game.

It is the Inevitable City. It has been given every name, all of which have yet to be imagined, all of which have been forgotten.

Any name you choose to give it will be correct.

Although i'm hoping for one of those weird stair hallways where you walk through a door and your in the exact same room cept upside down, could be implemented through going through a door from the endless stairs if it's at all possible to implement that one feature alone let alone this one.

It's some invaded city, there is no mortal who dares to go as far, as the the heart of Chaos

So I doubt it's a real Chaos city, just a frontier

Chilltouch

No. It's the closest thing Tzeentch has to his own realm in the Warhammer World. It's the city that is everywhere but nowhere. It's the city of every name yet none. It's an ever-changing paradox that cares nothing about physics or reality. It probably has a sentience of its own.

Really great Post, Chill! This is what the Capital City of Chaos should be!

Thank you. Although, obviously, the Inevitable City has to be bound to a certain area rather than just constantly shifting and changing its location. Otherwise the other faction babies would cry "IMBA!" when they try to find our capitol. ;)

I GOTZ AN IDEA!

Remember Phyco Mantis from Metal Gear Solid:D ? HE MADE YOUR SCREEN GO BLANK, and HE MESSED WITH YOUR CONTROLLER! I SAY ADD SOMTHING SIMILIAR TO THE INVEITABLE CITY AS A FORM OF DEFENSE!

Midnight's Soul

They should add that to Chaos players as well. Along with random mutations you get randomly switching buttons, but in return powerful attacks and more hp and the like. Makes playing them sort of like a guessing game. :D

Yeah, totally! And if you talk to Slaanesh, he should close the game and send you to a bunch of porn sites!

Don't forget those annoying penis enlargement ads too.

I want to see a terribly twisted city where the buildings are mutated and like spirit said, have faces or mouths that forever scream silently. Imagine how much it would suck if you could hear the screams, and it was the only thing you heard whenever you were in town to sell your vendor trash. I also want to see a lot of tall, thin, spiraling towers, spikes everywhere, and small floating rocks and islands like the ones near the chaos portal from the chaos screenshots recently released.

A face, a nose, or an eye on a wall that oozes custard from its mouth, nostril, or cries it . . . and a chaos merchant has set up shop there and sells the custard. And the custard makes bad puns. O.o
