View Full Version : Why all the complaints about timed talisman?
Here are a couple things to consider:
1. Most of your gear at lower levels will become obsolete before the talisman is gone.
2. At higher levels timed talisman will allow you to experiment with different stats before deciding on what works best as well as give you permanant flexibility with your final gear.
Timed talisman are great IMHO.

They don't bother me for both the reason you stated and by having timers on them they will run out(Duh!) and those people will then go back to get more. it give the profession a much longer life. Seeing as people won't max out thier talismans and never buy another one agian.

I don't know why I rather enjoy it. I think it makes the profession sustainable. You will alway need to make new talismans for yourself ( hopefully, unless they become permanent at higher levels).
I think timers are good, and will make the class much more needed.

The problems with timed talismans :
punishes downtime.
The fun thing about MMOs is all the stuff you can do and not all of it involves fighting. If you hang around a city crafting, doing non-combat quests and going into the AH, your talismans willl still be ticking away. Also applies when waiting for a group for a dungeon.
They're nothing more than buffs
Admittedly they can't be dispelled but they're still buffs and they only give very slight upgrades. They're also very weak compared to regular buffs
I don't care much about profit
Talisman making is as much about personal convinience than making easy gold. Having to keep replacing you own makes for a big money sink.
Talisman making is expensive
it costs a lot to level, you have to destroy stuff you could vendor and you have to buy lots of stuff from the AH.
slotted equiptment has lower stats than that with none
Whilst you can make equiptment better with talismans than stuff of the same level without, you have to use good talismans to do so. This means that if you don't have talismans in slots, ticking away, you've got inferior equiptment.

What the hell do you think Apothecary potions are?
Anyway, most people have problems because they expected Warcraft Enchanting. It's not. Deal with it.

While I understand the concept of timed talismans seems a little off-putting at first glance, discussion on its merits is purely academic at this point. We won't really know how the system pans out until a lot of people fill out Tier 3 and 4 where you will probably have gear long enough for talismans to actually run out.
I would like to point out that very rare (purple) talismans do not have a timer associated with them, which is something nobody seems to mention. That may or may not mean anything depending on how the profession turns out after everyone hits rank 40, but at the very least we can see that the possibility of having a stable piece of equipment exists. I say this because I think that the main issue people have with timers is the idea that they will hit rank 40 and continually have to replace talismans on their high level gear. I don't think that is going to be an issue.
Having said that, I'm not a huge fan of the current implementation. I can appreciate a challenging profession, but I also appreciate a logical approach as well. The current state of the talisman profession doesn't complement your leveling, rather it encourages you to backtrack. I made the mistake of waiting until Tier 2 to pick up a profession, now I'm faced with farming Tier 1 excessively, even with all of the salvage that I've saved from leveling.
My main concern is that crafting potions is something anyone can start doing right away without requiring anything but some pocket change and a merchant. I think the entry point into both crafting professions should be equally as easy and intuitive. If you want to make talisman crafting more difficult than the apothecary profession, so be it, but give people an easier start so they have a chance to like the craft before they drop it.
I loved alchemy in Morrowind, so the draw of apothecary was strong for me. I do think that talismans will be just as useful and will turn out to be a great profession, given the chance for some polish. I'll stick it out.

There's already a craft that heavily involves buffs, what's the point of making Talisman making another one?

Would it really be that overpowered for that +2 strength talisman to be permanent?

Dont know if this has been said before but it looks like only the white talismans have a time.
I made a green one today with no timer on it, so calm down there are some permanent ones.

I've had blue ones with timers, granted it was 5 days which is a very long time in /played time but still, I'm calling BS on the green permanent talisman.

Because one are augment your gear
the other augments your stomach.

Because it's very frustrating to invest so much time and money into something temporary. Since people will always be upgrading gear throughout the game, there will always be a market for Talismans no matter how long they last... Just look at other games that have enhancement sockets on gear.

I agree with you. I think it is not so bad. Just leveling it is such a pain.
