Hello everyone,
I recently picked up the *Battle for skull pass* set to try out goblin and Dwarf forces to see what i liked. I am still at a crossroads however - can anyone give me some information on how they fair on the battlefield excpecially for a beginner.

feel free to input any other comments about your army and why it has success on the battlefield.

ALSO:
I have seen some pictures of people painting models with different brand paint other then the Citidel brand paint, what kind of alternative paint works well? I would like to shave down the cost of this hobby as much as possible 'cuz it aint cheap.

Thanks a lot

Regards,
Vin

You can use ordinary acrylic paints (usually need to water it down), store-brand super glue, generic paintbrushes, model flock for train sets usually comes in a much bigger bag then the GW flock and cheaper too (same with static grass and trees/hedges). Shop around, visit hobby and crafting stores.

Sometimes comic book stores that carry magic the gathering cards and things like that will carry a product called "Warzone" which is like a cheaper version of WH40K. The associated products like paint and such is usually cheaper (I've found) for Warzone but of a lower quality.

Nowadays if I want something from GW, I usually buy it from a few people on eBay. Generally cheaper if you go to the right people and exactly the same product but you do miss out on the "shop at GW" experience.

I have found that, at least for me, both armies are quite fun to paint but...

On the battlefield: They are like dark and white (or even better: fun and boring). I think most experienced players like the Greenskins more. Once (in the not so distant past) I gave the Dwarfs a chance (again) just because I love to paint them, their lore and general look on the battlefield. But compared to many (every) other races they are not varied and I got pretty quickly bored of them.

The Greenskins on the other hand are very varied and I personally have never fought a boring battle vrs. the hordes of Gork and Mork. I have several friends which play orcs & goblins and each of their armies and tactics vary quite significantly.

But ofcourse this is only my opinion and some other people may have a completely different take on it. And one final note : ofcourse nothing beats playing the hordes of disease carrying Skaven and their malignant machines.
