Slow down/you move too fast/got to make the campaign last!

Posted 11-18-2009 at 09:23 AM by stjobe (Green Powa)

Mythic's stated policy over the last few patches has been to make the city siege "more accessible". I'm thinking that while this is a great idea in theory, it's bad for the game in the long run.

As it is at the moment, the T4 campaign moves at a blistering pace, city siege following just hours after the last one ended. Zones, keeps and BOs fall in rapid succession and are seldom fought over in any worthwhile detail.

I think this is because
* Holding keeps and BOs doesn't give any substantial or meaningful benefit to the side holding them - they're just there to amass VPs for the zone flip.
* The removal of forts also meant that there's no way for an underpopulated realm to make a last stand.

A side effect of keeps/BOs being worthless as anything other than zone-flip VPs is that no-one cares if a keep or BO is lost, and that in turn means that realm pride is more or less non-existant.

Once, Mythic had the idea that City sieges should be epic events that a whole realm had to fight to get to, that meant something and that was the crowning achievement of a maybe week- or month-long struggle for dominance with the opposing faction.

Look at where we are today: Several city sieges by each side every day, day in day out. Not exactly epic or really an achievement, is it?

People are bored with taking BOs and keeps already when they get to T4, and within a few weeks or so are bored with city sieges too. It's a sad state the campaign is in.

So, what can be done to make it better? Well, I think that we need to get back to the rare city siege, and the means of doing that is to focus on keeps and BOs. They need to mean something, people should get ticked off when your side loses a BO or a keep, and want to get it back, preferably right away!

So I suggest making keeps and BOs a lot harder to take, and also that they be given a tangible, substantial bonus to the realm that's controlling them. This is the only way to get people to actually bother defending them and in the end making them meaningful to the campaign.

I'd love it if I got to the city siege after fighting tooth and nail for territory with Order every night, slowly inching towards Altdorf, gaining ground some nights, losing some other nights. Then it would feel like the city siege actually meant something.

Right now the city is little more than loot-farming, and boring loot-farming at that.

Slow the campaign down and make it mean something!

1050 strength on WP

Posted 11-12-2009 at 06:25 PM by niikuu (Melee Warrior Priest)

Well gotta say, capping strength(buffed) was kind of my goal for some time in warhammer. Now that I did it I'll share the info, it's so much worth it. Another thing is the weapon skill, tried it at 460 was great against tanks and any heavier armor but -12% crit from renown is just too much of a loss when it comes to squishies hunting.

About recent patches in general: the channeling changes obviously screwed up our reliable DA heal up what makes full Wrath spec even more worthless when it comes to survivability while Grace tree shines again, Wounds buff finally found its use cause there are +weapon skill liniments, +150% from DS tactic also becomes a reliable source of heals and huge as for melee numbers on sc charts.
What's our biggest problem about being useful as melee healers is lack of an armor debuff skill and the fact people stack more and more armor, toughness talismans and an armor pot is on 24/7.

Decently geared WP on rr70+ is quite effective but to be honest, I'm just bored, PvP since Dec 2008 cause all PvE content is only for salvation healbot which isnt any fun for me, it's like a different class not just spec. Monotony isnt healthy.

Thought I'm gonna post in here, didnt do that for a long time an update on general state of melee wp affairs seemed like a good thing to do.

I am a respeccing - a - holic

Posted 10-31-2009 at 12:55 AM by Grolyn

So I can't help but respec my character over and over, I have a witch hunter, and I volley from wanting to go with the easy Burn away lies, pistol whip, and repel blasphemy with Riposte, to wanting to try other things so

A) i'm not so cookie cutter; which really doesn't bother me because with only so many viable options and the amount of people playing being original isn't very probably.

B) I want to throw off destro on my server if they expect the majority of Hunters to zig I'm sure being a zagger would net me a few kills.

But the question still remains can I be different and just as effective? Well this is my hunt, the thing is though I respect a lot I'm not a big situational speccer, I other words I don't duel with one spec, then Raid with another, then pvp with another. I try to pick what's good for killing the toughest as s holes on my server and that usually means I tear up monsters and duels pretty well.

Hunters any thoughts?

Character Customizatoin

Posted 10-29-2009 at 06:52 PM by Grolyn

So I like WAR it's official I get no more lag I get murdered by Witch elfs, but I do a fair amount of murdering myself, the only problem I have is my RP side isn't getting it's fix.

I'm a story writer, and I'm an artist, to put it mildly my character's mean a great deal to me, for instance on oblivion I spent the first hour and a half on character customization. The thing is when I read the literature on Witch Hunters, and started paying attention to the warhammer lore I realized the gritty nature and atmosphere was for me, there is so much they could do with it still.

I get that this game had some critical issues with balancing and lag that needed to be fixed before it could even be considered playable, and I am glad that Mythic has done what they have done, I think this game has come a long way.

So believe me when I say that I understand if this request isn't at the top of the all mighty 'to do' list, but when seeing games like Aion with their character customization tools one can't help but dream of the possibilities;

like being able to make my Real life beard, or different body weights, and heights. I think with the games lore and world would benefit with unique faces and looks, now i'm not saying I want to see purple humans, green mohawks, or something to that nature (unless it fits) but even without all that, and in keeping with this games particular art style I believe there is still almost limitless options.

With the news of the Sit, walk emotes being implemented one can't help but get excited about WAR fixing enough game bugs to have enough resources to touch up and add a few cherries.

I'm sure some could say "Hey, just play Aion if you like this stuff this is WAR fight and shut up!"

Well and that's the thing Aion's PvP doesn't excite me, Aion's world and feel doesn't do so much for me. Warhammer does what it does well in my estimation, where is the rule that they can't add the extra gravy that would make this game more immersive?

First and foremost the game should be made playable, and major game ruining bugs should be addressed but in the future I hope they will overhaul the beginning character customization screen so I can have the accident prone Witch hunter bad of my dreams, or the slightly chubby archmage with a pechant for ginger snaps.

In any case I like war and I look forward to them moving things forward. (all mistakes that I'm too lazy to correct at this time will be like a game for you readers find them all then keep them a secret)

Return of the Jedi

Posted 10-29-2009 at 04:47 PM by Sir Robin (Bravely Running Away)

Okay, maybe not the Jedi but decked out in all of T2's RvR Influence Rewards my Runepriest looks like Obi-wan Kenobi. Well a shorter and drunker versions of him but a version nonetheless. Whatever the details of the case may be the fact remains that I have finally returned to WAR.

The financial crisis slash ambush I went through is not over but I am adjusting to my new lifestyle of poverty. Yep, I'm poor and that is probably the way I will stay. However, I think I can afford a measly $15 a month subscription once more.

My return to WAR finds it changed for the better in many ways but most of its flaws, for me at least, remain. Still I like WAR better than any other mumorpuger on the market so I still call it home.

I have returned to a couple of the guilds I once belonged too and have begun ranking my newer toons again. I find that I enjoy the change between my two new mains. Having a Runepriest and Choppa makes a dramatic difference in styles and duties that make them a very fresh switch whenever I'm in the mood too.

Whether or not these new toons will experience the same burnout my Black Orc did in Tier 4 remains to be seen. Yet I am enjoying the ride so far... again.

WAAAGH!!! KAZAKA!!!
