You are right, however, my rig is not bad enough to go down to 0 FPS in a fight (okay, that was a rather large keep siege, 78 people and Keep lord in the same room, everyone blowing away). Btw, my specs are Asus P5B, Core2Duo E6400, 3gigs of DDR2 800, 8800 GTS 640MB. It shouldn't suffer that much imho, but it does.

Granted, I do have a really good computer but if you want good performance you need a good computer regardless, Mythic can't really flick a magic switch for you to increase your FPS, unless they start making the game look worse than it already does.
ehm, you do realize that code optimization can make quite a difference right? Not every pc is the same and thats the problem with making pc games, you have to account for 100000 different variables. Thus I could have an awesome pc, but if the code written in the game is "bad" for my pc it will still run like crap.

Gracias, love the update, jefe ;p And kinda good you will be bringing them down in 2-3 days and not today. I mean, I can play today and I have to study for my History exams on Monday...

But when you say "later" you mean like Friday or Saturday/Sunday? Hope it's Friday, then a lot of people will be able to enjoy new buffs/nerfs.

It's not people with weak computers. 8800 Ultra, 2.4 ghz dual core and 3gb ram. I run at about 12 FPS in large fights. Switching between the different performance settings does NOTHING. That is the problem. Nothing you do moves your FPS up or down any.

It seems to be something with the 8800 cards, as almost all people who report bad FPS use them. All ATI users seem to have almost no issues.

James, could you at least please hint at the contents of the patch? Just to ease the tension.

Ok then, can you give me 2 examples of some "Code optimization" that might allow for higher frames per second?

Well I'm running with 2 8800GT's and my performance is excellent.

Sigh, more delay. All this really does is set the bar even higher for Mythic. Considering all the changes the community feels are neccessary, coupled with the overwhelming destruction domination on near every server, a lot of pressure is on them to make a very important patch (as all first patches are).

I suppose, understanding the above delaying it a few days is fine, considering how important it is, but doesn't change the fact the bar is EXTREMELY high and a lot of sweeping changes aren't only expected, but I feel needed for the game to remain as healthy as it is.

Hey all,

Let me just caution against expecting a "miracle patch" the game is in a great state but we know continued work is needed to address the issues some are facing.

This is the first of a line of updates that should address many of the concerns some players have.

Our first really "major" patch isn't for a while, you'll start seeing information and updates on what that will contain as we get closer to its release. For now we intend to continue addressing what we can as we work on nailing down as many remaining problems as possible.

Thanks all

You're never programmed before, have you?

Besides, we couldn't give specific examples without seeing WAR's code. Graphics code has to make specific calls to your graphics card, and if all those calls are made with an ATI card's specifications and limitations in mind the CPU has to do extra work to accomodate any card with a different hierarchy (or drop the call entirely and do the work itself, rendering the graphics card utterly useless, as may have happened in the case of WAR because the GPU is often only being utilised to 40% of it's capacity).

1) Intelligent precaching algorithms
2) better optimisation of frequently used arithmatic calculations (ie: doing the same mathematical sum in a different arrangement that does it in less CPU or GPU time)
3) more intelligent rendering optimisations such as better calculation of lighting conditions, grass wind interaction, etc.

You clearly have no idea how programming works. Stick to doing supermarket cash register stuff

edit: one example relevant to WAR that has been proven is the update rate of buff/debuff tags on the character bars becoming a function of how many are on screen. The buffthrottle UI mod does this or similar to this, and causes performance increases. That could possibly be improved on even more in the native engine.
