View Full Version : So, the disc is basically a daemonic familiar (FRPG rules)?

Was reading the section on daemonic familiars in the Tome of Corruption when it struck me that the disc is really a daemonic familiar. Sure, obvious, some of you might say, I just never consciously made the connection to the word 'familiar' before. :)

The daemonic familiars in the FRPG rules have some abilities though, like the spell absorbtion, where they can store a spell directed at the caster for a variable amount of time, and then cast it back at whoever the caster sees fit. That would be a neato abilty to have for the disc as well, when Pyrobob casts his Fireball of Dhoom at a Magus, only to have it absorbed and then returned on his friends.

Wow that sounds awfully cool. I would love to see tons of curve balls like that in this game. Maybe some spell bending such as a damage absorbing spell that will be spread into an aoe to all your party members if you're a cloth wearer so you dont take all the damage. Etc. Then again maybe noone will want you in there group of you could manipulate spells on them. hehe But your idea does sound great!

Haha, so the magus might be an anti-caster as well. Might as well bend over now, bright wizards.

No, they are independent demons, like every other demon

Uhm, not sure what yer trying to say here... not every daemon is independent in Warhammer. There most certainly is a thing called daemonic familiars in the FRPG rules.

But the disc (as far as I understand) is not a familiar, it's a demon, that preys for other demons and stuff
But also my knowledge of familiars and what they are, is limited :D

Well, from what I can read in the rulebooks, the discs are daemons that Tzeentch gives to favoured followers as a reward. In the books, they are barely under the control of the master, and might at any time go back into the Chaos realm with the master on its back, but in WAR they are fully under the control of the master, so there's a little deviation there.

There is a section on daemonic familiars in the Tome of Corruption (FRPG), with rules and all, and that's where I made the connection. Not very profound I know, it was just something that struck me all of a sudden.

"Aegis of Yellow Flame
Action Points: 130
Description: For the next 6s magical attacks against you do 'almost no' damage but instead restore some AP/HP"

"Befuddling Green Fire
Action Points: 130
Range: 0-100 ft
Description: Damages target and Disoreients them for 6s, increasing buildup times on abilities by 1 second"

Although i kinda hope they rename the latter to "Dim Wizard" ;)
