View Full Version : 2 handed weapons
will ironbreakers be able to use 2 handed weapons?
i did some research(i have never played the table top game becuse of the lak of money) and it looks like like ironbreakers just use a shield, and a one handed hammer/axe.
BUT i have seen some art/WAR concept art there a dwarf, that looks like a ironberakers, uses a 2handed weapon.
and look at this screen (http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/armiesofWAR/Dwarfs/Careers/images/Ironbreaker05.jpg)
and the dwarf on the top here (http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/armiesofWAR/Dwarfs/Dwarfs.php)
same dwarf two weapons
and anotherironbreaker (http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/screenshots/full/SS_aug2006_18.jpg), with a axe of whoe
so what you think? just some rest over form the start or are 2handers in?

I believe Ironbreakers are able to use two-handed axes, whereas the Hammerers take the two-handed hammers.
Yea it doesn't look like they're going to restrict everyone like that. But they will create reasons to keep Sword/Board as a tanker.
Gamespot reported that the Ironbreaker has an ability to charge into battle, knocking over an enemy, but only if they're wearing a shield. Who knows what other effective Shield Bashes will come out of wearing a board...
I'm not aware of the Ironbreaker having any weapon-restrictions. Hammers and axes, both one- and two-handed, will probably be usable by the Ironbreaker. Who knows, maybe they'll even be allowed to use swords? Not that any self-respecting dwarf would.
They probably won't be able to dual-wield, though.

Yeah, I doubt that Ironbreakers would be all that restricted in weaponry. They are top-notch Dwarf fighters and would be trained in it all. However, I do expect a lot of "sword'n'board" style play though.
My hope is that shields will add an element of stunning or close-combat crowd control (CCCC? :)) to make up for their lower melee damage output to the hammerer. PVP taunts should help, but if an Ironbreaker can easily stop casters or keep more vulnerable players near the front lines using stuns, they will become much more attractive targets and make our heavy army and shield all that more advantageous to our own side.

I think you will technically be able to wield a 2h weapon, but you'll lose access to a lot of abilities. Just like Hammerers that pick up a shield will find their DPS severely handicapped. As for 2h vs. Dual Wield, I think that will depend on the abilities your Hammerer employs. Are you going to rely on big damage or a higher attack rate.

I asked this question a couple months ago in the newsletter. They said that they would be able to equip great weapons, which I am assuming meant greataxes and 2h hammers.

In TT Ironbreakers can only wield 1-handed weapons with shields (Lords and Thanes in Gromril armour still get great weapons as an option, though), but there is nothing in the fluff to suggest that they can't use 2-handed weapons. Due to the nature of their battle role (damage sinks) most dwarf lords tend to arm them with shields, but there really is nothing stopping them from wielding great weapons should the need arise.
