Fail... I mean Funcom is a listed company. In the recent quarterly report they commented that the game had about 400k active subs around mid-August. Some speculation came right after that the date was about a week before many subs are renewed, indication a number higher than it is currently. So, if you want to see it, go to their site and check under financial statements.

AoC didn't launch to even close to 1 million subs. They shipped about 750k to retailers. I'd be surprised if half that number sold.

I'd say for WAR 500-750k the first month, then over a million by the end of the year.

Also, a lot of you are forgetting about Asia.

One of the biggest reasons WoW hit the 11 million sub mark this year is Asia. Would it have at least 1-2 million subs in America alone without Asia? Of course.

Warhammer Online will also be shipping to Asia, EA confirmed this awhile ago - this could mean huge numbers for WAR.

Only time will tell.

Wish granted.

More than Everquest (at peak) and less than WoW.

Impressive....

Statements like this make me think that this game will bring back the fun of MMOs which existed before WoW.

LOL Good call Mark, I was one of those EQ nerds at peak.

I am just curious how many of those subs are going to be unique accounts compared to the same person having 2 - 6 accounts. I know I plan on having 2 accouts at minimum.

The question now has to be asked, how many subs did EQ have at peak?

Other than multi-boxing, whats the point of multiple accounts?

I estimate... 500k at launch, 750k by end of the year, 1M+ by May of '09.

AOC has proven us people are looking for something that will beat WoW , a change after those boring grind years.

AOC was too buggy so people didnt stay with it, WAR will hopefully do better.

If that person has more than one account it is paying and maintaining all those accounts. It's almost impossible or at least impractical to distinguish between costumers with more than one active account and costumers with only one.

Oh, and your estimates are a bit wide Mark. Between some hundred thousand and 10 millions? Don't you have a more precise estimate?

Other question: how many active subs would the game need to regain the investment made on it by EA?
Is it the EQ numbers at peak enough?

Interesting to see how people throw "authoritative" numbers around willy nilly in this thread. Try a look here (can't speak for the accuracy of their data, but they look reasonable for the games I am familiar with - i.e. played first-hand):

http://mmogdata.voig.com/

Also note that you cannot compare numbers in non-sub games to sub games, because I am probably one of the Guildwars data points despite playing it for a mere few hours (I thought it sucked that hard, yes).

Cheers,
Lin
